Vf Dad's Army Programme.Pub 16 May 2016 1 £2 Welcome Welcome to our Spring 2016 Producon of Dad’s Army. I think we can guarantee you a laugh a minute as we present three of the original TV episodes ‐ “Deadly Aachment”, “Mum’s Army” and “The Godiva Affair”. We’re delighted to have a few new faces on stage and we’re sure you’ll give them a warm welcome. As you will know we are in the early stages of our “Big Project” which will see the theatre upgraded and improved. We will be addressing issues of accessibility, health and safety and extending use of the theatre within the community. As a first step we have been busy fundraising to help towards the costs associated with our Project. These costs include emergency repairs to the roof (which we have now completed) and detailed architect’s drawings. There is more informaon available in our “Big Project” leaflet and if you join our mailing/email list we’d be very happy to keep you informed about progress. We are also currently in the early stages of looking at Community Ownership which would see the building come into the ownership of The Barony Players (we current‐ ly lease the building from Falkirk Council). As you can imagine this ambious project will take some years to achieve and along the way we will need to raise considera‐ ble amounts of money. With the help of you our audience we’re confident we’ll get there. We have launched our new website and connue to use Social Media to extend our reach. Do keep an eye on our website and Facebook Page to hear about our acvies in‐ cluding fundraising events. Wishing you all a very happy Spring and Summer. Wendy Turner— The Chair of The Barony Players If you are interested in finding out more about ‘The Big Project’, please speak to www.baronyplayers.co.uk any one of our members or pick up one of our flyers in the coffee room. Thanks. 2 15 Director’s Note Wendy Turner—Director I have been involved with The Barony since 1997. I directed my first Barony play "The Steamie" in 2000 and "Dad's Army" will be my 18th. For some this is a walk down memory lane, for others its their first experience of this well‐loved classic comedy. I'm delight‐ ed to be working with such a talented and dedicated cast and crew. The Dad’s Army scripts we are presenng were wrien between 1968 and 1977 by David Perry and Jimmy Cro. During the rehearsal process we have found some of the references cast and atudes expressed to be very much “of their me”. There may be some phrases used that seem out of keeping with the way we speak today. There is certainly no offence intend‐ ed but we thought it best to let you know we have given this thought during rehearsals. Army” Remembering Avril McInnes Many of you will remember with affecon Avril McInnes who worked relessly for The Baro‐ ny Players for over twenty years. Sadly, Avril passed away in February. She is missed by all her “Dad’s Barony friends and it will be very strange not seeing her undertaking her role as Front of House Manager. Our thoughts are with her daughter and grand‐daughter. Visitors to the Hall, on a rather snowy Sunday afternoon, thought they had stepped back in time as they gazed on the fabulous scene of ladies and gentlemen in full court dress. Only the cameras of our intrepid film crew John and Margaret Morgan gave away the fact that this was a film set and they had not been transported in a time warp. With a full entourage of Director, Wardrobe, Wigs and Musical Director in attendance visitors to the Hall may have been forgiven for thinking that our Company members were a professional film crew. File compilations copyright Gordon Brodie & Christopher Leather Section 4 : Miscellaneous Files : Animals Whilst we all laugh at the antics of our heroes from Walmington-on-Sea as they prepared to defend their town against the might of the Nazi war machine poised across the Channel, let us not forget some of the supporting cast - the animals that featured in the DA Programmes. Some of the animals mentioned were never actually seen on the screen, but if they were mentioned then it is felt they should be included. It also covers those humans who tried to disguise themselves as animals. If, after studying this file, you can think of any of our furry friends that have been overlooked then please pass the details on. APES: During a radio news broadcast which the platoon are listening to, mention is made of a question being asked in the House about the fall in population of the apes of Gibraltar, but Private Walker denies any knowledge of this, although he may well know something about the pigeons mentioned in the previous question, which had disappeared from Trafalgar Square. BEAR: When the platoon had to stopover all night at what turned out to be an Army Dog Training School, Private Pike got soaked through a couple of mishaps. There was a bearskin rug, complete with head, which he put on to keep warm after removing his wet clothes. He gave some people quite a scare during the night when they woke up and saw a bear looking down at them.

  • Hex Based & Card Driven “England Invaded” Fun
HEX BASED & CARD DRIVEN “ENGLAND INVADED” FUN WARGAMES RULES. By the TSA design team Rudi Geudens – Willie Bogaerts – Johan Van Acker http://www.rudi-geudens.be http://www.tsoa.be 1 “THERE’S A WAR ON, YOU KNOW...” Hex based card driven fun Home Guard battles in miniature – version 1.0. INTRODUCTION. These rules were initially developed for being played on 10cm (4”) flat to flat hexagons as offered by Kallistra (http://www.kallistra.co.uk/) (when making use of 15/20/25/28mm models). When 1/285//300 models are used, we advice the hexes from the Heroscape game or similar. The author of these rules is in no way connected with these companies, other than the fact that he uses their product for this and other hex-based games. It is (of course) perfectly possible to use other hex-sizes or hex-systems, or replace each hex by a distance of 10cm measured on the table, but remember we chose the hexagonal grid to speed up the game and avoid measuring. BACKGROUND OF THE GAME. Like so many others, we have always terribly enjoyed (and still do) the BBC sitcom “Dad’s Army”, so it is not surprising we wanted to turn the little world of Walmington-on-Sea and surroundings into a wargame. But that’s rather easier said than done… A situation comedy (sitcom) is based on stereotype interaction between characters, whereby predictability is often the key word. Wargames are also based on a given situation, but predictability would kill the game. This was the key problem to be solved.

This was a very complex episode that delves into one of the shows most warmest, kindest, most whole hearted characters. We see how this frail individual has affected almost every single other character on the show, and how much he means to them. We Know Our Onions. The platoon are sent on a Home Guard proficiency test for the weekend. The platoon fail miserably the first two tests, though they are given half a star for persistence on the second test, having kept Captain Ramsay the man in charge of the tests up half the night. To get round this they buy some onions off Hodges and fire those instead. This impresses Ramsay so much he awards them the maximum twelve stars outright. Whilst the platoon are defeated horribly by the electrified fence; the aim was to spend fifteen minutes to discuss then half an hour to get over the fence — the platoon spend all day and are eventually stopped by Ramsay at midnight — they do show that, when the chips are down, they can get out of the toughest situations and show some great intuition. And, of course, being played by the legend that is Fulton Mackay is fantastic, a great casting choice.
