Marko Milosavljević Odbirateljstvo na spletnem mediju (študija primera Primorske novice) Magistrsko delo Ljubljana, 2013 Odbirateljstvo na spletnem mediju (študija primera Primorske novice) Nove tehnologije prinašajo novosti v načinu produkcije, distribucije ter recepcije novinarskih produktov in kot take nove izzive v procesu novinarskega sporočanja. V magistrski nalogi se na podlagi teorije in praktičnega primera osredotočamo na poseben del tega procesa, vlogo odbirateljev, ki odločajo, katere novice bodo prišle do občinstva. Na spletu namreč vlogo odbirateljev prevzemajo kar uporabniki sami, ki odločajo, katerim novicam bodo posvečali svojo pozornost. Za razliko od tega v klasičnih medijih, npr. tisku, še vedno velja klasična paradigma odbirateljev, vlogo katerih igrajo novinarji in uredniki. Kljub temu da splet omogoča množico različnih možnosti uporabe širjenja informacij, študija primera regionalnega dnevnega časnika Primorske novice in njegove spletne različice kaže konservativno prakso uporabe spletnih orodij, ki služijo zgolj kot podaljšek tiskani izdaji medija in ne kot možna samostojna oblika medija. Ključne besede: odbirateljstvo, spletni mediji, novičarske spletne strani, Primorske novice Gatekeeping on onlinemedia (case study Primorske novice) New technologies bring novelties in terms of production, distribution and perception of journalistic products which challenge the process of broadcasting. Based on a theory and practical example, the dissertation focuses on a phase of this process, i.e. the role of gatekeepers, who decide what news will be published. On the internet, the users themselves are gatekeepers deciding what news will get more of their attention. In contrast, the classical paradigm of gatekeepers is still used in the classic media, i.e. print media, and its role is performed by journalists and editors. Despite the fact that the internet enables numerous different options of how to spread information, the case study of the regional daily newspaper of Primorske novice and its webpage indicates a conservative practice regarding the use of web tools which serve solely as an extension to the printed edition, not as a possible independent form of media. Klasične, tradicionalne oblike novinarskega sporočanja pa se spreminjajo skupaj z njimi. S pojavom interneta se je preoblikovalo razmerje moči med novinarji in bralci (občinstvom). Bralci so pridobili na moči, medtem ko sta se ugled in moč novinarjev znižala. Prav tako se je vzpostavilo novo razmerje moči med medijskimi uporabniki in producenti ter profesionalnimi in amaterskimi novinarji (Deuze in Fortunati 2011, 164-6). Nov komunikacijski sistem namreč zajema spremembe na vseh področjih komuniciranja, tako na množičnem kot tudi organizacijskem, skupinskem, medosebnem in osebnem (Oblak in Petrič 2005, 23). Nove, boljše tehnologije pa ne prinašajo nujno boljšega, kakovostnejšega novinarstva (Dahlgren 2009, 151-2). Prej kot to v novinarsko delo vnašajo več (časovnega) pritiska in posledično bolj površno izdelane novinarske prispevke. Še več, na spletu je lahko navzoč katerikoli družbeni akter z dostopom do interneta (Oblak in Petrič 2005, 180). Kot razlagata Deuze in Fortunatijeva (2011, 164-6), bralci sploh niso več klasični bralci, saj so tudi sami pridobili dostop do orodij za poročanje. V novi razporeditvi moči so najmanj te obdržali prav novinarji, med katerimi je vse manj redno zaposlenih, vse pogostejša praksa pa so honorarno zaposleni poročevalci (prav tam, Deuze 2009, 83). Na drugi strani so bralci pridobili ne le možnost, da do novic dostopajo brezplačno, temveč tudi priložnost, da novice ustvarjajo sami. Iz uporabnikov so se prelevili v objavitelje (Deuze in Fortunati 2011, 269-70; Hermida 2011, 178). Novinarstvo kot poklic za demokratično družbo ni pomembno le zaradi novic, ki jih proizvaja, temveč tudi zaradi načina, kako jih proizvaja, torej pod kakšnimi pogoji, zakaj, znotraj katere institucionalne miselnosti in profesionalne identitete (Deuze 2009, 82). Profesionalno novinarstvo je denimo s svojim znanjem in veščinami postalo le eden od načinov pridobivanja, urejanja in objavljanja informacij. Forumi, blogi in socialna omrežja predstavljajo nove alternative tradicionalnim oblikam objavljanja novic (Deuze in Fortunati 2011, 168). Polje odbirateljstva na spletnih medijih je torej v veliki meri povezano s pojavom novih oblik medijskega komuniciranja, splošno krizo novinarskega poklica in novinarsko etiko. Novinar, ki nima izkušenj s spletom, razmišlja o zgodbah, novičarskih vrednotah, javnem servisu, oseba, ki ima s spletom mnogo izkušenj, pa o povezovanju, organizaciji, 6 gibanju znotraj nizov informacij ter komuniciranju med različnimi ljudmi (Oblak in Petrič 2005, 81). V magistrski nalogi se bomo osredotočili na model profesionalnega novinarskega poročanja na spletu, torej na medijska spletna mesta, za študijo primera pa izbrali regionalni medij Primorske novice. Pri tem bomo drugačne oblike objavljanja na spletu (bodisi iskalnike, imenike, komercialne ali korporativne spletne strani bodisi osebne spletne strani in bloge) (Oblak in Petrič 2005, 80) prepustili nadaljnjemu raziskovanju.

The article's goal is to present media representation of the new regime of the Slovenian borders, introduced in December 2007. Critical discourse analysis of news items, published by all major Slovenian media between the beginning of December 2007 and the end of January 2008, reveals that there was no single homogeneous representation of the border included by all the media. Instead, there are four discourses: discourse of borderlessness, discourse of the Iron Curtain, discourse of the Schengen fortress, and discourse of everyday life problems. All discourses are fragmented, neglecting political and social contexts, but only the last one, which appeared in the regional media only, critically represented the new regime on the Schengen border. The elite Slovenian media also have thoroughly changed the dominant representation of the Slovenian borders. What used to be "an Iron Curtain" was reconfigured into "borderlessness", and what used to be "borderlessness" was reconfigured into "a fortress" and "a problematic border". They also reproduced a clear division, with Europe/Europeans and Slovenia/Slovenians on one side and the region and people behind the southern Schengen border on the other.     Media Watch Journal, No. 28, May 2007, English Supplement (published by the Peace Institute, see also http://mediawatch.mirovni-institut.si) Primorske novice Newspaper – A Prey to Political and Economic Interests By Barbara Verdnik, former director of Primorske novice, a regional daily in Slovenia Last year’s events at the Primorske novice newspaper are an example or a prototype of a media takeover stemming from an amalgam of political and economic interests. Although the recipe is not a Mediterranean one, the ingredients and procedures are very similar to those in numerous other cases we have been witnessing in the ‘reshaping’ of the economy and controlling the media in the last couple of years: first the ownership structure of companies is rearranged, then Supervisory Board members are replaced, then Directors or Management Boards are dismissed, or they resign citing ‘personal reasons’ (this has been one of the most abused phrases of the recent period), and finally another cadre is appointed. The case of Primorske novice is even more prominent, firstly because the newspaper was in the midst of realizing its project of becoming a daily and had no significant financial reserves, but especially because of the unprofessional – one could even say careless – attitude of the owners. By interfering in the operation of the company and by replacing certain individuals, they did not only interrupt the development but also caused a staffing and financial crisis in the company. In addition, they also chose to turn a blind eye to the public interest, i.e. the population of the Primorska region. In their annual reports, the companies Luka Koper, Intereuropa Koper, Hit Nova Gorica, Primorje Ajdovščina and Banka Koper emphasize their commitment to social responsibility; however, being owners of Primorske novice, they clearly demonstrated that other interests were more important.

Two of the new holidays, the “Day of Slovenes in Prekmurje Incorporated into the Mother Nation” and the “Day of Restoration of the Primorska Region to the Motherland” were objected by representatives of the Hungarian and the Italian minorities. Thus the aim of this thesis was to disclose reasons behind the minorities’ objections and to present practical as well as theoretical implications of the dispute between the majority politicians and representatives of the minorities. Standpoints of the majority media have also been taken into consideration during the analysis. Second, Slovene statesmen’s and Slovene media’s attitude towards the celebration of the new Slovene national holidays was compared with their attitude towards celebrations of annual anniversaries of the so called Carinthian plebiscite after which the Slovene minority was to live in Austria. Based on the research we can say that the introduction of the new holidays was not explicitly directed against the minorities, but the latter perceived them as such because their content was in conflict with the minorities’ historical memory and national sentiments.

News Reporting about Genetically Modified Organisms in the Context of Different Journalistic Ideologies Karmen Erjavec* Melita Poler Kovačič** SUMMARY The aim of this article is to research how Slovenian journalists carry out the professional ideology of objectivity, which is prevalently founded on the An- glo-American model of journalism and demands that journalists devote the same amount of space or time to all actors involved in an event. The study was performed on a case of news reporting about one of the most controversial biotechnological topics, i.e., the introduction of the cultivation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). All previous studies about news reporting on this topic in European media showed that journalists were mostly constructing the anti-GMOs discourse, based on sources which put the risks of GMOs at the forefront. Because these studies used only quantitative methods and analysed only the elite press, our study combines methods and includes diverse media in the sample. Both quantitative analysis (content analysis) and qualitative analy- sis (critical discourse analysis) of news items about GMOs, published in the Slovenian press, television programs and the press agency in 2009 and 2010 revealed that journalists predominantly cited sources which opposed the in- troduction of the cultivation of GMOs, and they explicitly expressed their own opinions, which were against GMOs. Journalists of tabloids were particularly negative in their views; they tried to mobilize the audience to boycott GMO- products.
