This area of land on the eastern fringe of the park was identified as a site for new working class housing following the sale of 800 acres of parkland to Nottingham City council in 1924.

By focusing on one particular city, Nottingham, I formulate an analysis of the place that cinema has occupied in the city's history. Utilising the local press as the primary source enables me to situate the discourses on the cinema building and the practice of cinema-going within the broader socio-cultural contexts and history of the city.

  • Wollaton Park Pavillion Development Page:1
Wollaton Park Pavillion Development Page:1 Wollaton Park Pavillion Development Wollaton Park Pavillion Development Overall 579 respondents completed this questionnaire. The report has been filtered to show the responses for 'All Respondents'. The following charts are restricted to the top 12 codes. Do you think the project is a good idea? Yes (552) 96% No (21) 4% If no, why not? Wollaton Park is good as it is the council does not need to spend any money at all. I have been to Wollaton Park many times and the pavillion is useless. Inside seating area too small. Money should be spent on more urgent and important areas. The design is not fit for purpose and it it looks out of place. Money better spent maintaining roads and pavements should not build on parkland There is another Cafe on site which draws visitors up to the hall and the centre of the park, The other risk is the big tree at the rear of the development causing debris to fall on the building and other associated problems with safety. After a full risk assessment having an event space might well be the answer but incorparating separate toilets that can be used outside building opening hours by park users would be adventageous. it is too much money to be spent in such difficult economic times for just a lean to and decking. the decking wont last long either Money should be spent on restoring the fountain at the hall. It is a disgrace and spoilt the visitor's experience for many years.

  • The Broadmarsh Reimagined - Putting People and Nature at the Heart of Nottingham’S Green Ambitions
The Broadmarsh reimagined - putting people and nature at the heart of Nottingham’s green ambitions. For more than a decade Nottingham has demonstrated ambition in its commitment to becoming the UK’s first carbon neutral city. Following the launch of the ‘Big Conversation’ about the future of the Broadmarsh area, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, a locally based charity which has championed urban wildlife for over 30 years, believes that Nottingham has a once in a generation opportunity to reshape the fabric of the City to match its green ambitions. Green cities around the world such as Copenhagen, Freiburg, and Portland share Nottingham’s ambitions to cut carbon emissions, but they have set themselves apart by putting nature and accessible greenspace at the heart of urban planning to create vibrant, liveable cities. Nottingham has greenspaces to be proud of, not least the Arboretum, and magnificent Wollaton Park, but the heart of our city is unmistakably grey not green. As new developments have replaced old, fragments of remaining greenspace have disappeared and opportunities to recreate vital new green areas have been lost. Now is the time to put nature back. A reimagined Broadmarsh, with 100% of the derelict and demolished site transformed into a natural urban oasis, would become Nottingham’s living breathing heartbeat – a mini Central Park where people can connect with nature and escape the stresses of city life without leaving the city. As Nottingham seeks to recover from the human and economic impacts of the pandemic, a Broadmarsh re-imagined as natural greenspace would improve the health of city residents.

  • Wollaton Walk 1
POINTS OF INTEREST Wollaton Walk 1. Wollaton Hall is one of the country’s finest Grade One listed Elizabethan mansions. The magnificent site houses a hall built in the 1580s by Sir Francis Willoughby, the Camellia House, the Courtyards, Museums and formal gardens. You can explore the 500 acres of deer park and the lake in the grounds if you have time. There is an array of wildlife including herds of red and fallow deer. 2. Martin’s Pond is a Local Nature Reserve, which was the first to be designated in Nottingham in 1976, and was first documented in 1835. The area is a haven for wildlife and associated with the fisheries which sourced the lake at Wollaton Hall.
