RELEASE NUMBER 3 (September 9, 2013) Pac-12 Mountain Network (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) QUICKLY SPEAKING … The Colorado Buffaloes (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12) remain in the confines of the state of Colorado for a third straight week, hosting the Fresno State Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 MWC) this Saturday, September 14 at Folsom Field; kickoff is set for 12:07 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Mountain Network ... The Buffs last opened with three games in Colorado in 2008, the last time they were 3-0 ... This will mark Colorado’s final non-conference game of the 2013 season; the Buffaloes have a bye week ahead of their conference opener, which will be Sept. 28 at Oregon State. The Beavers are the last Pac-12 team that CU has yet to play, although the California game in 2011 was the back end of a home-and-home agreement in non-league play and was not counted in the conference standings ... Colorado is coming off a 38-24 win over Central Arkansas (the No. 5 ranked team in the FCS going into the game; the Bears dropped to No. 7 after the loss); Fresno State had a tamer game in week two than its opener, defeating Cal Poly 41-25 (led 34-0 at halftime) after toppling Rutgers in overtime to open the season by a score of 52-51 ... CU’s 13 active seniors are tied for the ninth-fewest in the country for 2013; the Buffs have played seven true freshmen to date this season on the other end of the spectrum .... As stated above, Colorado last opened with a pair of wins in 2008, which was also the last time CU opened 3-0; the Buffs previously were 3-0 in 2004, but have not won their first four games since opening 5-0 in 1998 ... CB Greg Henderson jumped a route and raced 46 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter; early in the fourth quarter, FS Jered Bell did the same, except his covered 79 yards for a score that tied the game at 24; late in the quarter, CB Kenneth Crawley picked one off on fourth down in the end zone, ending any chance of a late UCA rally. It was the first time the Buffs returned two interceptions for scores since the last day of the last century: Dec. 31, 1999 when ILB Jashon Sykes and SS Rashidi Barnes did it against Boston College in the Insight.com Bowl. OBSCURE NOTEs OF THE WEEK In 2012, Colorado allowed 7.96 yards per opponent first down play; hard to win games when your opponent spends much of the day looking at 2nd-&- 2s; fast-forward to this season, and there’s marked improvement at least to start the year: that number is down to 4.17 on first down plays. A group of anonymous donors partnered with Innovative Base Technologies, LLC, to make the new recreation and athletic field a possibility at Academy Prep. Currently, students play and practice sports on a field so over-used that much of it has turned to dirt. A durable, long-lasting synthetic turf has long been a dream of the Academy Prep Board of Trustees and staff. “Synthetic turf entails no maintenance, and we are excited to give our children very safe and beautiful grounds to play on,” said Lincoln Tamayo, Head of School at Academy Prep Center of Tampa. Academy Prep students, including Boy Scout Troop 100, along with graduates and staff helped install the base system for the new field. It was an opportunity for the students create a lasting legacy for the school – the turf is projected to last for up to 15 years. “Because of the unique installation methodology we were able to involve the students during certain phases of installation,” said Dave Barlow, president of Innovative Base Technologies. “In essence, UltraBaseSystems allows for community involvement in the construction of the field, creating a real sense of pride by the students in demonstrating the rewards for hard work.” “I believe this is a perfect message to send to these kids: if you want it, get involved, because with passion and hard work anything is possible,” said Barlow.

    Dec. 6, 2016 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Steve Richardson [email protected] 214-870-6516 FIVE FINALISTS NAMED FOR 2016 EDDIE ROBINSON AWARD NEW YORK (FWAA) – The Football Writers Association of America, in conjunction with the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has announced five finalists for the2016 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. The winner of the award will be revealed on Dec. 15. In alphabetical order, the finalists are: Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck, Penn State’s James Franklin, Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre, Washington’s Chris Petersen and Alabama’s Nick Saban. “This is an especially strong field of candidates,” said FWAA President Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Each one of these coaches could win the award and probably would in most other seasons. They all set the bar extraordinarily high, and whoever does win Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year will further honor the great man for whom we present this award.” The only previous winner in the group is Saban, who has his team poised for a fifth national title in eight years. He claimed the FWAA Coach of the Year Award previously in 2008 (at Alabama) and in 2003 (at LSU), when the Tigers claimed a piece of the national title. Petersen has been a four-time finalist while at Boise State in 2006 and ‘08, ‘09 and ‘10. The finalists have been placed on a ballot, which has been sent to the entire FWAA membership.
