RELEASE NUMBER 3 (September 9, 2013) Pac-12 Mountain Network (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) QUICKLY SPEAKING … The Colorado Buffaloes (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12) remain in the confines of the state of Colorado for a third straight week, hosting the Fresno State Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 MWC) this Saturday, September 14 at Folsom Field; kickoff is set for 12:07 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Mountain Network ... The Buffs last opened with three games in Colorado in 2008, the last time they were 3-0 ... This will mark Colorado’s final non-conference game of the 2013 season; the Buffaloes have a bye week ahead of their conference opener, which will be Sept. 28 at Oregon State. The Beavers are the last Pac-12 team that CU has yet to play, although the California game in 2011 was the back end of a home-and-home agreement in non-league play and was not counted in the conference standings ... Colorado is coming off a 38-24 win over Central Arkansas (the No. 5 ranked team in the FCS going into the game; the Bears dropped to No. 7 after the loss); Fresno State had a tamer game in week two than its opener, defeating Cal Poly 41-25 (led 34-0 at halftime) after toppling Rutgers in overtime to open the season by a score of 52-51 ... CU’s 13 active seniors are tied for the ninth-fewest in the country for 2013; the Buffs have played seven true freshmen to date this season on the other end of the spectrum .... As stated above, Colorado last opened with a pair of wins in 2008, which was also the last time CU opened 3-0; the Buffs previously were 3-0 in 2004, but have not won their first four games since opening 5-0 in 1998 ... Visit CUBuffs.com/gameday as your one stop for everything, including our on-line media guide and live stats ... CU is actively promoting “Fill Folsom” this week to get a better crowd for Fresno State than last week’s 35,168 that were in attendance for the Central Arkansas game (a 25-year low); as of Monday evening, CU had already moved that amount of tickets for the contest. DEPTH CHART ON PAGE 45; ROSTER ON PAGES 46-47 CU-Fresno State TV: Pac-12 Mountain Network / Kevin Calabro (play-by-play) / Yogi Roth (color analyst) / Jill Savage (sidelines) / David Feldman (producer) STAT OF THE WEEK Talk about when it rains, it pours: the Buffaloes intercepted just three passes in all of 2012 (after just seven in 2011), and had a span of 267 passes by the opponent without picking one off until the second quarter of last Saturday’s Central Arkansas game. CB Greg Henderson jumped a route and raced 46 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter; early in the fourth quarter, FS Jered Bell did the same, except his covered 79 yards for a score that tied the game at 24; late in the quarter, CB Kenneth Crawley picked one off on fourth down in the end zone, ending any chance of a late UCA rally. It was the first time the Buffs returned two interceptions for scores since the last day of the last century: Dec. 31, 1999 when ILB Jashon Sykes and SS Rashidi Barnes did it against Boston College in the Insight.com Bowl. OBSCURE NOTEs OF THE WEEK In 2012, Colorado allowed 7.96 yards per opponent first down play; hard to win games when your opponent spends much of the day looking at 2nd-&- 2s; fast-forward to this season, and there’s marked improvement at least to start the year: that number is down to 4.17 on first down plays. The CU defense has already forced the opponent into 14 “three-and-outs” after just two games; the Buffs forced 29 all of last season. 2013 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (2-0, 0-0 PAC-12) 2013 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That or ’12 rewind Sept. 1 NR Colorado State (Denver) NR CBS-SN W 41-27 0-2 62-21-2 Wood throws for 400 yards/3 TD; Richardson hauls in 10 for 208/2 TDs in return SEPT. 7 NR CENTRAL ARKANSAS (N) NR P12N W 38-24 1-1 1- 0-0 CU gets two INT return TDs and scores 21 4Q points in upending FCS No. 5 team SEPT. 14 FRESNO STATE P12N Noon 2-0 4- 2-0 In ’12: FSU jumps to 35-0 1Q lead; 102 degrees at kick tied warmest-ever for CU Sept. 28 at Oregon State TBA TBA 1-1 2- 3-0 First meeting between the two since ’88 in Boulder (CU, 28-21) OCT. 5 OREGON (FW) P12N TBA 2-0 8- 9-0 Ducks’ speed too much for Buffs, UO led 56-0 at half; Powell ran for 121/2 TD Oct. 12 at Arizona State TBA TBA 1-0 0- 4-0 CU down 20-17 at half; second half opening KOR for TD shifts momentum to ASU OCT. 26 ARIZONA (HC) TBA TBA 2-0 13- 2-0 Frosh Powell, Abron combine for 220 rush yards, but UA’s Carey nets 366 Nov. 2 at UCLA TBA TBA 2-0 2- 6-0 Buffs down 21-7 in 3rd, but stopped on a 4th-&-1, FUM and INT; UCLA pulls away Nov. 9 at Washington TBA TBA 1-0 5- 7-1 UW breaks open a tight 7-0 game at halftime with 17 third quarter points NOV. 16 CALIFORNIA TBA TBA 1-1 2- 4-0 ’11 game was non-league affair (Cal 36-33 in OT/Boulder); thus first Pac-12 game NOV. 23 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TBA TBA 1-1 0- 7-0 Barkley throws 6 TD passes (in ’11 & ‘12); CU nets just two FGs in 5 redzone trips Nov. 30 at Utah TBA TBA 2-0 31-25-3 Back-to-back 100-yard KOR TDs by CU (Mosley), UU (Dunn), but latter won it (All times mountain.
