an engineer for 9 years in Bangkok away from home • Found his path to true happiness after reading a book on “Returning home with the application of SEP”, inspiring him to return home nourishing family values Mr. Adun Wichianchai Adun Khlong Luang Mushroom Farm: • Started by Mr. Adun, an engineer turned young smart farmer, since 2013 to earn extra income in addition to rice farming • Grow Bhutan Oyster Mushroom due to fast and constant yield as well as practice farming and way of life based on the application of SEP, such as household bookkeeping • Add value to mushroom in the forms of Farm to Learning Center in 2016 • Gather local wisdoms and share knowledge based on first-hand practices and experience in different learning stations to others who are interested without charges • Expand networks to key partners such as Community Development Department (CDD) of the Ministry of Interior, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), schools • Share knowledge through different learning stations on self-reliance in practice and participatory process for community product development • Learning stations on self-reliance in practice include mushroom spawn, Bhutan Oyster mushroom, Photosynthetic Bacteria (PSB), herb garden, horticulture garden, livestock, wastewater treatment and “New Theory” agriculture stations • Learning stations on participatory process for community product development include mushroom processing, traditional Thai desserts based on local wisdom and handicraft stations Learning Stations: Self-reliance in Practice Mushroom Spawn Station “Cost reduction & Affordable machine” • Mr. Adun makes his own mushroom spawn, helping to reducing the production cost and earning more profits • With his engineering background, he developed mushroom spawn machine, made from simple and affordable materials Bhutan Oyster Mushroom Station “Increasing income based on local wisdom & resources” • As a “Young Smart Farmer”, Mr. Adun chose to grow Bhutan Oyster Mushroom due to fast and constant yields in addition to rice farming • He utilizes local wisdom and resources as value added to processed mushroom products, earning extra income Photosynthetic Bacteria (PSB) Station “Environment conservation by saying no to chemicals” • Mr. Adun produces bio-fertilizer by using solar energy which is clean and renewable instead of using farm chemicals • The PSB could improve soil fertility for several crops in the farm and also conserve the environment Herb Garden Station “Growing herbs and eating them from your own yard” • By practicing self-reliance principle, Mr. Adun grows herbs and spices such as lemon grass, chrysanthemum, inca peanuts • In addition to treating various symptoms and ailments, herbs can be used to spice up various food dishes Learning Stations: Self-reliance in Practice Horticulture Garden Station “Ensuring food security to community” • Mr. Adun grows horticulture garden for own consumption, while surplus has been given as school food bank and the rest will be sold to market • This is another good practice of a sustainable farming to attain food security and to end hunger as well as improve nutrition in community Livestock Station “Another contributor to sustainable food security” • Livestock is one of the important contributors to sustainable food security • Mr. Adun raises chickens and ducks for constant supply of eggs, breeds frogs for selling their breeders to villagers, and also breeds catfish for selling and food Wastewater Treatment Station “Using nature to cure natural problem” • Aquatic plants could be a low-cost method of wastewater treatment because of their ability to absorb toxins until the water quality meets acceptable standards and restore ecosystem • This is a very simple yet effective solution to water treatment “New Theory” Agriculture Station • The “New Theory” based on SEP advises farmers to manage their plot of land by dividing it into 4 sections • The 30:30:30:10 formula defines paddy field, horticulture garden, wood tree planting, pond and house • The New Theory suggests 3 stages to attain sustainable development including self-reliance, group culture and network promotion Learning Stations: Participatory Process for Community Product Development Mushroom Processing Station “Value Addition in Mushroom” • At the learning center, mushroom also comes in the form of chips, cupcakes and sausages “Strengthening Community Network” • Community Development Department helps improve packaging and introduce OTOP (One Tumbon One Product) brand • Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) transfers knowledge on solar drying technologies for sustainable fruit processing Traditional Thai Desserts Based on Local Wisdom Station “Local Wisdom is shared and conserved” • Aunt Sunee, a traditional Thai desserts guru, shares her knowledge of making Krayasart (Thai sweet cereal bar) from local sugarcanes with others who are interested • This is how local wisdom will be conserved and passed on to younger generations Handicraft Station “Wide Variety of Handicraft Products” • Handicraft is available in variety ranging from traditional baskets to modern handbags, souvenirs made from coconut shells, painting “Increasing Participation in Community” • Handicraft skills are being shared among students and interested villagers to learn how to make crafts from local available materials • This can also add skills to increase their occupational opportunities Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) • SEP is a “thinking process” with people at the centre • The Philosophy is based on 5 elements, which are the principles of reasonableness, moderation, self-immunity, together with the foundation of knowledge and virtues • Sustainability based on the application of SEP can be gauged in 4 dimensions for progressing with balance: economic, social, environmental, and also cultural, ensuring self-reliance and resilience with participatory process     Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Data as reported by the CCSA press briefing including a summary over the past week from 17 to 24 June 2021 24 June 2021 WHO Thailand Situation Update THAILAND 232,647 SITUATION 1,775 39,517 191,355 8,400,320 UPDATE (1st 6,017,424 2nd 2,382,896) Currently No. 189 Confirmed Deaths Hospitalized Recovered Vaccinated SPOTLIGHT • Today, 4,108 new cases (3,865 community transmission) of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and 31 new deaths were announced by the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. 1,564 patients are considered to have serious illness, of which 445 are currently receiving ventila- tory support (see chart lower right) 229 cases are in prison facilities and 14 cases were detected in quarantine after arriving in Thailand from another country 2,835 cases were detected through the routine surveillance system: (testing of people presenting at a healthcare facility for a variety of reasons, including presence of COVID-19 symptoms, contact with a case, concern about possible exposure) and 1,030 cases identified through active case finding: (testing of people in the community at the initiative of public health authorities), see the chart below lower left. 39,517 cases are receiving treatment or are in isolation, 13,320 in conventional hospitals and 26,197 in field hospitals. • In the last week 3106 community transmission cases on average have been reported per day since the last Situation Update, a 31% in- crease from the average of 2,357 per day in the previous week. Community cases in Thailand and Bangkok have increased over the last week, see the chart lower left below, with an average rate of positive results from testing of increasing to 5.8 (from 4.7%) nationally and 8.7% (from 6.3%) in Bangkok, see table below.

Myanmar and Thailand are adjacent countries that together occupy more than the half the area of continental Tropical Asia. This geographic area is diverse ecologically, ranging from cool-temperate to tropical climates, and includes from coast, rainforests and high mountain elevations. An updated checklist of aquatic plants, which includes 78 species in 44 genera from 24 families, are presented based on floristic works. This number includes seven species, that have never been listed in the previous floras and checklists. North: Nakhon Sawan; Central: Chai Nat, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Pathumthani, Nonthaburi, Samutsakhon, Samut Prakarn and Bangkok; Northeast: Roi-et; Eastern: Chacheongsao, Nakhon Nayok. The total of 116 Districts, 924 Sub-Districts, 5,530 Villages, 1,879,224 families and/or 5,036,020 people are affected by the flood. The total fatalities are 615 deaths and 3 missing. (Missing: 2 in Mae Hong Son, and 1 in Uttaradit) 1.1.2 Southern Thailand: There are 6 provinces affected by flood, namely Phatthalung, Suratthani, Nahon Si Thammarat, Yala, Songkla, and Narathiwas. The total of 26 Districts, 90 Sub-Districts, 446 Villages, 28,581 families and/or 90,869 people are affected by the flood. However, only Phatthalung is under state of emergency, while Songkla, the situation is back to normal. The rest is under preparation for declaring the state of emergency. It is well-known that shops in night markets frequently use colorful light sources, emitting high levels of illumination to attract customers. Since previous research has shown environmental risks of inappropriate lighting on human health and well-being, as well as on ecosystems, excessive lighting in night markets could have adverse effects on vendors’ health if they are exposed to high illumination levels during long hours every night. This is a risk for people, but also for their attachment to their lands, traditions, culture, and way of life. This study was designed to explore whether excessive illumination of night markets has impacts on vendors’ health and well-being.
