VOCAL RECITAL BY Ms. VIDYA SHAH

On Thursday, 5th April 2018, Cambridge School, Noida hosted a vocal recital by Ms. Vidya Shah, an eminent vocalist who was initially trained in Carnatic music and later received guidance in the North Indian genres of Khayal from and Mujahid Hussein Khan and Dadra and from Shanti Hiranand. After the auspicious lighting of the lamp she began her performance with a Sufi song composed by one of the first woman Sufi poets of the 7th century, Rabi‟a Al Basri, which was followed by a traditional folk song from Rajasthan. Her next song was a composition by the 17th century Punjabi poet Shah Hussein, about „salu‟, a cloth that signified the bond between mother and child. She sang a Guru Vandana written by Sant Kavi paying tribute to teachers. She went on to perform a few old Hindi film songs such as „Hamri Attariya Pe‟, and ended the performance with an energetic rendition of „Duma Dum Mast Kalandar.‟ It was heartening to watch the students participating by clapping to the beat. Her vibrant, melodious and energetic rendition kept the audience captivated as they drifted into the lyrical journey of music. She was accompanied by talented musicians on the tabla, sitar, harmonium, guitar and dafli. The performance was followed by an interactive session where students asked Ms. Vidya Shah several questions which she answered with great depth and wisdom. The occasion was graced by Dr. Kalyani Roy, Secretary, Society for Advancement of Education and distinguished members of Education Research Centre and the Management Committee.

MONTHLY REPORT-APRIL 2018 SPIC MACAY, THEATRE PERFORMANCE BY NAYA THEATRE

On 12th April 2018, Cambridge School Noida hosted a group of 19 theatre artistes of the renowned theatre group „Naya Theatre‟, under the aegis of SPIC MACAY. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the distinguished guests which was then followed by the play „Charandas Chor‟. Naya theatre was founded by Mr. and is currently headed by his daughter, Ms Nagin Tanvir. The play „Charandas Chor‟ revolved around a thief who makes a vow to his „Guru‟ that he would never lie. Directed by Mr Ram Chandra, the play focussed on the theme of honesty and that one must never deter from the path of honesty and even be willing to die in order to keep a promise. The performance was followed by an interactive session with the audience. The Principal, Ms. Dipannita Mondal presented a token of appreciation to the artistes. The event was graced by Dr Kalyani Roy, (Secretary SAE and Manager Cambridge School, Noida), members of the school Management Committee, members of ERC, teachers and students from sister schools. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the Head Girl, Ms. Khushi Sharma.

Play „Charandas Chor‟ by SPIC MACAY NCC ACTIVITIES

 The "Digital India" programme was conducted on 11thApril 2018 jointly by 37UP BN NCC Ghaziabad and 13 UP Girls Battalion. The motive was to reach the masses. It was conducted at Ingraham School, Ghaziabad. The cadets were trained by Brigadier S.P Sinha, Colonel Dheeraj Chandola, NCC Officers Mr. S.P Sharma and Mr. M.P Sharma. The officers motivated the cadets to do maximum transactions digitally and minimize cash transaction.  New cadets were enrolled on 16th April 2018 in Cambridge School, Noida. JCO Kundan Lal and JCO Jeet Lal Singh were sent by 37UP BN NCC Ghaziabad to assist NCC officer Mr. S.P Sharma who selected and enrolled the new NCC cadets.

MONTHLY REPORT-APRIL 2018 Digital India programme EARTH DAY CELEBRATION 2018

Cambridge School, NOIDA, celebrated Earth Day on 20th April, 2018 by organizing a number of competitions for the students of classes VI to XII like Best out of Waste, Newsletter Making, Poster Making, Photography and Quiz. The students exhibited creativity and participated in the activities with great zeal and enthusiasm. Dr Yogendra K Saxena, EHS, CSR, Biodiversity and Sustainability Auditor to TUV Rheinland graced the occasion as the chief guest. A brief cultural programme was followed by showing a short video filmed on “Swachch Bharat” sent by CBSE to create awareness on “Clean India”. The Chief Guest in his address emphasized the importance of waste management and segregation of waste for greater utility, avoiding the use of polybags and being a conscious citizen. He also asked the students to be role models and act as “Green Ambassador” of the society.

To pay tribute to the great bard of Avon, Shakespeare Day was celebrated with zeal and fervour at Cambridge School, Noida on 23rd April, 2018 in the Roma Deb Auditorium. A host of competitions were organised for the students of Classes VII to X by the English Department to commemorate the works of William Shakespeare.

 Enactment of Female Characters in Shakespeare‟s Plays. An inter section competition on Enactment of Female Characters in Shakespeare‟s plays was organised for class VIII. There were two participants from each section. Students exhibited their acting skills in playing the role of Lady Macbeth, Portia and Desdemona. The judges for this segment were Ms. Kakolee Sengupta and Ms. Anubha Rawat. The participants were appreciated by the judges and audience (all sections of class VIII).  Soliloquies from Shakespearean Plays Two students from each section of Class IX participated in the competition „Soliloquies from Shakespearean Plays.‟ Students got a chance to hear the rendition of some famous soliloquies from the plays of Shakespeare such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and As You like It. The students were judged on the basis of dialogue delivery, expression, diction, memorisation and confidence. The characters came alive on stage as the students presented their soliloquies with dramatic effectiveness creating suspense in the minds of the audience. Ms. Latika Joshi and Ms. Deepa Wadhwa kindly consented to be the judges for the event.  Comic Characters from Shakespeare's Plays Two students from each section of class VII enacted 'Comic Characters' from Shakespeare's plays. The event began with a welcome address where the compere spoke at length about Shakespeare‟s comic masterpieces. The students enacted various roles e.g. Witches from Macbeth, Puck from Midsummer Night‟s Dream, Helena and Hermia from Midsummer Night‟s Dream, Nick Bottom from Midsummer Night‟s Dream, Julia from The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Rosalind from As You like it. The enactments were judged by Ms. Jyoti Agarwal and Ms. Kakolee Sengupta. Students enthusiastically participated in the event and their efforts were applauded by the esteemed judges.  Sonnet Recitation An inter section Shakespearean Sonnet Recitation competition was organised for the students of class X on 23rd April, 2018 in the Roma Deb Auditorium. Two students from each section of class X participated in the event. All the students of class X witnessed the event. The judges for the competition were Ms. Latika Joshi and Ms Jyoti Aggarwal. The day reverberated with the multifarious activities of the Great bard‟s creations.

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR PARENTS OF CLASS VI

Cambridge School, Noida organised an Orientation Programme for the parents of classes VI, VII and VIII in the Roma Deb Auditorium on 7th April, 2018. The Principal, Ms. Dipannita Mondal in her welcome address urged the parents to be more communicative, sensitive towards their children‟s problems. She recommended that the parents need to take care of their wards‟ nutrition, health and hygiene. The Middle School Coordinators, Ms. Jyoti Agarwal and Ms. Vasundhra Kaushik briefed the parents about the school motto, vision, mission and the various facilities available in the school. Ms. Vasundhara explained the criteria for assessment in scholastic and co- scholastic areas. The French and German teachers gave valuable inputs regarding their subjects. This was followed by an interactive session and the concerns raised by the parents regarding various issues pertaining to the school administration and academics was answered by Ms. Nandita Sinha Roy, Vice Principal, Academics much to the satisfaction of the parents. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Jyoti Agarwal, the Middle School Coordinator.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR CLASSES VII AND VIII

The Orientation programme for Classes VII and VIII was organised on 21st April, 2018 at Cambridge School, Noida in the Roma Deb Auditorium. The programme commenced with a poem recital by Ms. Jyoti Agarwal followed by the welcome address by the School Principal Ms. Dipannita Mondal. She asked the parents to be more communicative and sensitive towards their children's problems. In her address she highlighted the importance of the safety and security of students while boarding and getting off the school bus at the designated stop. She ended by urging the parents to take care of the nutrition, health and hygiene of the children and to give a patient hearing to their concerns. Middle School Coordinators Ms. Jyoti Agarwal and Ms. Vasundhara Kaushik briefed the parents about the school motto, vision, mission; various facilities available in the school, British Council International School Award Activities, value based education, educational tours, etc. Ms.

MONTHLY REPORT-APRIL 2018 Vasundhara explained the criteria for assessment in Scholastic and Co- Scholastic areas. Subject enrichment activities in various subjects and criteria for assessing notebooks were also mentioned. Parents‟ concerns related to smart boards, inclusion of Robotics in work education, non-availability of some textbooks (English and Hindi supplementary books), details of activities conducted in subject enrichment were satisfactorily answered by the Coordinators. The programme ended with Ms. Jyoti Agarwal proposing the Vote of Thanks.

TALK ON MALDIVES RELATIONS WITH CHINA AND INDIA

An extension lecture was held at Cambridge School, Noida on the topic “Maldives relations with China and India” on 11thApril, 2018. The guest speaker was Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar. All Cambridge schools were invited and a total of 90 students and 7 teachers attended the lecture at the Roma Deb Auditorium, Cambridge School, Noida. Ambassador Sajjanhar informed the students about the significant geographical location of Maldives, the historical timeline, the period of colonial rule, the first President and the current President of Maldives. His lecture also included Maldives linkages with Pakistan which is a major issue of concern for India, the recent crisis and developments in Maldives. The lecture was interesting, informative and engrossing. The students also interacted with the speaker by putting up a lot of questions and sharing their opinions regarding the topic.

WORKSHOP ON ANGER MANAGEMENT

On 17thApril 2018, four students of class XII attended a workshop on Anger Management at Fortis Hospital, Noida. The coordinator of the program was Ms. Chitwan who began the workshop with an introduction about anger and aggression. She then enumerated the consequences aggression may have and how to control it. She also discussed different types of aggression, triggers for aggression; channelizing one‟s thoughts and how one can become assertive in life. One main therapy or technique that Ms. Chitwan taught was „the broken record therapy‟ in which one becomes assertive and tries not to show aggression. The workshop was very informative interspersed with activities that could be related to real life.

Anger Management workshop LECTURE- „DARK MATTER‟

A lecture on „Dark Matter‟ by Dr. Amitabh Mukherjee, a renowned educationist and Head of the Department, Physics and Astrophysics, Delhi University was organized in the Roma Deb Auditorium of Cambridge School, Noida on 6th April, 2018. Dr. Amitabh Mukherjee has also rendered his expertise to the Centre for Science and Environment for popularizing Science education in the country. Dr. Mukherjee started his lecture by explaining the difference between Dark and Bright matter, then elucidated in a very simple language how dark matter has been detected and why its existence cannot be disputed. He also shared with the audience the line of ongoing research in this field. The lecture was very fascinating and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and teachers of all branches of Cambridge Schools. The interactive session provided an opportunity for a meaningful engagement with Dr. Mukherjee followed by a stimulating discussion amongst the students and teachers.

WORKSHOP ON INCLUSIVE EDUCATION A workshop on Inclusive Education was conducted by Ms. Roomki Mitra (Special Educator & Child Psychologist) on 19th April, 2018 in Cambridge School, Noida at the Roma Deb Auditorium. It was attended by Dr Roy and members of the Management Committee, Special Educators and Counsellors of sister schools of Cambridge, few teachers of Cambridge School, Noida and students of classes XI and XII It was a seminar to understand the process of inclusion in all its aspects and to understand the strategies and best practices for inclusion of children with special needs. It focused on exploring ways to enable different stakeholders with skills and resources, thereby reframing inclusive education as a shared responsibility. Students raised some thought provoking questions on how inclusion is a difficult journey for some and it involves lot of sensitivity among the peers, teachers and families to let it become a reality. They also suggested interesting and innovative ways how families and parents can act as a resource in a school set up, thereby enabling inclusive processes in practice.

INTERACTIVE FRENCH LEARNING WORKSHOP

On 9th April 2018, Cambridge School, Noida hosted an Interactive French learning Workshop for classes VI & VII by Ms. Babusha Verma, a French language expert, who is currently working as the French faculty at St Stephen‟s College, Delhi University and Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan. She began the session with the students of class VI where they learnt about salutation and greetings and also interacted with each other through formal and informal dialogues. For class VII, Ms. Verma began with a verb game followed by a French song (the Francophone song) which the children had to decipher the meaning of and recognize the nationalities of various countries. Apart from this there were many activities such as forming dialogues, constructing sentences with the help of a bag of words and phrases and lastly a quiz based on the culture and civilization of France. The interactive session kept the audience engaged throughout. It was a very interesting and enjoyable experience.

ANNUAL GERMAN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL „NAMASTE DEUTSCHLAND-2018‟

The annual German Language Festival „Namaste Deutschland‟ was organized by the Language Department of the Goethe-Institute New Delhi, Max Mueller Bhavan on 28th April 2018 at the Genesis Global School, Noida. More than 2000 students of German and their accompanying teachers attended the festival. 23 Students from Cambridge School, Noida along with the German teacher Ms. Mitali Sengupta participated in the event. This year‟s theme was “UMDENKEN –Learning from the Nature” All the schools were allotted pavilions. The students beautifully decorated the prepared structures and displayed environmental posters, logos and models. The creativity of the students was indeed remarkable.They also participated in activities like dance, modelling, drawing, spray graffiti, handicrafts, baking, reciting tongue twisters, poetry and short stories. FASHION STUDIES PRESENTATION The students of the Fashion Studies Department of Cambridge School, Noida organised a presentation on 'The Origin and Development of Costume' on 26th April, 2018 to enhance and share their knowledge in fashion through the history of clothing. The presentation covered the origin of costumes both in India and the west from the 17th century to the period of 1900-1950. The students showcased various garments and styles based on the period mentioned. The show ended with a ramp walk portraying ready to wear fashion of the current times. The show was graced by Dr. Kalyani Roy Secretary, SAE and Vice Principal (Academics) Mrs. Nandita Sinha Roy.

MICROSCALE-CHEMISTRY WORKSHOP

The National Progressive Schools' Conference organised a workshop on Microchemistry in Maharaja Agrasen Model School, Pitampura on 27th April, 2018. This prestigious workshop was attended by Ms. Mamta Rishi (H.O.D Chemistry) from Cambridge School, Noida. The workshop commenced with the lighting of the lamp and a ceremonial song. Mr Suraj Prakash, Chairman of Bal Bharti School addressed the gathering and shared his experiences as a student and as a Principal. Prof Hari Om Gupta, Head of Workshop Department, NCERT demonstrated the use of the Microchemistry kit. The best part of the workshop was the „hands on‟ session; the teachers were taken to the lab to try experiments with microchemistry kit. This was followed by a question answer session where changes in syllabus were also briefly discussed. Next a session on experiments based on organic chemistry by Dr KK Arora, Prof Zakir Husain College, was conducted. He gave solutions for the problems faced by teachers in teaching Organic Chemistry. He also demonstrated a few experiments with the microscale apparatus. The last session was on Green Chemistry and its need for sustainable development. Overall, it was a very useful workshop.

MONTHLY REPORT-APRIL 2018 WORKSHOP ON DELHI‟S HERITAGE On 24th April, 2018 Ms. Kusum Lata of Cambridge School, Noida attended a Teacher Training workshop on Delhi‟s Heritage conducted by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, New Delhi. Ms. Purnima Datt (Principal Director, INTACH HECS) began the session with the description of the vast and varied heritage of India.

His presentation „Delhi‟s Heritage and issues related to Delhi‟s Urban Heritage Conservation‟ ranged from the Stone Age to the modern era. Dr. Narayani Gupta (Historian and Former Director INTACH) presented the „History and Heritage of Delhi‟. „Archaeological excavations in Delhi and the conservation of Delhi‟s monuments by ASI‟ was presented by Dr. Vasant Kumar Swarnkar (Superintendent Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India). He highlighted the excavation work of ASI at Purana Qila. The presentation on „Mapping of Delhi‟ was conducted by Ms. Gita Wahi Dua (Landscape Foundation of India). She said that history of a city should be seen in connection with nature. After a book release and a film show a quiz was conducted for the group. The workshop ended with the speech of Dr. C. T. Misra IAS Retd. (Member Secretary, INTACH). She expressed that the „beauty of India is in its diverse heritage and it is the duty of every citizen to protect and enrich it‟. Schools can play an important role in sensitising young people about the importance of preserving their local, national and world heritage. The participants were given certificates at the end of the workshop. TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS

VISIT TO IIT DELHI “OPEN HOUSE -2018” Few students of classes X and students from the science stream of XI and XII of Cambridge School, Noida along with two teachers, Dr Hemant Kumar Singh and Ms. Mamta Rishi, visited IIT Delhi on 21stApril, 2018 for the fourteenth Open House 2018, a one day event where engineering students from all over India showcased their working and static models. Open House 2018 was a one day event dedicated to provide an insight into path-breaking research work, student projects and the numerous advanced facilities and laboratories available in IIT Delhi. To prevent burning of crop residue which results in air pollution in Delhi, an eco-friendly technology was developed to convert the agro-waste into pulp at lower scales unlike industries that require heavy machinery.
