Powys LDP 2011-2026: Deposit Draft with Focussed Changes and Further Focussed Changes plus Matters Arising Changes September 2017 2 Powys Local Development Plan 2011 – 2026 1/4/2011 to 31/3/2026 Written Statement Adopted April 2018 (Proposals & Inset Maps published separately) Adopted Powys Local Development Plan 2011-2026 This page left intentionally blank Cyngor Sir Powys County Council Adopted Powys Local Development Plan 2011-2026 Foreword I am pleased to introduce the Powys County Council Local Development Plan as adopted by the Council on 17th April 2017. I am sincerely grateful to the efforts of everyone who has helped contribute to the making of this Plan which is so important for the future of Powys. Importantly, the Plan sets out a clear and strong strategy for meeting the future needs of the county’s communities over the next decade. By focussing development on our market towns and largest villages, it provides the direction and certainty to support investment and enable economic opportunities to be seized, to grow and support viable service centres and for housing development to accommodate our growing and changing household needs. At the same time the Plan provides the protection for our outstanding and important natural, built and cultural environments that make Powys such an attractive and special place in which to live, work, visit and enjoy. Our efforts along with all our partners must now shift to delivering the Plan for the benefit of our communities. Councillor Martin Weale Portfolio Holder for Economy and Planning

S T R A Y S Volume One: !'IARRIAGES Introduction This volume of 'stray' marriages is published with the hope that it will prove of some value as an additional source for the familv historian. For economic reasons, the 9rooms' names only are listed. Often people married many miles from their own parishes and sometimes also away from the parish of the spouse. Tracking down such a 'stray marriage' can involve fruitless and dishearteninq searches and may halt progress for many years. - Included here are 'strays', who were married in another parish within the county of Powys, or in another county. There are also a few non-Powys 'strays' from adjoining counties, particularly some which may be connected with Powys families. For those researchers puzzled and confused by the thought of dealing with patronymics, when looking for their Welsh ancestors, a few are to be found here and are ' indicated by an asterisk. A simple study of these few examples may help in a search for others, although it must be said, that this is not so easy when the father's name is not given. I would like to thank all those members who have helped in anyway with the compilation of this booklet. A second collection is already in progress; please· send any contributions to me. • From: Sharon Hughes
From: Sharon Hughes <[email protected]> Sent: 24 March 2020 19:39 Subject: Emergency child care for children under school age Good evening, We have been asked to circulate this information We would be grateful if the following message and link could be circulated to your parents. Many thanks Powys Childcare Team We are working to support families with their childcare needs to ensure the continuation of frontline services during the Covid-19 outbreak, and to provide care for vulnerable children. We are hoping to ensure that a limited number of our Childcare Providers remain open to provide care for these groups of children who are not yet of school age from Friday 27th March onwards. Where at all possible, children should stay at home. This cannot be over-emphasized. If your work is critical to the Covid-19 response or you work in one of the critical sectors listed below, and your child cannot stay at home, then your childcare will be prioritised: - Health and social care - Education and childcare - Key public services - Local and national government - Food and other necessary goods - Transport - Utilities, communication and financial services. From Friday 27th March, we are hoping to have childcare for children not of school age at the following locations: - Ystradgynlais - Brecon - Crickhowell - Llandrindod Wells - Newbridge - Llyswen - Newtown - Welshpool - Llanfyllin - Llanidloes The situation is being continually reviewed and there could be changes to provision, based on patterns of demand. Whilst we hope access to childcare will be provided to enable key workers to work during this critical period, we do need to keep the number of children in educational, childcare and play settings to the smallest number possible.

  • WSA Water Quality Monitoring Update 10 Dec 2020
WSA Water Quality Monitoring Update 10 Dec 2020 It is now nearly 6 months since we began sampling Phosphate (P) levels in the Wye in the river. To date we have taken some 259 samples at 14 locations in the river & tributaries. Our team of volunteers has grown to 11 with the addition of monitoring the main river at Fawley. When lockdown and river levels permit we will install a water temperature monitor as part of our ongoing Temperature Monitoring programme at the same location. Whilst we are observing some interesting data on P levels it remains inappropriate to draw firm conclusions until we gather a more substantive volume of data from a range of conditions throughout the year. However, there are some initial interesting results that encourage more detailed investigations. I have attached our spreadsheet for information. If you wish a full ‘excel’ file for your personal study and analysis please email me at [email protected] Some of our data is being analysed by an undergraduate at Cardiff University, himself an angler. Beginning with basic mapping of the sites he will follow on to study temporal trends in phosphate and river levels. At first look he is beginning to observe trends between water colour and phosphate level which seems likely rainfall linked. He will use various techniques to produce visual representations of the spatial and temporal variations in water chemistry. More at our next update. In tandem with the usual phosphate checks for WSA, and in the aftermath of the most recent fish kill on the Llynfi, Gwent AS has invested in an ammonia checker which records NH3-N.

  • 8.0 Biodiversity in and Around Sennybridge & Defynnog
8.0 Biodiversity in and around Sennybridge & Defynnog 8.1 Overview 8.1.1 The River Usk is a dominant feature along the north-western boundary of Sennybridge and the Afon Senni flows from the south through Defynnog and into the Usk towards the middle of the town. There is almost continuous tree cover along the river corridors providing valuable cover and habitat for bats, birds and species such as otter. The disused railway corridor also provides a woodland corridor through the settlement. The surrounding land is predominantly pasture, much of it improved grassland, but there is a surprising amount of semi-improved grassland with a variety of flower and grass species present, for example the football field between Defynnog and Sennybridge. The ancient yew tree in Defynnog churchyard is also a valuable historical and biodiversity feature.
