Contact: Susan Osborne for IMMEDIATE RELEASE 828-357-7680 Friday, February 22, 2019 Sosborne@Thecollider.Org Contact: Susan Osborne FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 828-357-7680 Friday, February 22, 2019 [email protected] The Cleverlys at Climate City Expo — A Benefit for The Collider One-of-a-kind music and comedy band to perform at 10-day celebration of Asheville’s creativity and commitment to climate change awareness and action ASHEVILLE, N.C., Feb. 22, 2019 — On Thursday, April 4, The Cleverlys will take the stage at the Salvage Station as part of The Collider’s 2019 Climate City Expo. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Available online, tickets are $22 per person, with proceeds benefiting The Collider. “We are excited to be a part of this event. For years we have tried to do our part as we have researched and developed a ‘methane muffler’ for all the farm animals at Cleverly Farm,” joked Digger Cleverly. “Looking forward to this event to raise awareness.” While the “methane muffler” may still be a bit of a pipe dream, The Collider couldn’t be more thrilled to have this one-of-a-kind band supporting our vision of a world prepared for climate change. The Cleverlys The Cleverlys are a one-of-a-kind comedy/music blend coming from the remote part of the Ozark Mountains, near Cane Spur, Arkansas. Digger Cleverly, along with his nephews Ricky Lloyd, Sock, DVD and Cub, make up The Cleverlys. They have traveled the globe — if the globe only consisted of the United States — performing at music venues and some of the nation’s largest festivals like Stagecoach, Telluride, CMA Music Fest and even the Grand Ole Opry. The New York Times wrote, "If Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, and Spinal Tap spawned a litter of puppies, it would be the Cleverlys.” Don’t be fooled by this faux-family band — they are all accomplished musicians putting their unique bluegrass spin on cover songs from any genre. The Cleverlys’ set list includes genius arrangements of tunes like Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” a medley of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity,” and Flo Rida’s “Low” that went viral on Facebook, with over 11 million views from a local TV appearance. Climate City Expo The Cleverlys’ show is part of the CCx: Arts track of The Collider’s Climate City Expo, which aims to showcase how artists are using craft, film, photography and fine art to bring attention to our changing climate and environment. The heart of the Expo is CCx: Business — a convening of global leaders and visionaries to discuss solutions to humanity’s biggest challenge. However, CCx 2019’s additional tracks of programming — including Luminaries, NextGen, Arts, Eats, Learn and Faith — are designed to showcase the many ways our communities are rising to the challenge of climate change. About The Collider The Collider is a nonprofit innovation ecosystem for climate entrepreneurship. We develop, train and fund next-generation entrepreneurs creating breakthrough solutions that enable humanity to adapt and thrive in a changing climate. • The Cleverlys Bring a New Blue to Bluegrass
PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mountain Home Music Company The Cleverlys bring a new Blue to Bluegrass Arden, North Carolina (January 29, 2019) — From the deep Ozark hollows of Cane Spur, Arkansas, The Cleverlys have been plucked from obscurity and landed in the studio to produce their first national label release, Blue, available March 22 from Mountain Home Music Company. With songs like Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable,” LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and The Zombies’ “She’s Not (Ain’t) There,” this music would be at the edge of being full camp if it weren't for the obvious vocal talent and stellar picking that holds up to any of today’s progressive acoustic bands. “If Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, and Spinal Tap spawned a litter of puppies, it would be The Cleverlys.” — The New York Times. The group brings the comedy it's been hailed for in national touring to this new recording, the first on the award-winning Bluegrass label, Mountain Home Music Company. The 5-piece includes vocalist and guitarist Dr. Digger Cleverly, the band patriarch who often refers to the outfit as the Cleverly Trio; Ricky Lloyd Cleverly on bass and vocals; DVD Cleverly on banjo and vocals; Cub Cleverly on mandolin and vocals; and Sock Cleverly on fiddle and vocals. Digger says, “I believe young folks, older folks, thicket thugs, librarians, college students, truck drivers, spam eaters, crop dusters, county fairs to livermush festivals, eyelash studios to tattoo parlors, mail carriers to body wax unions, Champaign to Pabst Blue Ribbon, will get something out of this project.” The lead-off track “Baby” is a cover of the Justin Bieber hit, but with The Cleverlys’ Bluegrass treatment, it sounds like Flatt and Scruggs could’ve written and recorded it.
