AUTHORIZATION: The Herring Bay & Rockhold Creek project was authorized by the River & Harbor Act of July 3, 1930 modified 1938.

CONTRIBUTION TO : Contributes to Executive Order 13508 goals by innovatively protecting environmental habitat, improving water quality, and expanding public access within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

BACKGROUND:

This project is located in Anne Arundel County, on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, south of Annapolis, Maryland.

The project provides for a channel 7 feet deep and 60 feet wide from the 7-foot contour in Herring Bay to the vicinity of the county wharf on Rockhold Creek, with a turning basin of the same depth, 100 feet wide and 150 feet long at the head of the channel, and two stone breakwaters both approximately 900 feet long on each side of the entrance channel. The project length is 7,300 feet.

This project was last dredged in 2009. The project was last surveyed in November 2017 and has shoaled to a controlling depth of 5.6 feet.
