RADIO ACTION CONTINUED

WYFE, ROCKFORD, IL M.D.-MAGIC: "If it wasn't for the Boss' influence I probably would have overlooked the Gary U.S. Bonds and, to be honest, I'm glad I didn't. The Springsteen tunes all sound good, but the album goes beyond that. Gary U.S. Bonds did not die after 'Quarter To Three'... has a hot album on his hands. I think this will be one of the big ones of 1981. I like '', 'In The Dark' and ''...Humble Pie is a natural. The band, even though they are hard, has upper-demo appeal especially from all the rock and roll crazys who remember them from the early 70's. Add that with a classic Presley track and you've got a sure-fire winner...We've Ueen on the Loverboy 13 weeks, and this album refuses to stop. Phones and sales still hot.. .Ozzy Osbourne is also doing very well, sales and requests with 'Crazy Train' as the key track...Rick Springfield is finally starting to build. Getting good male and female phones.. .Finally, congratulations to Ed Levine on his recent wedding. Good luck Ed.

KBPI, DENVER, CO M.D.-PHIL STRIDER: "This is a week for plenty of congratulations. First off to: Sharon White, Denver MCA, and Kip Gilbert, ex-Capitol, who got married this weekend, proving that true love can win out over incredible odds (the music business)...Congrats to: Mike Brannan, the new Atlantic rep. Mike deserves and has deserved such a good shot...Congrats along with that to: Mark Gorlick, who is going back to his favorite town, Seattle, to take Atlantic there...And congratulations to: NASA for an event that had me more excited than I've been since I was a little kid. What a phenomenal accomplish- ment. Do you think NASA will trade out space on the shuttle for a promotion?" KAZY, DENVER, CO M.D.-GREG GILLISPIE: "When I first heard the Gary U.S. Bonds, I thought, Boy, Springsteen and Bonds together--sort of a Dual Dedication and maybe they're paying homage to each other. Regardless, what we have here is not only one of the great comebacks of the year, but an R&B flavored record that's gonna be big on lots of different kinds of formats. Yesterday when we played it for the first time, the General Manager and the Program Director from our AM station, which by the way is country, both came running into my office jumping up and down and screaming and shouting about a new Gary U.S. Bonds record. Before I knew it, both these guys are standing here in my office singing 'Quarter To Three' and begging me for a copy of this new album. I think this record is gonna sound great in the spring and summer time... Finally got the Gino Vannelli on the radio. We'll use 'Seek And You Will Find'...On the Billy Squier, we went for '', but I have a feeling before long 'The Stroke' may find its way in there too. This guy sounds more like Led Zeppelin than Led Zeppelin does...Thoroughly getting into the Cold Chisel. It's a left field shot, but I think people should pay attention to 'My Baby'...We're getting such good res onse to the Phil Collins record that we also added 'Behind The Lines'.. .1 think it's odd to note that AC/DCcurrently has two albums in our Top 10 sales. I remember five years ago when only the hardest of the hardcore stations played their music, and now they have done something that no other band has done since I've been in Colorado...Last Saturday was the first annual Great Bed Race For Arthritis. I think I may have developed arthritis pushing that bed 7/10th of a mile at the ungodly hour of 9AM. Although we finished 4th in the race, we raised the most money, and that's what it's all about...Congratulations to: Sharon White and Kip Gilbert on tying the knot. It was great to see old friends Neil Lasher, Jeff Backer, and Howard Bernstein in town."

KWFM, TUCSON, AZ M.D.-JIM OWENS: "Thanks to: Bubba Osborn, Steve Shapiro, and Linda Thompson for helping us to throw a helluva barbecue party with Joe Ely last night. This man's stage presence is electrifying, and I don't bandy superlatives around. As the cliche goes, they were hanging from the rafters. My special thanks to: Steve Shapiro for turning me on to Joe's new album a few weeks back. We are all over. the album and the audience loves it. If you haven't done so, please check it out...And by the way, we at KWFM are real happy to announce we're coming up on our 11th birthday and we could use some audio drop ins from artists. So if anybody might want to call us and wish us Happy Birthday, please call collect at 602-624-5588, preferably between 10 and 2...One more thing, check out: Shake Russell And Dana Cooper-- class material!!!"

WGRQ, BUFFALO, NY M.D.-PAUL HEINE: "I'm real impressed with Billy Squier's new one, especially the tasty use of synthesizers and state of the art production...Veteran British rockers Humble Pie are back with their strongest effort in years. 'Teenage Anxiety' has it all. Great rock and roll lyrics and an addictive hook, clean production, and Steve Marriott's screaming vocals... Combine authentic R&B with first-rate songwriting and the unmistakeable Springsteen sound and you've got Gary U.S. Bonds' first hit album in many, many years. 'Jole Blon' is a bona fide killer...Getting good phone response to Willie Nile. _Thanks to Bruce Moser for the gallon of Love Canal water, but I think you'll be drinking it your- self...Good calls on the Jefferson Starship...Santana calls are good--sounds great on the air and will probably go to heavy next week... Getting re uests foriFi —Fretenders, so we increased play this week... Ozzy Osbourne is winning the Ozzy/Priest/Kro us battle...The new AC/DC is also real hot...Considering: Roger Taylor; also looking at the Robin Lane And The Chartbusters." KGON, PORTLAND, OR M.D.-GLORIA JOHNSON: "Billy Squier has a really strong album this time, powerfully produced and a number of good songs. We're starting with 'In The Dark', although I also like 'Whaddya Want From Me'...Loverboy is continuing to do incredibly well. We've just added another cut, 'Always On My Mind'...Top Five Sales: Loverboy; REO Speedwagon; Styx; AC/DC, 'Deeds'; Pat Benatar; Robin Trower showing significant gains--up to #20. Added 'Life On Earth'...Increased Rotation On: 1B.L.T. I...Top Five Requests: AC/DC, 'Dirty DeeTs -r ; Loverboy; Krokus; Judas Priest; and, Styx...Also Calls On: Ozzy Osbourne; and, Cold Chisel, 'My Baby'." WQXM, TAMPA/ST. PETERSBURG, FL M.D.-MOBY: "The Billy Squier album still just absolutely destroys me. I love it more every time I hear it...Ozzy Osbourne showing great potential on this album. Hot phones, of course. Tampa Bay remains a big Black Sabbath market to this day, and they seem to be accepting Ozzy as though it were the new Black Sabbath album...Beginning to be more and more impressed by Franke And The Knockouts. Their national exposure seems to be doing them some good on the phones, too...Gary U.S. Bonds-- I thought he died, but the album shows he's still very much alive. The Springsteen influence just might make it go.. .1 like the Producers album. I'm impressed with the response it's receiving nationwide and am curious to see what Tampa Bay will say about it...Willie Nile--Everybody seems to be just knocked out by 'Poor Boy', but it's 'Grenade' that really gets me. We'll stick with 'Poor Boy' for now...Rick Springfield has been receiving minimal airplay --phones have been good for it. Stores are selling the album, so we're moving it up. Expect big things from it...The Point Blank single is a hel of a good track. We'll move it up to a stronger rotation and see what happens. We have total faith in the album. We're approaching it with cautious anticipation...Also waiting for something to happen with the Pretenders, but aren't having much action yet...Increased Play: 'Kampuchea' (Stands a real good shot at being album of the year --phones just blistering on the 'Little Sister' cut. Robert Plant should become a full-time member of Rockpile--ef they'd just stay together.); U-2; and, Franke And The Knockouts." WROQ, CHARLOTTE, WV ASST. P.0.-JONATHAN WHITE: "The Point Blank album was slow in starting, but it's starting to heat up on the phones around here. 'The Getaway' proves to be the cut for us...Also, Rush is blowing everybody away here with this album. #2 in sales in the Charlotte area...Also, the Pat Travers 'Radio Active' is just starting to get the phones that we thought it would at first...Adds: Billy Squier, Humble Pie, and U-2."

WRKK, BIRMINGHAM, AL P.0. -DAN BRENNAN: "The album from Cold Chisel may be overlooked by some programmers. We're three cuts deep. We're getting phone response and receive calls from local record shops asking for information on the album. They report that customers are asking for the album. Still think it's an excellent album and still believe in it."
