Limestone County Athens 07 1630CST 0 0 15K 0 Lightning Lightning struck a power pole and severed it knocking out power to 3500 residents in the central part of the county. Trees and power lines were reported downed in scattered locations across the county. Morgan County Lacey Spring 14 1903CST 0 0 12K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) Trees were blown down in Lacey Springs in the northeast part of the county. One tree fell on a car. Madison County Huntsville 14 1930CST 0 0 10K 0 Lightning Lightning struck the generator room at WAAY-TV setting the breaker box on fire and knocking the station off the air for more than an hour. Montgomery County Montgomery 17 1430CST 0 1 15K 0 Lightning A man was injured while seeking shelter under a tree. A lightning bolt struck the tree and traveled along the ground through the man. During the same storm, lighting struck a sub-station and about 5,000 residents lost power for several hours. Madison County Huntsville 20 1311CST 0 0 20K 0 Lightning Lightning struck a sub-station causing power outages to 23,000 residents. Power was out for over an hour mainly from Huntsville northward to the Tennessee line. Blount County 3 S Locust Fork 22 1612CST 0 0 10K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) Power lines were down along Highway 79 south of Locust Fork in the southern part of the county. Jefferson County Birmingham 22 1645CST 0 0 20K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) A very large tree was blown over and damaged 8 cars near Legion Field. Jefferson County Homewood 22 1656CST 0 0 10K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) A few large tree limbs were reported blown down in Homewood and Vestavia Hills in the Birmingham area. Limestone County Athens 22 2110CST 0 0 10K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) Trees and power lines were downed. About 1700 residents were without power in Athens in the central part of the county. Madison County Huntsville 22 2145CST 0 0 10K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) Trees and power lines were down across the county. About 4,000 residents were without electricity. Tuscaloosa County Tuscaloosa 24 1600CST 0 0 65K 0 Flash Flood 1800CST About two inches of rain fell in Tuscaloosa in less than an hour causing serious flash flooding in the city. The water was reported to be four feet deep in some areas. About 50 cars were damaged in a used car dealership due to rising water. The water was high enough to cause cars to float. Several small bridges over small creeks were washed away. A few other trees were uprooted in the same neighborhood in northern Shelby County. Jefferson County Pinson 24 1641CST 0 0 0 0 Funnel Cloud A funnel cloud was reported in Pinson in the northeast part of Jefferson County. Jefferson County Bessemer 24 1645CST 0 0 10K 0 Thunderstorm Wind Trees were downed across Highway 150 near Bessemer in the southern portion of Jefferson County. Tuscaloosa County Tuscaloosa 24 1700CST 0 0 15K 0 Lightning Lightning struck a sub-station leaving about 8,300 residents without power. Chambers County Lanett 24 2100CST 0 0 10K 0 Thunderstorm Wind (G50) Trees and power lines were downed in the eastern part of the county. One person was trapped in their car due to rapidly rising water. Mobile County Semmes09 1545CST 0 0 Hail (0.75) Dime size hail was reported in Semmes. Mobile County Georgetown09 1615CST 0 0 2K Thunderstorm Wind (G55) Several limbs and power lines were blown down along US Hwy 45 near the city of Georgetown. ALZ061 Upper Mobile 11 0800CST 1 0 Excessive Heat 1500CST A 34 year old female was found in her vehicle suffering from a heat stroke outside a doctors office. She was estimated to have been in the vehicle for five and one half hours before being found. The outside air temperature climbed to 94 degrees and when found her body temperature was 108 degrees. She had first and second degree burns on her legs. She died in the hospital four days later from heat stroke. It is unknown if the heat is what caused her to pass out in the first place.
