1 Welcome

Dear MACUL Conference Attendees,

Hello and welcome everyone! We are excited to bring the 42nd MACUL conference to you in Grand Rapids, a city that will surprise and delight you. This year’s conference theme is Think, Create and Inspire. The conference speakers will get you thinking about how you can bring creation into your classroom and inspire your students. Whether you are an experienced conference attendee or a newbie, we think you’ll find something useful in our lineup of sessions and activities. The conference starts off Wednesday with a day of great pre-conference sessions hosted by our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as well as a few unique offering for this year. These sessions are a half or full day. Please be sure to check them out to extend your learning op- portunities. In addition to our fabulous keynote, featured, and session speakers, we have several other opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. Consider attending one of these events as well: • Expanded Makerspace (opens after the Keynotes on Thursday and Friday) • Student Technology Showcase (Thursday 11:00 AM-1:00 PM) • MACUL Annual meeting (Thursday 5:15 PM in in Grand Gallery C in DeVos) • MACUL Reception (Thursday 7:00 PM at Grand Rapids Brewing Co.) • Posters - another way to learn from peers (Friday 10:30 AM-1:00 PM) • Learning Labs (25 minute presentations on hot products from our vendors) • GooseChase online activity (win some great prizes if you play) This seems like there’s a LOT going on, and there is! To keep track of everything please consider using the MACUL 2018 Conference app. Simply search for MyEventPlan in the Apple or Google Play app stores, download, and install. You will be able to search through sessions, create a schedule, locate session rooms, and more. Feel free to also check out the information on the conference website maculconference.org. The MACUL conference is one of the largest educational technology conferences in the US and the largest educational conference in Michigan. It takes the work and dedication of a lot of great individu- als to put everything together. I’d like to thank Conference Chair Ron Houtman for his continued lead- ership, MACUL Executive Director Mark Smith, MACUL staff, Board of Directors, and SIG Leadership, Chris Garrett and Diane Henderson of G&H Events, and all of the volunteers that keep us all moving in the right direction. And thanks to YOU for attending and supporting us! We love to hear your feedback so that we can continue to improve and grow. Hope you connect, learn a few new things, and have a great conference!

David Prindle, President Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL)

Be a Good Network Neighbor MACUL is working hard to provide a robust network for conference attendees. But we need your help. Here’s what you can do:

1. Connect one device at a time: While you may have multiple wireless devices, please only connect one at a time to the network and take a moment to disconnect when you switch to a different device.

2. Don’t set up your own network: When things get slow, it is tempting to use a wifi hub to set up a network. Please avoid the temptation as your mini-network interferes with the larger network.

3. Wait to download and stream: The network is meant for conference-related usage such as checking the online program or chatting on the backchannel. Please resist the urge to download large files or stream movies during conference hours.

Thanks for your help!

Be sure to get one of the special ribbons from a Tech Support person to let others know that you are a good network neighbor!

58

MACUL thanks the 100 plus volunteers who helped to make this conference the best ever!

Please be sure to thank them when you see them wearing their MACUL Volunteer shirts.

Want to volunteer next year? Be sure to sign up when registering for MACUL 2019 in Detroit on March 20-22.
