$150,000 Matt Winn (Grade III) 22nd Running – Saturday, June 15, 2019 (Spring Meet) 3-Year-Olds at 1 1/16 Miles on Dirt at Churchill Downs Stakes Record – 1:41.12, Gun Runner (2017) Name Origin: The Matt Winn was named in honor of the famed Churchill Downs president that served as the driving force in the development of the Downs and his beloved Kentucky Derby. Winn, who will be inducted into the National Musueum of Racing’s Hall of Fame as a “Pillar of the Turf” on Aug. 4, 2017, was a tireless promoter of the Derby, America’s classic race for 3-year-olds. Winn was an innovative leader and initiated Derby traditions ranging from the Derby mint julep glasses to the singing of “My Old Kentucky Home” and the handmade Kentucky Derby trophy. It was first showcased in prime time and under the lights on Stephen Foster Handicap Night in conjunction with the track’s popular Downs After Dark nighttime racing series in 2012.
