Updated on June 28, 2013, this fact sheet provides information on the FIVB and the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball season. The 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar will feature FIVB-record ten events along with the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland. The FIVB has also launched a new initiative in 2013 which includes seven Open events spread throughout the world to help open the door for development of the sport. The schedule starts in April in and concludes in December in . 2013 marks the 26th anniversary of the first FIVB Beach Volleyball event held February 17-22 in Rio de Janeiro, .

· July 1-7, Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013, Men and Women, $1,000,000 – Stare Jablonki is hosting an FIVB Beach Volleyball event for the tenth-straight time. The event will be held at Hotel Anders. Poland has hosted 21 previous FIVB World Tour/Open events, seven men’s, four women’s, and five double-gender. Host country Poland has won only one medal on its country’s soil, a silver medal in 2011.

· Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 starts July 1 and concludes July 8. The winning teams in each gender will share the $60,000 first-place prizes. · The Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 will be the 251st women’s event and 289th men’s event on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour (open, grand slam, Olympic and Goodwill). The first men’s FIVB World Tour event was played February 17-22, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the first women’s event was played August 14-16, 1992 at Almeria, Spain.

Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 After the Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013, the FIVB World Tour will continue swing through Europe with the Gstaad Grand Slam from July 9-14 before moving to the United States for the Long Beach Grand Slam from July 22-27. During the same time, the U19 World Championships will be played in Porto, from July 11-14 and an Open event will be played in Anapa, Russia from July 23-28.

2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball Season Men’s & Women’s Highlights The 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar will feature FIVB-record 10 Grand Slam events along with the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland. The FIVB has also launched a new initiative in 2013 which includes seven Open events spread throughout the world to help open the door for development of the sport. The schedule starts in April and concludes in December. 2013 marks the 26th anniversary of the first FIVB Beach Volleyball event held February 17-22 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The gold medal was won by USA’s Sinjin Smith/Randy Stoklos. The men’s world tour began in 1989, the women’s in 1992. Smith/Stoklos were the champions of the inaugural season in 1989-90. · The international Beach Volleyball circuit will visit 18 sites in 15 countries over a nine month period. · With the 2013 calendar featuring 17 women’s and 15 men’s events within the African, Asian, European and South American confederations, the FIVB international calendar will offer US$6.76 million in prize money, including $5.4 million on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. · All 10 FIVB World Tour Grand Slam events will be combined events for women and men. Five of the FIVB Open events will be double-gender and two will be women-only. · Women’s-only Open tournaments will be in China (Xiamen) and Thailand (Phuket). · The new Grand Slam events this year will be in Argentina (Corrientes), Netherlands (The Hague), USA (Long Beach, Calif.), and Brazil (Sao Paulo). · The $4.4 million FIVB World Tour Grand Slam series will also return to 2012 venues in China (Shanghai), Italy (Rome), Switzerland (Gstaad), Germany (Berlin), Russia (Moscow) and China (Beijing). · Gstaad has staged 12 FIVB-sanctioned Beach Volleyball events. Gstaad hosted the FIVB World Championships in 2007. · Poland (Stare Jablonki) is hosting the $1 million FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships for the first time. Stare Jablonki has hosted nine men’s and five women’s FIVB World Tour events including several Grand Slam events. · The opening event on the 2013 FIVB World Tour calendar for the first time in tour history will be the double-gender Shanghai Grand Slam April 30-May 5. The first FIVB Open event will be the Open on April 23-28 as China host four FIVB international tournaments in 2013, including a second FIVB World Tour Grand Slam in Beijing on Oct. 6-9. · The 2013 FIVB World Tour Grand Slam series will conclude in Brazil (Sao Paulo) on Oct. 9-13. The FIVB Open schedule will end with in South Africa (Durban Open) with a double gender event on Dec. 11-15. · For the first time in beach volleyball history, the international Beach Volleyball calendar will also feature FIVB world championships for players under the age of 23, under the age of 21 and under the age of 19. FIVB age-group worlds for U-21 and U-19 have been held for over a decade, but 2013 will be the first for U-23. Myslowice, Poland will host the 2013 FIVB U-23 World Championships June 6-9, while Umag, Croatia will host the FIVB U-21 World Championships June 20-23 and Porto, Portugal will host the 2013 FIVB U-19 World Championships July 11-14 for players under the age of 19. · Brazil (Campinas) will host the inaugural FIVB World Cup Final that involved all FIVB confederations, May 29-June 2. · IMG Sports Media will continue to have the exclusive distribution media rights for the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. For the fourth straight year, the tour will exclusively use the Mikasa VLS 300 ball. It was introduced in 2009.

2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Men’s & Women’s Highlights & Results The 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar is highlighted by an FIVB-record eight Grand Slam events along with the 2012 London Olympics as the international Beach Volleyball schedule starts in April and concludes in October. 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the first FIVB Beach Volleyball event held February 17-22 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The gold medal was won by USA’s Sinjin Smith/Randy Stoklos. The men’s world tour began in 1989, the women’s in 1992. Smith/Stoklos were the champions of the inaugural season in 1989-90. · In 2012, international beach volleyball events will visit 17 sites in 14 countries over a seventh-month period. · With the 2012 world tour calendar featuring 12 women’s and 11 men’s events within the African, Asian, European and South American confederations, the FIVB World Tour will offer US$6.12 million in prize money. · Nine of the tournaments were combined men’s and women’s events, including all eight Grand Slam stops. · Women’s-only stops will be in China (), Finland (Aland) and Thailand (Bang Saen). · Men’s only stops were in Poland (Myslowice) and Czech Republic (Prague). · The new Grand Slam event this year was in China (Shanghai). · The $4.8 million FIVB World Tour Grand Slam series also returned to 2011 venues in China (Beijing), Russia (Moscow), Italy (Rome), Switzerland (Gstaad), Austria (Klagenfurt) and Poland (Stare Jablonki). The tour also returned for the first time since 2008 to Germany (Berlin). · Klagenfurt and Gstaad have each staged 10 or more FIVB-sanctioned Beach Volleyball events. Both sites have hosted the FIVB World Championships with Klagenfurt in 2001 and Gstaad in 2007. · The opening event on the 2012 FIVB World Tour calendar was a double gender event in Brasília April 15-22 as the Brazilian capital celebrated its 52nd anniversary on the seventh day of competition. During the April 21 Brasília celebrations, crowds of more than 1-million attended various holiday activities around the event. · The iconic Horse Guards Parade in central London was the site of the London 2012 which ran from July 28 through August 9. USA’s Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh won their third consecutive Olympic gold medal with USA’s Jennifer Kessy/April Ross earning the silver medal. A special Olympic test event for 24 women’s teams was held on the site in August of 2011with Brazil’s Liliane Maestrini/Angela Vieira defeating USA’s Kessy/Ross in the gold medal match. · A total of 16 teams from each gender out of the 24 teams participating in the 2012 London Olympics, qualified through qualification rankings from the FIVB World Tour. · China once again staged three and Poland presented two FIVB World Tour stops in 2012. · The men’s international schedule concluded in August in Poland (Stare Jablonki) while the women’s competition will end in late October in Thailand (Bang Saen). · The international beach volleyball calendar also features world championships for players under the age of 21 and under the age of 19. Larnaca, Cyprus hosted the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships July 11-14 for players under the age of 19. For the second consecutive year, Canada will host in Halifax, Nova Scotia Aug. 29-Sept. 2 the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Junior World Championships for players under the age of 21. This was the first time for Cyprus to host one of these age group FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. The U-19 world championships in 2011 were held in Umag, Croatia before Canada hosted the U-21s in Halifax. · IMG Sports Media continues to have the exclusive distribution media rights for the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. For the third straight year, the tour has exclusively used the Mikasa VLS 300 ball. It was introduced in 2009 in October and November at events in Sanya and Phuket.
