Passenger Information During Snow Disruption December 2010
Passenger information during snow disruption December 2010 A Rail passenger Information during snow disruption December 2010 Headline Findings 1. The National Rail Enquiries (NRE) website appears to have coped well with very high volumes 2. The online real time journey planner on the NRE website did not show correct information for some train operating companies (TOCs) 3. The online journey planners on TOC and third-party websites did not generally reflect the contingency timetables in operation 4. Tickets continued to be available for sale online for many trains that would not run 5. Station displays appear to have reflected formal contingency timetables, except for Southeastern 6. Station displays and online Live Departure Boards did not always keep pace with events 7. The NRE call centres appear to have provided good information, but queuing times of 11 or 12 minutes were common. 1 The National Rail Enquiries appears to have coped well with very high volumes We saw no evidence that the NRE website crashed or was slower than usual, despite a large spike in volume (Chris Scoggins reported that the volume on 2 December was twice the previous record peak on 7 January 2010). 2 The online real time journey planner on the NRE website did not show correct information for some train operating companies NRE had to advise passengers not to use the journey planner for enquiries about East Coast, Southeastern and South West Trains. This was a significant failure, with three scenarios: 2a Although the journey planner showed services from a contingency timetable for East Coast on 1 and 2 December, it also showed services from the base timetable that were no longer running. -

Racing, Region, and the Environment: a History of American Motorsports
RACING, REGION, AND THE ENVIRONMENT: A HISTORY OF AMERICAN MOTORSPORTS By DANIEL J. SIMONE A DISSERTATION PRESENTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 2009 1 © 2009 Daniel J. Simone 2 To Michael and Tessa 3 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS A driver fails without the support of a solid team, and I thank my friends, who supported me lap-after-lap. I learned a great deal from my advisor Jack Davis, who when he was not providing helpful feedback on my work, was always willing to toss the baseball around in the park. I must also thank committee members Sean Adams, Betty Smocovitis, Stephen Perz, Paul Ortiz, and Richard Crepeau as well as University of Florida faculty members Michael Bowen, Juliana Barr, Stephen Noll, Joseph Spillane, and Bill Link. I respect them very much and enjoyed working with them during my time in Gainesville. I also owe many thanks to Dr. Julian Pleasants, Director Emeritus of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program, and I could not have finished my project without the encouragement provided by Roberta Peacock. I also thank the staff of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program. Finally, I will always be grateful for the support of David Danbom, Claire Strom, Jim Norris, Mark Harvey, and Larry Peterson, my former mentors at North Dakota State University. A call must go out to Tom Schmeh at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, Suzanne Wise at the Appalachian State University Stock Car Collection, Mark Steigerwald and Bill Green at the International Motor Racing Resource Center in Watkins Glen, New York, and Joanna Schroeder at the (former) Ethanol Promotion and Information Council (EPIC). -

Covering representations of U(sl(2)), quantum sl(2), the quantum trace and color representations, and the Turaev-Viro invariant, this work is useful to graduate students and professionals. In particular, its inter-disciplinary focus on key themes in the social sciences - the state, citizenship, the meaning and scope of government - will make it essential reading for students of political science, sociology, anthropology, geography, policy studies and public administration. WORLD LONGTRACK FINALS 1971 – 1996 Tracy Holmes
WORLD LONGTRACK FINALS 1971 – 1996 Tracy Holmes Pre 1971 Before we look at the first World Longtrack Final in 1971, we must take a peek at its prototype, the European Final. The first of these was held in 1957 and won by the Norwegian legend Leif "Basse" Hveem. The term 'legend' is often thrown about like confetti but in this case, it is well earned ! The next 3 Finals were all won by West Germany's Josef Hofmeister. No-one was ever able to achieve the 'Triple Crown' in the World Finals, but 2 riders did it in its forerunner. Hofmeister was joined by another West German, Manfred Poschenrieder winning in '66, '67 and '68. The closest anyone got in the World Final was England's Simon Wigg who won the Finals of '93 and '94, only to be beaten in the Gold Medal run-off in '95 by his England team-mate, Kelvin Tatum! Swedish riders excelled in the Euro Finals, 1954 World Speedway Final bronze medalist, Olle Nygren took the bronze in the '59 Final. Ove Fundin, reigning World Speedway Champion at the time, was 2nd in the '61 Final behind Timo Laine of Finland. Just over a week later, Fundin won his 3rd World Speedway Final. Bertil Strid was Sweden's first Euro Champion, winning the Finals of '62 and '63. The Swedes were interupted in '64 by Denmark's Kurt W. Petersen. On the 12th of September 1965, Swedish star Bjorn Knutson won the Euro Final. A week later, he won the World Speedway Final as well. -
