Published with open access at www.questjournals.org ABSTRACT: We present a new model for the human psyche in this paper. We support the thinkers from Philosophy of Science that believe that we should keep the theory that best explains our phenomena, and, therefore, we believe that we should keep the theory we here present for the human psyche. We present evidences as to why our theory explains the human psyche better than the Freudian and the Jungian theories. We include all concepts created by Jung and Freud in our theory apart from the collective unconscious. We introduce the elements extended id and extended ego in terms of human personality and the elements judgmental, non-judgmental, shared, and non-shared in terms of human mind. -

Reed’s concept of politerature as a means to read fiction with a mind towards its utilization in social justice movements for the mentally ill. Through the lens of the Freudian uncanny, Johan Galtung’s three-tiered systems of violence, and Gaston Bachelard’s conception of spatiality, this dissertation examines four novels as case studies for a new way of reading the literature of madness. Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House unveils the accusation of female madness that lay at the heart of a woman’s dissatisfaction with domestic space in the 1950s, while Dennis Lehane’s Shutter Island offers a more complicated illustration of both post-traumatic stress syndrome and post-partum depression. Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain and Curtis White’s America Magic Mountain challenge our socially- accepted dichotomy of reason and madness whereby their antagonists give up success in favor of isolation and illness. While these texts span chronology and geography, each can be read in a way that allows us to become more empathetic to the mentally ill and reduce stigma in order to effect change. -

ISSN 2453-8035 Abstract: The article presents a method of cognitive mapping using an example of reconstruction of conceptual system of contemporary German matrimonial confrontational discourse that reproduces collective cognitive space of German matrimonial couples. The basic principle of the proposed methodology allows following up a holistic mental representation of this segment of family discourse in a statistically verified conceptual structure and the system of correlations between its elements. Introduction Present-day linguistic studies are focused on systemic organization of the individual's thinking. As Prihodko and Prykhodchenko claim, "cognitive processes in our mind are usually connected with our vision and understanding of outer world in general and our place in it in particular" (2018: 164). Mental background of any activity is reconstructed by researchers as both separate concepts containing specified knowledge, conceptual spheres, and fields united by common logical-semantic or substantive content, and conceptual systems as discursive-relevant formations of concepts representing certain relevant spaces of an individual. -

The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud, Volume XVII (1917-1919): An Infantile Neurosis and Other Works, 217-256 The ‘Uncanny’ I IT is only rarely that a psycho-analyst feels impelled to investigate the subject of aesthetics, even when aesthetics is understood to mean not merely the theory of beauty but the theory of the qualities of feeling. He works in other strata of mental life and has little to do with the subdued emotional impulses which, inhibited in their aims and dependent on a host of concurrent factors, usually furnish the material for the study of aesthetics. But it does occasionally happen that he has to interest himself in some particular province of that subject; and this province usually proves to be a rather remote one, and one which has been neglected in the specialist literature of aesthetics. The subject of the ‘uncanny’1 is a province of this kind. It is undoubtedly related to what is frightening—to what arouses dread and horror; equally certainly, too, the word is not always used in a clearly definable sense, so that it tends to coincide with what excites fear in general. Yet we may expect that a special core of feeling is present which justifies the use of a special conceptual term. One is curious to know what this common core is which allows us to distinguish as ‘uncanny’ certain things which lie within the field of what is frightening. As good as nothing is to be found upon this subject in comprehensive treatises on aesthetics, which in general prefer to concern themselves with what is beautiful, attractive and sublime—that is, with feelings of a positive nature—and with the circumstances and the objects that call them forth, rather than with the opposite feelings of repulsion and distress. -

Key Note Speakers’ Abstracts Paul Hoggett 'Shame and performativity: thoughts on the psychology of neoliberalism' Under neoliberalism performativity has become the dominant mode of regulation of the economy, of governance and of the self. Blending competition and surveillance performativity penetrates deeply into everyday life, giving rise to ‘self tracking’ cultures. The question, “Am I measuring up?” stalks us at work, in the gym and in our various roles as lovers, parents, etc. As a consequence shame becomes ubiquitous, not only in organisations and public life, but on-line, in social gatherings, even in the playground. This presentation will ask, to what extent does performativity lead to a perverse relation to reality, and what are the political consequences of this? And could shame be replacing guilt as the motive force of a new psychic economy in which the tyranny of ‘the ideal’ comes to replace that previously exercised by the super-ego? A reinterpretation of surrealism as an aesthetic methodology based in the cultivation of the unheimlich can help inform and direct an approach to museum planning and design so that modernization highlights and emphasizes the multiplicitous nature of the museum. As a staged environment that surpasses direct functionality and rationality, the surreal museum is a scripted space for the performance of cultural identity. The amalgamative development of museum buildings, the embedded typological forms, the strange relationship between displaced objects and display space, and the anxious overlaps in program make the comprehensive art museum a very complex and incredibly rich architectural space. The Cincinnati Art Museum is an exquisite corpse of a building illustrating all the qualities of the surreal museum. FINANCE TRUSTEE VACANCY APPLICATIONS INVITED TO JOIN THE BOARD OF THE FREUD MUSEUM LONDON We are looking for a member for the Board of the Freud Museum London with financial skills and expertise. This experienced and enthusiastic new Trustee will join a team providing strategic leadership to the Museum at a time of great change and development. Eligible candidates will need to be qualified accountants with a recognised ac- counting and finance qualification, as well as a proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stake- holders. Knowledge and experience of charities accounting would also be use- ful. Candidates will need to show evidence of the ability to think strategically, to review and question management reports, plans and financial information, to assess and manage risk, and to develop sound objectives moving forward to en- sure an exciting and sustainable future for the Museum. The new trustee should be willing to be involved in development and fundraising initiatives. The Freud Museum is a unique and special place, and an awareness and interest in the work of the Museum, of the lives of Sigmund and Anna Freud, and the history of psychoanalysis, would be welcome. Board meetings are held five times a year, usually on a Tuesday evening, at the Museum, or virtually. The Finance Trustee will also be a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee of the Board. Trustees are encouraged to at- tend museum events.
