Ballet West YAGP Lecture Series

The first-ever – YAGP Lecture Series will give dance students and industry professionals a unique opportunity to hear from leading members of the dance community. Professional dancers, members of Ballet West’s artistic staff, studio owners, and arts administrators will share their knowledge and experience on topics relevant to any student, teacher, or administrator. Attendees will leave the sessions prepared and inspired to move forward to the next step in their careers, with practical advice on how to approach both opportunities and obstacles.The community is welcomed to attend the Lecture Series free of charge. The Series will take place in the Capitol Room (just off the lobby of the Capitol Theater) during the YAGP Regional Competition on February 26, 27, and 28, 2016.

Friday, February 26 | 12:00 PM Pursuing a professional dance career- this panel discussion will provide attendees with insight on how to prepare their job applications for professional dance

Friday, February 26 | 4:00 PM Overcoming Adversity- this group of panelists will discuss obstacles they faced both in life and in their dance career along with offering advice to attendees on how to overcome their own obstacles. Panel: Gabi Salvatto, Elizabeth Weldon, Lucas Horns, Calvin Kitten Moderator: Sarah Taylor

Saturday, February 27 | 2:00 PM Managing Social Media- This discussion will provide advice to attendees on strategies to maximize their social media presence as well as address ways to avoid problems from social media. Panel: Beckanne Sisk, Allison DeBona, Ginamarie Marsala, Felicia Cowen Moderator: Summer Wilson

Sunday, February 28 | 10:00 AM Other Career Opportunities in the Dance Industry- Many people want to pursue a career in the dance industry after a professional dancing career or instead of a professional dancing career. This session will provide examples of options as well as advice on how to pursues those options. Panel: Peter Merz, Kim Delgrosso, Allison DeBona, Christopher Ruud, Cati Snarr Moderator: Heather Thackeray

Sunday, February 28 | 12:00 PM Higher Education and a Professional Dance Career- This panel will include a discussion of how dancers have approached obtaining a university degree in addition to having a professional dance career. Panel: Kimberly Ballard, Katie Critchlow, Jacqueline Straughan, Hannah Sterling Moderator: Peter Merz
