This year we have 19 full paper presentations, 6 research briefs, 1 workshop, 3 poster presentations, 1 invited talk, the Presidential Address, and the J. B. Rhine Banquet address. Together, these presentations comprise a total of 32 events. The program covers a wide range of topics and methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative research. We also have a considerable number of papers addressing methodological and theoretical issues of importance to the advancement of parapsychology. In summary, the program attests to the diversity and complexity of perspectives that characterize our research field. In this sense, I tried to be as eclectic as possible, letting the various approaches have their voice, as long as they respected accepted scientific and scholarly methods. I want to thank all the members of the Program Committee for their invaluable contribution in reviewing the submitted papers and collaborating to ensure that only the highest quality works were selected. I am delighted and honored to have so distinguished invited speakers accepting our invitations, including Dr. Charles Tart and Dr. Jacques Vallee; I thank them both for coming and contributing to the convention. Many thanks are also due to the many authors who contributed their work. I am ever grateful to the PA Executive Director, Annalisa Ventola, for her enormous help and assistance during the entire process, and for working so hard to bring this together along with our president and arrangements chair, Dr. Dean Radin. I also extend my gratitude to my program assistant, Ramsés D'León Macías, to Nikolaos Koumartzis for helping to create the Program and Abstracts, and to PA volunteer staff writers Jess Ferguson and Anastasia Wasko for summarizing the convention content and bringing it to the public’s eye.     "Does Paranormal Perception Occur in Near-Death Experiences?" Defended Keith Augustine, M.A. Internet Infidels, Colorado Springs, CO ABSTRACT: Four preceding commentaries present a variety of criticisms of "Does Paranormal Perception Occur in Near-Death Experiences?": that most near-death researchers do not interpret near-death experiences (NDEs) as evidence for life after death; that near-death researchers never appeal to NDE accounts incorporating predictable or uncorroborated details as evidence for veridical paranormal perception during NDEs; that reliable data contradict my critique of near-death veridicality studies; that it is unscientific to suggest a role for embellishment in NDE reports; that the patient in the Maria's shoe case reported veridical details that she could not have learned about through conventional means; and that my critique of the Pam Reynolds case amounts to an "a priori dismissal" of features suggesting veridical paranormal perception or consciousness in the absence of brain activity. I respond to each of these and other criticisms in kind. KEY WORDS: out-of-body experiences; survival hypothesis; veridical para normal perception; embellishment; anesthesia awareness. According to Bruce Greyson, my critique of near-death veridicality research - particularly my claim that the majority of near-death researchers interpret NDEs as evidence for survival after death - is founded on "unsubstantiated speculation from the popular media" rather than any scientific data or scholarly literature. In fact, the claim is an inference based on the explicit comments of prominent near-death researchers themselves, including the very researchers Keith Augustine, M.A., is Executive Director and Scholarly Paper Editor of Internet Infidels, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to defending and promoting metaphysical naturalism on the Internet.

Jackson Assistant Professor of Religion Director, Undergraduate Studies Religion HOUSTON, TEXAS April 2021 ABSTRACT The Classification of Death-Related Experiences: A Novel Approach to the Spectrum of Near-Death, Coincidental-Death, and Empathetic-Death Events by Antoinette M. von dem Hagen In 1866, Edmund Gurney, Frederic Myers and Frank Podmore published Phantasms of the Living, which included descriptions of “crisis apparitions” where someone who was dying was “seen” by someone who was unaware of this fact. Since then, the concept of Near-Death Experiences (“NDE’s”) have become an increasingly popular subject in both nonfiction works and medical research, yet little attention has been paid to crisis apparitions. Here, I argue that NDE’s and crisis apparitions—which I separate into the categories of Coincidental-Death and Empathetic-Death Experiences—contain similar phenomenological attributes. These Death- Related Experiences (“DRE’s”) thus occur along a spectrum; the empathetic relationship between the decedent and the experiencer acts as the determinative element. This definition and categorization of DRE’s is a novel concept in super normal research.

William James Center for Consciousness Studies Institute of Transpersonal Psychology Palo Alto, California, 94303 USA Psychomanteum Research 2 Abstract A Psychomanteum Process involving mirror-gazing was conducted in a research setting to explore apparent facilitated contact with deceased friends and relatives, and to collect data on the phenomena, experiences, and effects on bereavement. A pilot study with 5 participants resulted in strong experiences and 4 apparent contacts. The main study took 27 participants through a three stage process: remembering a deceased friend or relative, sitting in a darkened room gazing into a mirror while thinking of the person, and finally discussing and reflecting on the experience. Data were collected with pre- and post- questionnaires, a follow-up questionnaire at least 4 weeks after the session, interviews by the facilitators, and two personality measures, the Tellegen Absorption Scale and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Contacts with the sought person were reported by 13 participants. Participants reported that a variety of imagery appeared in the mirror, as well as experiences of dialogue, sounds, light, body sensations, and smell. Several specific messages were reported by participants who believed that they were from the sought persons. Twenty-one self report items relating to bereavement were analyzed for changes between pre- and follow-up questionnaires. Statistically significant reductions in bereavement responses occurred over the entire group using a Wilcoxon signed ranks analysis (p = .05 to .0008).

Alcock Parapsychology, once the despised outcast of a materialistic- forces, which are said to lie beyond the realm of ordinary ally oriented orthodoxy, may now claim pride of place among nature, at least insofar as it is known by modern science, has the spiritual sciences, for it was parapsychology which not been an easy one. Sep. 2021 INVESTIGATING PRECOGNITIVE DREAMING PRECOGNITIVE DREAMING: INVESTIGATING ANOMALOUS COGNITION AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS1 BY CAROLINE WATT ABSTRACT: This online dream precognition study examined variables, both psychological and parapsychological, that have been proposed to contribute to precognitive dream experiences. 50 participants each contributed four trials, where the task was to dream about a video clip that they would later view. Independent judges were used to score the correspondence between dreams and the target pool. No support was found for the hypothesis that individuals who are intolerant of ambiguity would report greater correspondence between their dreams and subsequently viewed target video clips.
