WHITEHORSE, YUKON FEB. 24 – MARCH 2 , 2007 DU 24 FEVRIER AU 2 MARS 2007 3 MEN’S HOCKEY OVERVIEW February 24 – March 2, 2007 Takhini Arena & Canada Winter Games Centre – Whitehorse, Yukon FORMAT Four pools of three teams each. Each team plays two round-robin games, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the Qualifying Round. The four non-qualifying teams move on to a round-robin format for placing from 9th to 12th. The eight teams in the Qualifying Round will be re-seeded based on their initial seedings. The Qualifying Round starts with Team 1 playing Team 8, Team 2 versus Team 7 and so on. The winners advance to the semifinals and the losers will play a round-robin for placing 5th to 8th. The four teams moving on to the semis will be re-seeded, with Team 1 playing Team 4 and Team 2 taking on Team 3. The winners play for gold and the losers play for bronze. During the preliminary round, wins are worth 2 points and ties are worth one point. In the subsequent games, if a game is tied at the end of regulation, a 10-minute overtime will be played. If the score is still tied, there will be a shootout starting with five players aside. Gold medal game: If the score is tied at the end of regulation and a 10-minute overtime period, teams will play 20-minute overtime periods until either side scores. POOLS (numbers in parentheses indicate team’s finish at 2003 Canada Winter Games) A – Alberta (1), Saskatchewan (5), Northwest Territories (12) B – Quebec (2), Nova Scotia (6), Yukon (11) C – Ontario (3), Manitoba (7), Prince Edward Island (10) D – British Columbia (4), New Brunswick (8), Newfoundland & Labrador (9) Age of athletes: Players who are under 17 years of age as of December 31, 2006 are eligible. Year of Birth: 1990-1994 inclusive Teams: Maximum of 20 players The Canada Winter Games are held every four years. The men’s hockey event is held at the CWG in place of the World Men’s Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The Under-17 Challenge is part of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence and is held during non- Canada Winter Games years. The 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge runs from December 29th, 2007 to January 4th, 2008 in London, ON and surrounding communities. WHITEHORSE, YUKON FEB. 24 – MARCH 2 , 2007 DU 24 FEVRIER AU 2 MARS 2007 4 VUE D’ENSEMBLE DU HOCKEY MASCULIN Du 24 février au 2 mars 2007 Aréna Takhini et Centre des Jeux d’hiver du Canada – Whitehorse, Yukon STRUCTURE Quatre groupes de trois équipes chacun. Chaque équipe prend part à deux matchs en ronde préliminaire et les deux meilleures équipes de chaque groupe accèdent à la ronde de qualification. Les quatre équipes non qualifiées passent à la ronde de relégation pour déterminer la 9e à la 12e place. Les huit équipes prenant part à la ronde de qualification seront reclassées selon les résultats de la ronde préliminaire. Pour amorcer la ronde de qualification, l’équipe 1 affronte l’équipe 8, l’équipe 2 affronte l’équipe 7 et ainsi de suite. Les équipes gagnantes accèdent aux demi-finales tandis que les perdantes participent à un tournoi à la ronde pour déterminer la 5e à la 8e place.

As part of the Canada Games Council’s (CGC) alumni engagement initiatives, the CGC is working to engage all past Canada Games Host Communities in the celebration of the upcoming Canada Games. The official Canada Games flag, to be flown at the Opening Ceremonies in Halifax on February 11, 2011, will be with each past Canada Games Host Community for a total of three days before being sent to the next community, similar to Halifax’s Provincial Torch Relay. “This is an excellent opportunity to unite all Canadians in the celebration that is the Canada Games,” says Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council. “Past hosts will be able to show their involvement and pride with the Canada Games and show off the legacy the Games has left in their community while spreading the excitement for the 2011 Games.” A map of Canada will be created on the CGC’s website so the public can view the location of the flag with photos, stories, quotes and videos provided by each community of their time with the flag.

It will be the first time in the history of the Games that they will be hosted in a Territory. The City of Whitehorse and the Yukon is well on their way to organizing a historic and successful Games on Vision Statement behalf of our country. Yukon people are proud to be hosting the 2007 Canada Winter Our goal as Team Ontario is to provide each and every one of our athletes, coaches Games, celebrating excellence, our northern cultures and traditions, and managers with an incredible experience at the Games. The team is very enthusiastic and motivated to make these Games a Synchro Swim Ontario 3 announces 2007 CWG team valuable and memorable experience for all. We are currently exploring the possibility of hosting a Team Ontario training camp New lottery helps Team 4 where all sports can come together for mandatory training, such as Ontario’s “Quest for Gold” drug free sport, human rights and media training sessions.
