4 Frequent Transit Network (FTN)

• The FTN will provide frequent and reliable service along key corridors in the urban areas of the Region

• A network operating at a 15-minute frequency (or better) all day, seven days a week

• Initial phase includes 15-minute service during weekday rush hours only

Proposed Service Changes: Existing Routing • As per the FTN, improve frequency during morning and afternoon rush hours

Impacts/Improvements: • Morning rush hour frequency improved from 23 to approximately 18 minutes • Afternoon rush hour frequency improved from 29 to approximately 24 minutes

Route 3 – Thornhill

Proposed Service Changes: Existing Routing • As per the FTN, improve frequency during morning and afternoon rush hours

Impacts/Improvements: • Morning and afternoon rush hour frequency improved from 30 to approximately 25 minutes • Improved service between Promenade Terminal and Pioneer Village Terminal

Route 16 – 16th Avenue

Proposed Service Changes: Existing Routing • As per the FTN, improve frequency during morning and afternoon rush hours

Impacts/Improvements: • Morning and afternoon rush hour frequency improved from 30 to approximately 24 minutes

Existing Routing Route 20/20B – Jane (NEW)

Proposed Service Changes: January: • Improve frequency on weekends/holidays to address overcrowding December: • Restructure Route 20 – Jane to operate into the new Major Mackenzie and Jane Street Terminal • Introduce a new Route 20B – Jane branch operating from Pioneer Village Terminal to the new Major Mackenzie and Jane Street Terminal during weekday midday, Saturdays and Sunday/holidays

Impacts/Improvements: Weekday: December: • Rush hour frequency maintained at approximately 14 minutes • Non-rush hour frequency south of Major Mackenzie Drive maintained at approximately 21 minutes • Non-rush hour north of Major Mackenzie Drive adjusted from approximately 20 to approximately 35 minutes

Route 20/20B – Jane (NEW) Proposed Routing Impacts/Improvements: Saturday: January: • Frequency improved from approximately 18 to approximately 14 minutes (12 minutes during the summer to accommodate seasonal demand)

December: • Frequency south of Major Mackenzie Drive improved from approximately 18 to approximately 15 minutes • Frequency north of Major Mackenzie Drive adjusted from approximately 18 to approximately 30 minutes

Sunday/Holiday: January: • Frequency improved from approximately 18 to approximately 17 minutes (14 minutes during the summer to accommodate seasonal demand)

December: • Frequency south of Major Mackenzie Drive improved from approximately 18 to approximately 16 minutes • Frequency north of Major Mackenzie Drive adjusted from approximately 18 to approximately 33 minutes

Proposed Service Changes: • Discontinue limited service in early morning and late evening between Pefferlaw and Sutton due to low ridership • As per the FTN, improve frequency during morning and afternoon rush hours

Impacts/Improvements: • Morning and afternoon rush hour frequency improved from 35 to approximately 29 minutes • Improved connections with On-Demand North Proposed Routing • Approximately two passenger trips in Pefferlaw impacted in the morning

Route 88/88B – Bathurst (NEW) Existing Routing Proposed Routing Proposed Service Changes: • As per the FTN, improve frequency during morning and afternoon rush hours and Saturdays • Introduce a new Route 88B – Bathurst branch operating between Finch GO Bus Terminal and Newmarket GO Bus Terminal during morning and afternoon rush hours

Impacts/Improvements: • Provide service to new subdivisions near Davis Drive and Bathurst Street • Provide connections to Town of Aurora • Route 88B branch to/from Newmarket frequency approximately 60 minutes • Saturday frequency improved from 36 to approximately 29 minutes

14 2019-2022 Budget Reductions

Route 15 – Stouffville & Dial-a-Ride Stouffville Existing Routing Proposed Service Changes: • Discontinue weekday conventional service and weekend Dial-a-Ride service due to low ridership Impacts/Improvements: • Approximately 34 passenger trips impacted on weekdays • Approximately 2 to 4 passenger trips impacted on Saturdays and Sunday/holidays • Alternative transit options include Route 9 – 9th Line on weekdays and GO Bus Route 70/71 – Stouffville • Walking distance increased by approximately 1,000 metres • Passengers along Stouffville Road between Highway 48 and will have no public transit options Existing Dial-a-Ride Service Implementation Date: • January 2020 Annual Savings: • Hours: 3,310 • Savings: $248,276 • Fleet: 1 (rush hour) Net Cost per Passenger - Fall 2018: • Rush Hour: $33.86 • Saturday: $119.80 • Sunday/Holiday: $122.55 15 2019-2022 Budget Reductions

Impacts/Improvements: • Approximately 62 passenger trips impacted • Maximum walking distance increased by approximately 4,000 metres • Alternative transit options include Route 88 – Bathurst, or Dial-a-Ride Aurora and Oak Ridges, as well as the proposed Route 96 – Keele-Yonge Saturday service

Impacts/Improvements: • Combined frequency on Newmarket and Bernard branches improved: – Early morning from 7.5 to 7 minutes – Morning rush from 7.5 to 7 minutes – Midday from 9 to 8 minutes – Afternoon rush from 7.5 to 6.5 minutes – Early evening from 18 to 16 minutes

20 Viva Service Changes

Existing Routing

Proposed Service Changes: • Extend weekend/holiday service from Pine Valley Drive to Martin Grove Road once the Highway 7 West rapidway opens

Impacts/Improvements: • Frequency improved from 20 to approximately 18 minutes • Improved service west of Pine Valley Drive • Approximately 1,602 passenger trips on Proposed Routing Saturdays and 904 passenger trips on Sundays/holidays • Alternative transit options include Route 77 – Highway 7 and Brampton Transit Route 501 – Züm Queen

Existing Routing Route 4/4A – Major Mackenzie

Proposed Service Changes: • Renumber Route 4A to Route 4 • Eliminate branch to/from Mills Terminal • Improve frequency between Pine Valley Drive and Jane Street • Restructure service to the new Major Mackenzie and Jane Street Terminal

Impacts/Improvements: • Frequency adjusted: Proposed Routing – Non-rush hour from 18 to 20 minutes – Saturday from 27 to 30 minutes – Sunday/holiday from 25 to 28 minutes • Rush hour frequency improved from 28 minutes to 14 minutes between Pine Valley Drive and Jane Street • Travellers required to transfer at the new Major Mackenzie and Jane Street Terminal to travel to/from services along Jane Street

Existing Routing Route 77A – Highway 7

Proposed Service Changes: • Discontinue service on Route 77A – Highway 7 once the Highway 7 West rapidway construction is complete

Impacts/Improvements: • Approximately 700 passenger trips impacted • Alternative options include Route 77 – Highway 7, Viva blue and Viva orange • Approximately 15 minutes additional travel time • Maximum walking distance increased by Proposed Routing approximately 700 metres

Existing Routing Route 85/85C – Rutherford

Proposed Service Changes: • Eliminate Route 85C branch • Improve frequency between Napa Valley Avenue and Terminal • Eliminate double-looping around Napa Valley Avenue during afternoon and evenings • Service Rutherford GO Station on-street once the station improvements are complete Impacts/Improvements: • Rush hour frequency improved from 30 minutes to 15 minutes between Napa Proposed Routing Valley Avenue and Vaughan Mills Terminal • Early morning frequency adjusted from 15 minutes to 19 minutes • Midday frequency adjusted from 15 minutes to 19 minutes • Early evening frequency adjusted from 15 minutes to 19 minutes • Break connections with Route 16 – 16th Avenue at Yonge Street

Route 105 – Dufferin Existing Routing Proposed Routing

Proposed Service Changes: • Extend weekday service to Maple GO Station • Provide two alternating branched services: – Branch 1: along Dufferin Street and Major Mackenzie Drive – Branch 2: along Confederation Parkway and Peter Rupert Avenue Impacts/Improvements: • Two-way service on Dufferin Street, Peter Rupert Avenue and Confederation Parkway • Rush hour frequency on Dufferin Street south of Confederation Parkway maintained • Rush hour frequency north of Confederation Parkway adjusted from 16 minutes to approximately 32 minutes • Non-rush hour frequency adjusted from 20 to approximately 26 minutes

Route 303 – Bur Oak Express

Proposed Service Changes: Existing Routing • Add one additional trip in the afternoon to accommodate increased demand

Route 305 – Copper Creek Express (NEW)

Proposed Service Changes: Proposed Routing • Introduce new express service in Markham, south of Highway 407

Impacts/Improvements: • New direct, express service in the Box Grove area to/from Finch GO Bus Terminal • Morning and afternoon rush hour frequency approximately 30 minutes

Route 402 – Bur Oak/Pierre Elliott Trudeau School Special

Proposed Service Changes: Existing Routing • Discontinue one of the two trips in the morning due to low ridership and student migration to Bill Hogarth Secondary School

Impacts/Improvements: • No impact to passengers • Alternative service includes Route 402 – Bur Oak/Pierre Elliot Trudeau Secondary School and Route 18 – Bur Oak Implementation Date: • September 2019

Proposed Changes: • Restructure service to the new Major Mackenzie and Jane Street Terminal

Proposed Service Change: • As per the On-Demand Strategy, implement “addressed-curb-to-fixed-route” On-Demand service in the Town of Newmarket Proposed Service Area Impacts/Improvements: • Improve cost-efficiency by implementing an On-Demand service using smaller vehicles • Service to new subdivisions within the boundaries of St. John’s Sideroad, Highway 404, Green Lane and Bathurst Street • Pick-up and drop-off at a curbed address (home or business) with connections to the closest operating route or an identified fixed address destination • Rides can be booked and tracked using a mobile device • Assess the discontinuation of complementing fixed-route services

Proposed Service Changes: • Pending the success of the On-Demand Aurora GO pilot, implement an “addressed-curb-to-fixed-route” On-Demand service from the community of Sharon to East Gwillimbury GO Station

Impacts/Improvements: • Improve cost-efficiency by implementing an On-Demand service using smaller vehicles • Pick-up and drop-off at a curbed address (home or business) with connections to East Gwillimbury GO Station • Rides can be booked and tracked using a mobile device • Assess the restructure of complementing fixed-route services
