I just finished Dan Smith’s column from May 3 on the shade tree mechanic. Just wanted to say that brought up some fond memories of when I was a kid of taking my car over to Roy Hood. Why do we celebrate Mother’s Day? It may come as a surprise to some that the tradition of “Mother’s Day” springs from the ancient celebration of goddesses and symbols of motherhood. In more modern times, the English began “Mothering Day” on a Lenten Sunday and allowed breaking the Lenten fast with a family dinner, cakes and gifts.
