Synopsis The Avengers movie is based on one of Marvel Comics best sellers. The story brings together other superheroes and comic book characters to become one team under super-leader Nick Fury. The group are assembled to fight a battle which they alone can win for humanity. Despite their various differences, the Hulk, Ironman and Captain America along with the others come together to form The Avengers. The bad guy in this Movie is Thor's brother Loki, who comes to earth with a plan to conquer its inhabitants and steal an elusive object. The threat is greater than the earth has seen before and its fate in the hands of a special group of people bought together under one banner. Will they come together and defeat the evil which faces the earth? Movie Quotes Nick Fury: There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could... Steve Rogers: All right, listen up! Until we can close that portal up there, what we need is containment. Barton: I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark: you've got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash. Thor: you've gotta try and bottleneck that portal, slow them down. You've got the lightning - light the bastards up! Tony Stark: Let's do a head count here: your brother the demi-god; a super soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breath-taking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins, and YOU, big fella, you've managed to piss off every single one of them. Loki: Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity, that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power, for identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel. Tony Stark: Yeah. That's just a preview, this will be opening night. Loki's a full-tilt diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades, he wants a monument built in the skies with his name plastered... Bruce Banner: In case you needed to kill me, but you can't! I know! I tried!... I got low. I didn't see an end, so I put a bullet in my mouth... and the other guy spit it out! So I moved on. I focused on helping other people. I was good, until you dragged me back into this freak show and put everyone here at risk! Nick Fury: How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control. You talk about peace and you kill 'cause it's fun. You have made me VERY desperate. You might not be glad that you did. The Avengers Leadership Movie: Leadership Development Lessons This movie is packed full of takeaway leadership lessons. I would strongly suggest using this movie in a team-building environment due to its high-quality movieness and leadership scenarios. We want to focus in on team-dynamics due to the central theme picked up whilst watching this movie was that of diversity among community. The Avengers Leadership movie is basically about teamwork! 1. Don't be afraid of diversity and individuality. Although you may not have to control the Hulk, you may have someone who has an anger problem! You may not have to bring Ironman into line, but you may have to work with a egotistical team-mate. The truth really is that every team will have all sorts of people involved, you as a leader shouldn't be overwhelmed by this but excited for a new challenge and adventure ahead! 2. Use peoples strengths rather than forcing them into relying on weaknesses. I once listened to a talk on playing to your strengths which basically summed this up by saying that you should rely on the strengths you bring to the table. All of the Avengers had particular abilities and when they were all bought together that's all they could give. Find your teams strengths and allow them to play a part in which they can use them as foundations to bring better success all around. 3. Be willing to put things aside in times of difficulty. I love the moment in the Avengers leadership movie when they're all sat around arguing about conspiracies, differences and cultural confrontations. They think that Nick Fury has a bad agenda and they're not sure whether what they're doing is right or not and suddenly the ship gets attached and none of that matters anymore. It's ok to talk and confront each other, its even healthy! but when something needs to get done the team need to put aside their differences and come together to achieve the goals and find the ultimate success of every team. is an absolutely amazing movie! Movie favorites Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, along with Black Widow and Hawkeye, are forced to join forces to battle the evil Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. Loki and his alien forces who have stolen a device called the tesseract which gives its owner unlimited power. In our heroes’ effort to save the world, the movie teaches us several important leadership lessons. 1. Engage Young People – Arriving early to get a good seat, I watched First Look which is a 20 minute entertainment program shown prior to the previews. What I noticed about this specific First Look is that it contained two commercials linking children to the Avengers franchise through toys and apps. Successful franchises and churches create raving fans at an early age. 2. Churches Should Minimize Or Completely Eliminate Announcements – The movie contained two or three too many previews. At a certain point, you are like “Can we get to the movie already!?” People do not go to church to hear announcements. Just a thought. 3. The Value Of Time – To fully engage leaders you must respect them by valuing the one commodity that cannot be replaced once it is gone, TIME. This movie does an incredible job of giving seven super-heroes adequate screen time. 4. Limit Exposure – The tesseract created a portal to another universe. The problem comes in that not only do we have access to the other universe, it has access to us. Successful leaders guard their hearts, their vision, and their organizations and limit potentially damaging exposure. 5. “Until the world ends we will act like it spins on.” – As Loki’s reign of terror was becoming a serious threat, Nick Fury played bd Samuel L. Jackson said these words to bring stability and a sense of direction. This is a best practice of all leaders during uncertain times. 6. “I am burdened with glorious purpose.” – Though misguided, Loki’s words are an accurate reflection of all leaders who have a desire to do something significant with their lives and influence. 7. “An ant has no quarrel with a boot.” – Loki reminds us that effective leaders recognize things they can control vs. things they cannot. 8. “There is only one God. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that.” – Captain America referring to Thor. He is right. There is no god like our God. 9. “War isn’t won by sentiment. It’s won by soldiers.” – Al Capone once said, “You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than a kind word alone.” Leaders understand that effective vision requires additional resources. 10. “Trying to get me back in the world?” asks Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America. “Trying to save it” responds Fury – Leaders understand that the answer to every problem is a person. 11. “Looks like Earth might need something a little old-fashioned.” – When trying times come, a return to the fundamentals is often the best course of action. 12. “It is the unspoken truth of humanity. You crave subjugation. You (humans) were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel.” – The words spoken by Loki to a group of wealthy Germans is actually true. Humans have a King that either in this life or in eternity, we will kneel to. His name is Jesus. 13. “We need a plan of attack.” – Rogers “I have a plan – ATTACK!” responds Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr. Leaders are people of action and make things happen. 14. “Your world is in the balance and you bargain for one man.” – While trying to rescue Hawkeye, Loki says these words to Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson. These words resonated with me because if I was the only person on earth, Jesus would have died for me. 15. “We’re (not) a team…We’re a time bomb.” – Leaders understand that chemistry is just as important as competence. 16. “You people are so petty…and tiny.” – Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, reminds leaders that they are rendered small when they act petty. 17. “You lack conviction.” – Leaders will ultimately fail when they do not completely own the vision they have been given. 18. Present An Urgent Need – High capacity leaders “need a push” to assemble their collective efforts. Because their time is limited, leaders must be presented with an urgent need to fully engage them. 19. Skill To Task – Because of his military background, Captain America handles all logistics and assignments when the climatic battle with alien forces takes place in New York City.
