GST) SkillsFuture Credit approved COURSE SYNOPSIS We often travel overseas to take a break from our hectic lifestyle, to enjoy the cultures, lifestyles and sceneries of foreign lands. We take photographs to share with our families and friends and to help keep the fond memories of our adventures abroad. We all aspire to take photographs that are inspiring, memorable and awesome, but this is often challenging. In “The Art of Travel Photography” course, we will teach and equip you with the necessary skill sets to take better photographs. You will learn how to capture beautiful landscape sceneries, take selfies and wefies that your friends will envy, and capture your experience into stunning photographs that will be yours and others to enjoy. It is one thing to study the theory of photography and learn how your camera works; It is quite another to put your knowledge into practice out in the field. Through this course, you will learn practical solutions to hone your camera skills for travel photography. You will also learn digital post-processing techniques which is now a necessity in modern day digital photography. The course comprises of three segments. In the first segment, you will learn about the gear that is best suited for travel photography. You will also learn to master aperture, exposure and focus settings in your camera as well as composition techniques. In the second segment, you will learn post-processing skills to transform the RAW images into beautiful photographs. In the last segment, we will go for an outdoors, hand-on morning shoot to capture scenic views during sunrise and take awesome selfies before proceeding back to the classroom post-process your photos. We will end off with a sharing and presentation session of your works. PROGRAMME OUTLINE Segment Description Time/Hours You will learn to appreciate the different styles of photography, and for travel photography you will learn about the gear that is best suited for it. You will also learn to 6:30pm – 9:30pm 1 master aperture, exposure, ISO and focus settings in your (3 hours) camera as well as composition techniques. Useful tips for travel photography will be shared too. You will learn the various techniques used for vacation photography, the best time to shoot, ideal camera settings as well as long exposure photography. You will learn different types of filters (ND, GND, Reverse GND, etc) and 6:30pm – 9:30pm 2 their applications. (3 hours) In digital post-processing, you will learn how to use Adobe Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw to transform the RAW images into beautiful works of art. We will go for an outdoor, hands-on morning shoot to capture scenic views during sunrise and early morning. You will be guided on your camera settings and composition. We 6:00am – 12.00pm 3 will then proceed back to the classroom for you to post- (6 hours) process your own photos, and will end off with a sharing and presentation session of your works. TARGET AUDIENCE General public or amateur photography enthusiasts interested in travel photography CERTIFICATION Participants will be awarded the Certificate of Attendance issued by Republic Polytechnic upon meeting 80% of attendance requirement. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Basic knowledge in handling a digital camera (DSLR or mirrorless). Basic IT skills in Windows 10. Participants are encouraged to bring their own DSLR or mirrorless cameras during the lessons, and are expected to have basic knowledge in handling their own cameras. For the outdoor session, participants MUST bring their own DSLR or mirrorless cameras, lenses, tripods and filters (optional). Computers equipped with Adobe software will be provided by RP for participants to post-process their photos captured during the outdoor shoot. TRAINER’S PROFILE An avid photographer, Fong Yew Chan has been shooting photos for the past 30 years. His passion is in travel photography as it allows him to capture the beauty and splendour of nature while he travels all over the world. Being an engineer by training, he knows how to exploit the camera to its fullest while appreciating the beauty of nature and composing it for the best shot. He enjoys capturing nature scenes which “the eye cannot see”. He is extremely proficient in digital post processing techniques and is able to transform good photos to awe-inspiring photos.
