One day it would be good to write that adult social care in the UK was well funded, efficient and effective, and that the position of vulnerable older people in society was a top political priority. However, that day has not yet come, and meanwhile Age UK Trafford, in common with other third sector organisations, continues to work in an age of funding cuts (and not just ‘real- terms’ ones, but ones where the actual number of pounds available goes down). Yet again, therefore, we have had a challenging year. However, as usual, the Charity has come through it, and is a) still here, and b) extending the range It is important to recognise that work behind the of its services. scenes also goes on. 3 Chief Executive’s Report As always its been another busy year. It has been somewhat unsettling to know that all our contracts were due to be tendered out this year, the Home Library Service, Dementia Advice Service, Information & Advice and the MAPLE Partnership. This has made budgeting somewhat of a challenge for 2019-20 but staff have somehow managed to maintain their morale and carry on regardless!

At the point of writing this report we had received extensions to MAPLE and Information and Advice until March 2020, and we won the Home Library tender again. The Dementia Advice service tender is imminent as I write, this is a crucial contract for our organisation. It’s a service which we developed and have delivered successfully since its initial Department of Health funding back in 2009 and its difficult for us to face the possibility of losing it to another organisation.

This year we have decided to take a different approach with the Annual Review, instead of a range of dry written reports, we have chosen to use mainly infographics and photos of our service delivery. We hope you like the new look and find it easier to visualise the work we do. our first weekly support group for people with the diagnosis.
