Stepping into an Indy Car for the first time during pre-season testing, Simona immediately impressed HVM team owner, Keith Wiggins, “From the first day of the first test, we knew she could drive,” said Wiggins. “The longer we worked with her, the more she impressed us. She made a lot of history in the Atlantic Championship and we expect her to make some waves in IndyCar now that she’s here.” Indy Lights: Junior Strous: Shell, Car # 6 Birthplace: The Netherlands Birth date: April 28th, 1986 Residence: Lyss, Switzerland Having won 22.6% of the races he has entered during his short career, Junior is a driver who is used to being at the front. Running just a partial season in Indy Lights in 2009, he won 2 races and was leading the Championship when budgetary constraints cut short his program. With a full time commitment with HVM for 2010, Junior is fired up to make his mark in Indy Lights and move up to Indy Cars as soon as possible. “Junior is a proven talent,” HVM team owner, Keith Wiggins comments, “He’s won races, so we know he has good skills behind the wheel. We will start him in a (Firestone Indy) Lights car and plan to do some testing with him in the big car at some point this season also. I have no doubt that with continued development he will be in an IZOD IndyCar Series car in the future.”.

I must admit, even the gumball machine looked appealing to me. It was not too long before I was informed about his latest undertaking. “I’m sorry to have kept you waiting,” he said “I was in a meeting regarding a facility we are considering for this years move.” The issue here is space to grow. He then forged right ahead and started to speak about image. “We are very concerned with appearance, which you probably would not expect from a Transportation Company.” No, I admitted I was surprised and impressed with the offices. “Quality is the image that we hope to convey with our black and gold theme. Most trucks on the road don’t look like ours.” I questioned custom- ers interpretation of this look; didn’t it appear expensive? “Our prices speak for themselves,” he replied, “and every dollar of profit goes back into the company.” For instance, a new half million dollar computer system.

    volume ten | issue three | september 2010 A word from Kevin... Hello, To say the summer has flown by is a huge understatement. It seems like only yesterday we were rolling into Daytona to start the 2010 season, and now we’re getting ready to start the Chase for the Championship. I’m happy to say that not only did we qualify for the Chase this year, but we clinched our spot four races early with a win in Michigan. I always look forward to the races that fall during the summer stretch because they tend to be some of the better ones for me and the 29 team, and this season has been no exception. We were able to win races at Daytona and Michigan and record seven top-five and eight top-10 finishes. Consistency, paired with fast race cars, has been the key to the 29 team’s success this year, and it has enabled me to lead the points for the longest consecutive span in my Cup career. I feel as ready and as confident as I ever have going into the Chase. We’ve shown we can contend for the championship; we just have to go out there and do it. Our game plan for the last 10 races is “business as usual” because that’s what got us here. I’m also pretty excited about our recent announcement that Budweiser will be my sponsor on the 29 starting in 2011. Budweiser is one of the most respected sponsors in our sport, with such a rich history, and I’m really proud that I get to add my name to the list of drivers who have represented them starting next year.

An hour earlier, she systematically completed all four phases of the indianapolis 500 Rookie Orientation Program and exited the confines of the No. 36 Conquest Racing car with a broad smile. “I really enjoyed it. It surprised me how difficult it was to stay within the limits that were set, especially toward the end when we put on our second set of tires,” said Mann, who seeks to make her IZOD IndyCar Series debut in the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500 on May 29. “I went out there and got into a rhythm really quickly because the new tires have so much grip, but was told to back it down a little. We completed all 35 laps of ROP in 35 laps so the boss (team owner Eric Bachelart) is happy. “It was a good first day, and now we can spend some time on the car and spend some time on my fit to get at it Saturday.” That’s Opening Day at the Speedway, when the seven ROP participants will be joined on the 2.5-mile ribbon of asphalt by any/all entrants for a practice session from noon-6 p.m. (ET). The day includes other fan events, including autograph sessions with Parnelli Jones and Danny Sullivan. All the ROP participants -- JR Hildebrand (National Guard Panther Racing), James Hinchcliffe (Newman/Haas Racing), Charlie Kimball (Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing), Ho-Pin Tung (Schmidt Dragon Racing), James Jakes (Dale Coyne Racing), Scott Speed (Dragon Racing) and Mann – completed at least three phases of the exercise.

Veach will assist Winfrey in obtaining the signatures of the 33 drivers that qualify for this year’s Indianapolis 500 for her anti-texting petition. “I’m really excited to get the Indy 500 drivers on board with Oprah’s campaign,” said Veach, who wrapped his first-ever oval test last week, clocking in third quick on the timing charts. “I signed Oprah’s pledge in Chicago on April 30 while attending the show and think it’s a necessary program to make today’s roads safer.” Veach, a native of Stockdale, Ohio, has been working to educate teen drivers about the perils of texting while behind the wheel, and is finishing a book, due out Dec. 9 on his 16th birthday.
