April 18, 2021 10:30Am Worship Service FIRST UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH April 18, 2021, 10:30Am FIRST UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH April 18, 2021 10:30am Worship Service FIRST UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH April 18, 2021, 10:30am MISSION To glorify God and make disciples VISION To develop a community that seeks to follow Christ, love others, share the gospel faithfully and disciple the next generation of believers. PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP Please prepare your heart for worship and silence your mobile devices. This morning as we begin the third week of Eastertide, we sing Come, People of the Risen King. This modern hymn reminds us of the basis on which we approach God. And let’s face it: we regularly need remind- ing! It’s so easy for us, especially after a difficult week or yet another personal failure, to be very aware of our weakness. Sometimes this causes us to attempt to keep our distance from God, feeling like we don’t deserve to enjoy His closeness or experience His love. At this point we need to remember that we can never come to God on the basis of our own worth; we always come on the basis of what Christ has done. It is His righteousness, His total obedience that ushers us into the Father’s presence, and enables us to enjoy all the blessings that Jesus deserves because we are "in Christ." Rejoice, Rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice! One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice! WELCOME TO WORSHIP If you are a visitor, thank you for joining us. Any questions about our church? We encourage you to ask a greeter! TITHES & OFFERINGS There are four ways to give your tithes and offerings: 1. Offering box: We will not pass the offering plate. A box is available at the front of the overflow room under the TV. 2. Give by mail: First United Presbyterian Church, 801 16th St, Moline, IL 61265 3. Give through your bank’s bill pay service: There is usually not a fee for this service. 4. Give online: www.fupcmoline.org/giving (3% fee) Please stand if you are able PRELUDE Sharon Jensen WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Jim Sanderlin MEDITATION Sharon Jensen, piano solo CALL TO WORSHIP God calls all people to acknowledge His rule. As His children, we not only acknowledge His rule, but we respond in submission. Let us come before Him in worship with praise, joy, and thanksgiving! HYMNS OF PRAISE All People That on Earth Do Dwell (Psalm 100) vs.1-5: William Kethe, 1561 Doxology: Thomas Ken, 1674 music: from Four Score and Seven Psalms of David, 1551 All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice. Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell; Come ye before Him and rejoice. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed; Without our aid He did us make; We are His folk, He doth us feed, And for His sheep He doth us take. O enter then His gates with praise; Approach with joy His courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless His name always, For it is seemly so to do. For why? the Lord our God is good; His mercy is for ever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures, here below; Praise Him above, ye heav'nly hosts; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Come, People of the Risen King by Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty & Stuart Townend ©2007 Thankyou Music Come, people of the Risen King, Who delight to bring Him praise; Come all and tune your hearts to sing To the Morning Star of grace. From the shifting shadows of the earth We will lift our eyes to Him, Where steady arms of mercy reach To gather children in. Rejoice, Rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice! One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice! Come, those whose joy is morning sun, And those weeping through the night; Come, those who tell of battles won, And those struggling in the fight. For His perfect love will never change, And His mercies never cease, But follow us through all our days With the certain hope of peace. Come, young and old from every land – Men and women of the faith; Come, those with full or empty hands – Find the riches of His grace. Over all the world, His people sing – Shore to shore we hear them call The Truth that cries through every age: “Our God is all in all!" PRAYER OF ADORATION PRAYER OF CONFESSION Corporate Prayer Holy God and Father of all who trust in You, we are Your redeemed people, yet at times we refuse to live in the freedom that is ours. We are Your loved people, yet we spurn You by our desires for other loves. You call us to obedience, yet we question You and Your ways. Therefore, we repent and ask Your forgiveness for the travesty of our rebellion against You. Cleanse us with the blood of Your Son, which was shed for us. Show us how to build our lives on the only sure foundation, Jesus Christ our risen, faithful Savior. Silent Prayer Assurance of Pardon Romans 4:25, 5:1 (Jesus) was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. HYMN OF ASSURANCE All I Have is Christ by Jordan Kauflin ©2008 Sovereign Grace Praise I once was lost in darkest night, Yet thought I knew the way. The sin that promised joy and life Had led me to the grave. I had no hope that You would own A rebel to Your will, And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still. But as I ran my hell-bound race, Indifferent to the cost, You looked upon my helpless state And led me to the cross; And I beheld God's love displayed: You suffered in my place, You bore the wrath reserved for me, Now all I know is grace. Hallelujah! all I have is Christ. Hallelujah! Jesus is my life. Now Lord I would be Yours alone, And live so all might see The strength to follow Your commands Could never come from me. O Father, use my ransomed life In any way You choose And let my song forever be: "My only boast is You!" OLD TESTAMENT Ezekiel 37:1-6 Dave Dellitt The Valley of Dry Bones 1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. 2 And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. 3 And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” 4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Be- hold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. 6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.” CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER Keith Asmus Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SERMON “Transformation” Paul Jensen John 20:11-18 Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene 11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magda- lene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”— and that he had said these things to her. HYMN OF RESPONSE I Stand Amazed in the Presence by Charles H. Gabriel, 1905 I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus, the Nazarene, and wonder how he could love me, a sinner, condemned, unclean. He took my sins and my sorrows; he made them his very own; he bore the burden to Calvary and suffered and died alone.
