Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent season. We feel the need to participate in a Mass or service and have ashes imparted upon us even though it is not a holy day of obligation. Even if people do not go to Mass on a regular basis, will take up the various Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, but particularly fasting in the form of “giving up” something.
