BRUCE WALKER

Bruce Walker joined the Trust in October 2015 and was appointed Chairman the following month. He chairs the Governance Group and is also a member of the Finance Group. His business career has been in property development having served as a main board director of a publicly quoted company before starting his own house building company.

Bruce’s principal areas of community life have been in the health care sector, education and children’s charities. He served two terms of four years each on the Hospitals Trust and has been a school governor for 32 years. He is vice-chairman of a Bromley based Multi-Academy Trust and has provided sponsorship for education of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Bruce lives in the London Borough of Bromley and, as a keen pilot, flies from .

In line with the Trust’s succession plan he will be leaving the Trust towards the end of 2021.

MIKE RENDER

Mike Render joined the Trust in 2015; he is Vice Chair and leads the Finance Group. He served in the Royal Air Force for 37 years, retiring in 2010. Tours included: the Red Arrows Team Engineer for 3 years in the mid 1980s; senior engineering, logistics and operations adviser to the Royal Saudi Air Force, in Kingdom, for 5½ years to 2002; and, for his final 4 years, as directing staff at the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies in Belgrave Square.

Mike holds 4 masters’ degrees: aircraft design; business administration (finance); defence studies; and logistics management.

He lives near the museum in a house which is part of the former Royal Air Force Biggin Hill.

To accord with the succession plan, Mike will be the next trustee to leave, in very early 2021.

JANE CAMERON

Jane Cameron is curator of Bromley Historic Collections. She has twenty years’ experience working within museums and academia. As a consultant and museum professional she has worked for independent, municipal and university collections, and in 2020 became an Arts Council Museum Accreditation Mentor.

As a researcher she has conducted fieldwork in the Middle East, India and North America. Her current research brings her closer to home with an exploration of the lifestyle and dress practices of UK motorcycle despatch riders ZOE COLBECK

Zoë joined the Trust’s board of Trustees in 2020. Zoë is the General Manager for the National Trust at Chartwell, Emmetts Garden, Quebec House and 1600 acres of National Trust land in West . She has been in post for the last 7 and half years and is responsible for the whole operation of the houses, gardens and wider countryside enabling visitors from around the world to these special places.

Zoë has led three transformational projects for the National Trust and improved the operation in terms of income, visitor satisfaction, and conservation and presentation of the places in her care. Zoë has worked for the National Trust for 16 years. Prior to Chartwell, Zoë was responsible for a portfolio of National Trust properties in London.

Zoë read Chemistry at University and then worked for one of the UK’s largest retailers in specialising in Logistics and People Management before joining the National Trust to combine her passion for heritage with her commercial training.

ADRIAN DEANE

Adrian Deane started his working career as a professional footballer for Charlton Athletic Football Club. While at Charlton, Adrian represented the Republic of Ireland from the ages of under 17 to under 21s. Adrian received 4 international appearances at Under 21 level.

Adrian founded SJA Group which specialises in Facilities Management and Asset Management.

Adrian is also a co-owner of Regency Asset Management. Headquartered in Mayfair, Regency is a boutique Chartered Surveyor practice specialising in all aspects of property and asset maximisation.

Adrian has worked with many distinguished charities including Shelter and St Mungo’s. In recent years Adrian took part in a number of fundraising initiatives.

Recently Adrian has become the Chairman of the local Southern Counties East League Premier Division team Erith and Belvedere FC.

Adrian Lives in with his wife and two children.

SUE GOODWIN

Sue joined the Trust in September 2020 as part of the Finance Group.

During her career, Sue has concentrated on customer facing roles beginning in the printing industry and culminating in IT training and employability skills development. During this time Sue gained wide-ranging qualifications in printing, information and communications technology, bookkeeping and teaching. Using these skills and experience, as well as spending time at the museum, Sue also volunteers for the National Trust at Chartwell, both in the house as part of the conservation team and in the garden as a tour guide and maintaining the plant database. In her spare time, Sue enjoys a range of crafts, baking bread and making cheese. ALISON NEWMAN

After school Alison studied Theology at King’s College London. She then went into banking and then worked for the Civil Service, in the Department of Health and Social Security, as it was then.

Having spent time raising a large family, Alison then felt a calling to the Priesthood and was ordained in the Church of England in 2002. She has been Vicar of St Mark’s Biggin Hill for 5 years, previously serving in Bromley, and . Alison is also Chaplain of St George’s RAF Chapel of Remembrance, responsible for overseeing any Anglican services which take place there. Another role she has undertaken since moving to Biggin Hill is Padre to 2427 Squadron, Air Training Corps in Biggin Hill.

ANGUS PATTERSON

Angus Patterson is a Senior Curator in the Department of Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics & Glass at the Victoria and Albert Museum and is responsible for collections of historic metalwork. In this role he was Lead Curator of the Cast Courts Interpretation Gallery and is currently Lead Curator of the proposed 19th-Century International Galleries. Angus is the author of three books and lectures and publishes on a variety of collections and topics. Angus is passionate about aviation history and, as a resident of , has a keen local interest in Biggin Hill.

Angus has been a Trustee of the Biggin Hill Memorial Museum since 2016. During his time serving the Trust he has guided the development of the museum collection and gallery displays, advised on museum design and on collections management policies and led the recruitment board for the museum’s new Director. Angus is currently guiding Phase 2 of the project, the development to the Learning Centre and Memorial Wall. Angus’ 5-year term as a Trustee comes to an end in February 2021.
