04 AUG 2021 UIPM EXECUTIVE BOARD AWARDS 2022 CONGRESS AND FUTURE COMPETITIONS The UIPM Executive Board met today in Tokyo (JPN) and made decisions around the awarding of competitions and events spanning the next three years. COVID-19 Coronavirus travel restrictions permitting, the UIPM 2022 Congress will take place in Antigua (Guatemala), following the online UIPM 2021 Congress already scheduled for November 2021. The UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup series will be the first competitions to adopt the new Modern Pentathlon format designed for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and teams can now start preparing for competitions next season in Cairo (Egypt), Budapest (Hungary), Albena (Bulgaria) and Ankara (Turkey). Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan formerly known as Astana, will host Pentathlon World Cups in 2023 and 2024. There is also exciting news for the worldwide youth athlete community, which will soon be reunited for the UIPM 2021 Youth World Championships (U19/U17), with the 2022 competition awarded to Lugnano (Italy). The full list of awards is as follows: UIPM Pentathlon World Cup (2022-24) Cairo (EGY) Budapest (HUN) Albena (BUL) UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara (TUR) UIPM Pentathlon World Cup (2023-24) Nur-Sultan (KAZ) UIPM 2022 Youth World Championships (U19/U17) Lignano (ITA) UIPM 2022 Congress Antigua (GUA) UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “The members of the UIPM Executive Board today made a series of unanimous decisions that sent out a clear message that we are balancing our activities worldwide. “The meeting underlined the strong support we received from athletes and coaches for the new Modern Pentathlon format, which will be introduced during the UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup. “The COVID-19 pandemic is still causing difficulties worldwide and we continue to take care of our athletes and officials – we need to provide hope through sport so that all nations can overcome the situation.”.

DOCUMENT ARTISTIC AWAKENING IN ANKARA (1953)1 BÜLent ecevit Until very recently, we Ankara residents were as jealous of Istanbul’s artistic awareness as we were of its sea and its trees. Our trees have yet to reach maturity, and we are as distant from the sea as ever, but an artistic awakening has now begun in Ankara as well. Concert tickets have begun to sell out in the blink of an eye, as soon as they are available. Curiously enough, tickets to the opening night of the opera reportedly sometimes sell out even before they are released.2 I say “reportedly” because this is a story I heard from one of the people interested in opening nights at the opera. Our opera no longer admits people to the concert hall who are ungroomed or who lack a formal dinner jacket. There are frequent balls at the opera. You’d think you’re in 18th-century Vienna. Because, as far as we know, this kind of dandyism no longer exists in any 20th-century city. TURKISH PRESIDENT TURGUT ÖZAL’S IMPACT ON NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV’S PERCEPTION OF TURKEY* Nursultan Nazarbayev'ın Türkiye Algısına Tugut Özal'ın Etkisi Din Muhammed AMETBEK** Abstract Nursultan Nazarbayev as the founding President of Kazakhstan played a determinant role in the formation of Kazakh foreign policy. In this respect, the article examines Nazarbayev’s perception of Turkey as a decision maker in foreign policy are based on observation rather than realities. Nazarbayev is aware of the fact that the national identity of Kazakhstan is divided between two competing poles; Russian and Kazakh, in a broader sense; Slavic and Turkic. From this perspective, Nazarbayev’s perception of Turkey is significant as it is not only related to foreign policy but at the same time the national identity of Kazakhstan. The study argues that the President of Republic of Turkey of early 1990s Turgut Özal with his active diplomacy towards Kazakhstan contributed to the positive image of Turkey. The research concludes that close and reliable relations between Nazarbayev and Özal became the basis of a strategic part- nership between Kazakhstan and Turkey. The in vivo stability of PBN is very low and when administered systemically, it has a mean plasma half life of about three hours. Therefore, formulations which are able to prolong the plasma residence time of PBN are of major interest, because oxygen radicals are usually continuously formed under pathologi- cal conditions.

The Turkey-Armenia-Azerbaijan Triangle: The Unexpected Outcomes of the Zurich Protocols Zaur SHIRIYEV* & Celia DAVIES** Abstract Key Words This paper analyses the domestic and regional Zurich Protocols, Turkish-Armenian impact of the Turkish-Armenian normalisation rapprochement/normalisation, Russo- process from the Azerbaijani perspective, with Georgian War, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, a focus on the changing dynamic of Ankara- Azerbaijani-Turkish relations. Turkey 2019 Crime & Safety Report: Ankara This is an annual report produced in conjunction with the Regional Security Office at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. The current U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory at the date of this report’s publication assesses Turkey at Level 3, indicating travelers should reconsider travel to the country due to terrorism and arbitrary detentions. Do not travel to areas along the Turkey-Syria border, and to the southeastern provinces of Hatay, Kilis, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Sirnak, Diyarbakır, Van, Siirt, Muş, Mardin, Batman, Bingöl, Tunceli, Hakkâri, and Bitlis due to terrorism. Crime Threats There is minimal threat from crime in Ankara. Crime levels decreased significantly in 2018. Turkish citizens are the chief perpetrators and victims of the vast majority of crime in Ankara. Although violent crimes (e.g. sexual assault, rape, murder) do occur, they are infrequent or unreported, and have not had an impact on the expatriate community. Crime statistics provided by the Turkish National Police (TNP) for Ankara province in 2018 reflect the following number of reported crimes: burglary (4,083), robbery (236), vehicle break-in (1,953), vehicle theft (794), and homicide (124).
