The late 90’s have seen a significant decrease in general pricing (premiums) while underlying claims, in most cases, have gradually increased. Many say that the two conditions actually crossed and the result is finally beginning to show up on company balance sheets. Industry experts point to the A “soft” P&C market is nothing new. The last hard fact that the soft P&C market is market was 1985. nothing new. In fact, the last “hard” market was in 1985.     MASSACHUSETTS PRIVATE PASSENGER RESIDUAL MARKET AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE MANUAL SECTION I - GENERAL RULES RULE 1. ELIGIBILITY All individually owned vehicles registered under the Massachusetts Compulsory Motor Vehicle Law that are eligible for private passenger motor vehicle insurance under the rules of the Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Plan (MAIP) may be rated in accordance with this manual and written on the Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Policy. RULE 2. COVERAGES AND LIMITS The types of coverages available in the CAR Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Policy are: Compulsory Insurance Coverages Part 1 - Bodily Injury to Others The basic limits are $20,000 each person and $40,000 each accident. This endorsement, effective on at 12:01 A.M. standard time, forms a part of (DATE) Policy No. (Effective ) Endorsement No. issued to Premium (if any) $ _____________________________________________ Authorized Representative This endorsement is added to Part Five (Premium) because you chose to have the cost of the insurance rated retrospectively. This endorsement explains the rating plan and how the retrospective premium will be determined. This endorsement applies in the states listed in the Schedule. It determines the retrospective premium for the insurance provided during the rating plan period by this policy and any policy listed in the Schedule. The rating plan period is the one-year period beginning with the effective date of this endorsement. The amount of retrospective premium depends on five standard elements and two elective elements. A. Retrospective Premium Standard Elements The five standard elements are explained here. 1. Standard premium is the premium we would charge during the rating plan period if you had not chosen Large Risk Alternative Rating, but with two exceptions. Standard premium does not include the expense constant charge or the premium discount credit. 2. Basic premium is less than standard premium. It is standard premium multiplied by a percentage called the basic premium factor.
