VOL. 122 - NO. 1 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, JANUARY 5, 2018 $.35 A COPY Boston Rings in the New Year! News Briefs by Sal Giarratani Newsweek Said What? You know, I didn’t even know that Newsweek Magazine was around anymore. Who still reads it? They stopped doing a print version on newsstands and the only way to read it is online. Which I don’t! Recently, its December 24th issue headlined how Trump and the Nazis have stolen Christmas from the rest of us. WHAT? I guess saying “Merry Christmas” is now a sign that one is a white supremacist. The Alt-Left Liberal Crowd needs to get a life. Meanwhile, Over at Vanity Fair Seems recently the quite liberal Vanity Fair did a piece mocking Hillary Clinton and liberals went bonkers over it. Apparently some liberals are quite intolerant and pretty illiberal when it comes to any kind of criticism of poor Hillary, their winner of the 2016 presidential election. Stop Using Chicago as Face of Urban America President Trump loves using the City of Chicago to blame liberals for running American cities with their useless policies. Chicago, or at least a good chunk of it, is horribly crime-ridden and deserves the title Murder Capitol U.S.A. However, over the past year, the Chicago Police Department has been working diligently to lower crime. The previous two years were quite terrible when it came to the murder rate. Things have turned around a bit. Overall, crime was down in ’17 from 2015-2016. Murders have dropped by 14 percent. Fourteen percent may not seem much, but for Chicago that has been a big achievement and the efforts of the Chicago Police have to be commended as a step in the right direction.
