CULTIVATION OBJECTIVES The students are cultivated as high-quality innovative professionals. They are well developed in the aspects of morality, intelligence, physique, and aesthetic. They possess the basic theoretical knowledge in the fields of and Physics, and are well trained in the applied research, technological development, and engineering. They can research physical properties and laws of materials at the level of molecule, atom and electron, and apply to develop new materials preparative technology, advanced function materials and equipments. The graduates are expected to work in various industries, universities, and research institutes in the fields of over function materials and the related (such as energy engineering, electric power, etc.), engaging in product design, technological development, scientific research, and management, and playing important and leading roles in the fields with international competitiveness and innovation. MAIN AND RELATED DISCIPLINES Main discipline: Physics, Materials Science and Engineering Related disciplines: Electronic Science and Technology, Power Engineering and Engineering Thermo physics MAIN COURSES General Physics, Electrodynamics, , Solid State Physics, and Statistical Physics,Physical ,Methods of , Foundation of Materials Science,Introduction to Crystallography,Research Methods of Materials,Physical properties of materials, Fabrication and Forming of Materials,New Power Sources Materials.

CHIEF ASPECTS OF PRACTICAL TEACHING Metalworking Practice, Professional Practice, curriculum design, Graduation Thesis EDUCATION SYSTEM AND ACADEMIC DEGREE Four years with the Bachelor Degree of Science. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS The minimum credit requirement is 170 (within class) plus 8 (extracurricular). Also, the students should pass the exams of military training, CET -4 and the test of National Standard for College Students’ Physique Health before graduation. Course Requirements

The minimum credit requirement for the Bachelor degree is 170 credits from the course works and 8 credits from the extra-curricular practice. The compulsory courses and optional courses account for 101 and 49 respectively, and comprehensive practical education and extracurricular practice account for 20 and 8 respectively. 1.Credit Requirements for Different Categories in Curriculum Structure ( 1) The requirement of Basic General Curriculum are 12 optional credits, including 6 compulsory credits for core courses and 6 optional credits for other courses (2) Politics and Military Education and National Defense Education: 16 compulsory credits. (3) Physical Education, English, and Fundamental of Computer Technology: 15 compulsory credits, including 10 from English, 2 from Physical Education, and 3 from Computer Technology. (4) Basic Curriculum of Each Discipline: 45 compulsory credits, including 17 in Mathematics, 21 in

Physics,3 in Chemistry and 4 in Electrics and Electronics Basic Curricula of Each Specialty: 34.5 compulsory credits. (5) Basic Curriculum of Each Specialty: 39 credits, including 29 compulsory credits, and 10 optional credits. (6) Specialized Curriculum: minimum 23 optional credits. (7) If the scores of Computer diagnostic test is higher than 85,the new students may exempt from 3 credits of Fundamental of Computer Technology. (1) Generally, during each school term 24 to 30 credits (sum of compulsory and optional credits) are required for a full-time student. (2) The students may optionally study some postgraduate courses, the credits can be added into the total credits but they cannot replace required 170 plus 8 credits. If this student enters the postgraduate stage of Xian Jiaotong University, the credits can be included the total credits of postgraduate study. 2.Credit Requirements for Chief Aspects of Practical Teaching ( 1) Metalworking Practice Through practice in the university workshop, understand basic and perceptual knowledge on materials and production. The assessment of performance for the students is conducted by the authorized person at the workshop. (2) Professional Practice After the third school year, the students will go to industry and/or research units, collectively or individually, to do professional practice and learn more about practical production or research activities. A written report on the practice is required. (3) Course Design This is arranged at the seventh school term. The teacher(s) in the project steering committee will first propose some research topics related to the specialty direction; The students, organized as groups by their own will, select appropriate topic under the guidance of the teacher(s), work on the project at their out-of-class time, and report their progresses routinely, identifying problems and finding possible solutions. Finally, a written report should be submitted by the students and scored by the teacher(s) (4) Graduation Thesis The students will work on their diploma thesis from the beginning of the eighth school term, including the selection of the thesis topic, assignment of the tasks, and determination of the contents of the written paper. The thesis should be completed in the middle of June in the school term, and an oral examination for thesis defense will be organized by the School and the Department in the second half of June. 3.Credit Requirements for Extracurricular Practice The extracurricular activities of 8 credits are arranged by the Department of the Student’s Affairs. 4.Credit Requirements for the Core Courses of Basic General Curriculum: In principle, the credits should be derived from inter-discipline courses. 5.Credit Requirements for bilingual Courses Credits should come from at least 2 courses which are taught in English or bilingually.
