PROCLAMATION OF THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RECOGNIZING THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VENERABLE MASTER HSUAN HUA’S ARRIVAL IN THE UNITED STATES TO ESTABLISH THE TRADITIONAL TEACHINGS OF BUDDHA IN THE WESTERN WORLD WHEREAS, the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua was a major figure in establishing Buddhism as a complement to the religious and cultural diversity of our country; and WHEREAS, Americans of all religious persuasions have come to view with respect the Buddhist teaching of inner peacefulness, in that it promotes peace among neighbors and among peoples; and WHEREAS, it was in June 1962, exactly 50 years ago, that the Master Hsuan Hua came to the United States to begin his ministry; and WHEREAS, during the remaining 33 years until his death in 1995, the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua established the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association, with its monastic headquarters at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, in Talmage, Mendocino County, California, and its 28 branch monasteries; and WHEREAS, the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, recognizing the supreme importance of education, also founded Dharma Realm Buddhist University, the Buddhist Text Translation Society, elementary and secondary schools, and the Institute for World Religions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Mendocino, in recognition of the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua’s many contributions to his adopted country and to the County of Mendocino, hereby extends congratulations to his students and disciples on the occasion of the commemoration of the 50 year anniversary of the arrival of their teacher, the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, in the United States.
