Kelleys Life Sept./Oct. 2016 25¢ Harvest Festival Appledore IV September 24 The 2nd Annual Harvest Festival is a Tall Ship at community event featuring family fun. Festivities will be held in the downtown Memorial Park from 11 a.m. – 4p.m. Activities Kelleys Island will include lots of fun games, scarecrow making, chicken poop drop, crafts, food and vendors. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to continue improving the Memorial Park. We are in need of numerous volunteers for this event. Anyone that is interested in helping out can sign up at the Captain’s Corner or Kelleys Island Venture Resort. We are in need of volunteers to run simple kids games, help out at craft stations, man the Bake Sale table, and other miscellaneous duties. Bake Sale items are also needed. Those interested in baking can sign-up at the Captain’s Corner. Kelleys Island Community Chest / Absolutely KI! will also be sponsoring a Fall Mum Sale on Saturday, September 10. Having watched a few games and first hand witnessed the exceptional talent that our team demonstrated the outcome of the championship games was not a surprise. Hail to the Champs… Dee Zimmerman advised me in June that she was going to retire from her position, of our Clerk of Court, effective September 1. Dee was kind enough to give advanced notice which gave us an opportunity to post the position, accept applications and interview three very qualified finalists. On July 25, the court staff interviewed the finalist and at the end of the process a decision was made. Our new Clerk of Court is Daneen Kindt. Daneen ran the August 15 Magistrate’s Court and demonstrated that the choice made by the committee was spot on. Welcome aboard…. This coming November election, the island will be presenting on the ballot, a renewal of our 1.25 mil Operating Expense levy. This levy provides 29% of the revenue to our General Fund. The General Fund is the back bone of every day operating expenses.
