V. Current Involvement in Archaeological Projects 1. Study of the material from Zakro Excavations directed by Professor Nikolaos Platon under the auspices of the Athens Archaeological Society. (Research Associate; External Collaborator) This project is directed by Professor L. Platon (University of Athens). My involvement in it (2004-current), besides the study of Neopalatial pottery from the palace and the adjacent settlement has recently (2011-current) focused sharply on the study and publication of the so-called ‘Archive’ room in the West Wing of the Late Minoan I palatial complex at Kato Zakro. This study will deal with the architecture, stratigraphy, taphonomy and all finds from the ‘Archive’ at an attempt to reconstruct administrative action at Kato Zakro. While I am responsible for the study of the epigraphic material, I collaborate broadly with Professor Platon and other colleagues for other aspects of this study. The Linear A documents found in the ‘Archive’ will be studied both as documents and as artefacts set in their proper archaeological context. A revised study of the sealings from House A (Hogarth’s excavations), encompassing a study of finger-prints found on them, is also embedded in this project and a full revision of the Bronze Age epigraphic material (including inscriptions in Cretan Hieroglyphic and Linear A) is also planned. The Zakros project receives support from many sources, including the Athens Archaeological Society, the Psycha Foundation and the Institute of Aegean Prehistory. My involvement in the Zakros project has benefited from the support of the Michael Ventris Memorial Award for 2011-2012. 2. Excavations at Koukonisi on Lemnos (Trench Supervisor, Research Associate) Under the auspices of the Academy of Athens and the direction of Dr Christos Boulotis, I have been involved (2004-current) in the excavations at the Bronze Age settlement of Koukonisi (Moudros gulf, Lemnos). My specific current tasks, besides excavation seasons, is in the study of stratigraphy and the Middle Bronze Age pottery (broadly contemporary with ‘Bruno’ phase in Poliochni). The project has received support by the Ministry of Culture and the Institute of Aegean Prehistory. A preliminary report stemming from my involvement has been presented in the Mesohelladika conference (no. 11 in the list of publications, infra VIII). 3. Iklaina Archaeological Project (Research Assistant) The Iklaina Archaeological Project (www.iklaina.wordpress.com) directed by Professor Michael Cosmopoulos (University of Missouri-St. Louis) is currently the most vivid archaeological project concerned with Bronze Age Messenia, a region that has so far produced key insights in our understanding of Aegean prehistory. So far, I have been involved in a variety of tasks including the study, illustration and cataloguing of Late Helladic pottery, the processing of data from the 1999-2006 survey of the project and the study of specific finds and features, including the Linear B tablet fragment recovered in 2010. 4. The publication of the Bronze Age settlement of Eleusis (Research Associate) As a research associate to Professor Michael Cosmopoulos’ project of publishing the Bronze Age material from the excavations of the Athens Archaeological Society at Eleusis, I have been involved in the study, illustration and cataloguing of Middle and Late Bronze Age pottery and the editing of the manuscripts for the final publication, as well as in contributing a study of the Linear B inscription on a stirrup-jar recovered during the 1933 excavations.
