www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru 01766 771000 @cyngorgwynedd cyngorgwyneddcouncil Major investment in schools Over recent months, school pupils in communities across Gwynedd have been making the most of new educational facilities.

As part of the work of establishing a new area school in the area, £4 million has been invested in upgrading several sites in the catchment area of Ysgol Bro Idris which officially opened in September.

Over £5 million has been invested in providing a new home for Ysgol Glancegin in Bangor. The modern new building is already proving popular with pupils.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to deliver major improvements to school buildings across the county over recent years,” said Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Gareth Thomas.

“With work now completed on the new home for Ysgol Glancegin and at a number of sites at Ysgol Bro Idris, it’s fantastic to see that the pupils are making the most of the new educational facilities on-offer.”

Both projects have been funded by the Council and the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme.

Continued from page 1 New home for Bangor’s Ysgol Glancegin A brand-new school building serving the Maesgeirchen area of Bangor is proving a huge hit with pupils of all ages.

The new £5.1 million Ysgol Glancegin aims to give its pupils the best possible start in life. The brand-new facility provides a state-of-the-art learning environment which includes external teaching spaces and new play areas.

The new building also provides an improved environment for pastoral care for pupils and families.

With the new Ysgol Glancegin built right next to the old school building which dated back to the late 1960s, pupils were involved in the design of the school and were able to keep a close eye on the developments.

“Seeing the new building being constructed was a fantastic experience for the children and we worked closely with the company carrying out the work so that the pupils could learn about the process,” said Headteacher, Gareth Jones.

“Now that the new school building is open, we all feel right at home. Having the best possible facilities is already making a difference and it will only benefit the children and help us as staff in our work.
