A 2018 World bronze medalist, Colon is coming off a fifth place finish at the 2019 Dan Kolov International in Bulgaria on March 1 where he went 2-2 in the tournament. The Clear Lake, Iowa native also competed at the end of January at the Ivan Yariguin Memorial International Tournament in Russia going 1-1. In October 2018, Colon shocked the world, winning bronze in his first World outing as a Team USA alternate. Since Budapest, Colon has put together two top-10 finishes in United World Wrestling Ranking Series events and looks to defend his 2018 Pan Am title he won last May in Lima, Peru. In addition to Colon competing, Silva will be one of three coaches on the women's freestyle team along with Fresno State Wrestling head coach Troy Steiner's brother, Terry as well as Cleo Lane. The Pan American Championships serve two big purposes. First, it is a ranking tournament for the 2019 Senior World Championships in Nur- Sultan, Kazakhstan in September, where the points go to the individual, not the country. Also it is a qualifier for the 2019 Pan American Games in August, where only Olympic weights will be contested. The three highest-placing athletes at each weight from countries that have not yet qualified, will earn spots at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru. Since this event will have two bronze winners, those two will face off for true-third to qualify their nation, if necessary. The women's freestyle tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 while the men's freestyle will wrap up the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21. For all four days, the tournament will begin at 6 a.m. PT with the qualification rounds and repechage. The finals are set for 1 p.m. PT each day.
