The analysis has been performed on the basis of data published in the Internet database of synoptic messages OGIMET for the period of December 1999 to November 2013. Types of weather were determined based on the modified classification of weather types by Ferdynus (1997, 2004, 2013). The occurrence of particular groups, classes, and types of weather, and sequences of days with predominant weather types was identified. During the research period the structure of the weather types at the selected stations is characterized by a large number of observed types of weather, with the majority of them occurring with a low frequency. Frosty weather was predominant. The most frequently reported was the weather marked with numerical code 1100 (extremely frosty, clear without precipitation and calm) in Verkhoyansk (12.5%), 1300 (extremely frosty, cloudy without precipitation and calm) in Yakutsk (12.2%), 1200 (extremely frosty, partly clouded without precipitation and calm) in Oymyakon (11.6%) and 2201 (exceptionally frosty, partly clouded without precipitation and light breeze) in Ostrov Kotelnyj (6.7%).

    LPS XXVT 189 OYMYAKON RING STRUCTURE IN THE NORTH-EASTERN SIBERIA: ONE MORE TERRESTRIAL COUNTERPART OF CORONm ON VENUS; G.A. Burba, Vernadsky Institute, Moscow 117975, Russia The highest area of the vast mountain country in the NE Siberia consists of the mountain ranges arranged as a 380-km-diameter ring structure. It is located between 62 and 66 N latitude, 139 and 148 E longitude, centering at 64 N, 143.5 E. The general topographic shape of this ring structure - a higher mountain ring (up to 3000 m) with a lower, but still topographically high (1000-1200 m), plateau inside, and lowland plains outside - resembles typical topography of the large circular features on Venus termed Corona (pl. - Coronae). The ring structure under consideration will be referred further as Oymyakon Ring Structure (OyRS) after Oymyakon Highland (Oymyakonskoye Nagorye) which occupies the considerable area within this ring structure, as well as after Oymyakon settlement located close to the structure's center. This settlement is well known as the Earth's Northern hemisphere "pole of cold". The topographically most prominent parts of the OyRS rim are Chersky Range (Khrebet Cherskogo) as NE segment, and Suntar-Khayata Range as SW segment. The following description is tracing the rim crest position from the South part of the rim to West, North, East, and back to South. SW segment of OyRS rim goes from Druza Mt. (2745 m) westward along Suntar- Khayata Range to 2933 m Mount, then to Mus-Khaya Mt. (2959 m), then to 2409 m Mount. NW segment of OyRS rim goes from 2409 m Mount (Western Suntar-Khayata Range) northward to 2041 m Mount at western edge of Oymyakon Highland, then to 1872 m Mount at southern part of Elgin Plateau (Elginskoye Ploskogorye), then some 50 km east of Vershina-Tuoydakh Mt.

Given the extreme natural and climatic conditions together with the unique and vulnerable ecosystem as well as the unique traditional culture of indigenous peoples, it is necessary to study the possibilities of developing the tourism in northern regions of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). Today the various types of tourism are being promoted and financed by the republic government in the Oymyakon region: 1) Event tourism; 2) Ethnographic tourism: learning about the reindeer herders’ way of life and crafts; 3) Active tourism; and 4) Extreme tourism.     CZECH POLAR REPORTS 5 (1): 33-43, 2015 Reindeer herding and environmental change in the Oymyakon District, Sakha Republic Atsushi Nakada* Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples, 309-1 Shiomi, Abashiri-shi, Hokkaido 093- 0042, Japan Abstract The aim of this study is to assess the influence of environmental change on reindeer herding in the Oymyakon District in the eastern part of the Sakha Republic. To investigate environmental change and its influence on reindeer herding, semi-structured interviews were conducted at two villages in the Oymyakon District, from February 24th to March 8th, 2013. As a result of the interview, meteorological, topographical, and ecological changes and their influence on general livelihood were evaluated by local residents to a greater or lesser degree. Part of the climatic changes felt by local residents was supported meteorological data set. Generally speaking, local reindeer herders and a manager of reindeer herding enterprise did not think these climatic, topographical and biological impacts were serious problems for reindeer herding. More serious problems, in their consideration, were social and economic difficulties. Judging from these results and the fluctuation of the number of domestic reindeer, even though meteorological variables are gradually changing, serious environmental changes have not generally been noted by local residents as yet. It can be concluded that the environmental changes do not appear to have exerted intense harmful influences on reindeer herding in Oymyakon District so far.
