Taillight. The primary function of a

taillight is to be noticeable. The notion

that it can also be beautiful is an

idea that not all automakers have

fully embraced just yet. Until they do,

we’ll continue to lead by example.

Chrome Grille. New chrome accents on the front grille allow birds to see

how cool they look as they pass

overhead.They also provide rain drops

with something attractive to aim for. We also like to think they draw the eye

and let it linger for a moment, before sweeping over the hood, like air.

Trunk L id. See how the restyled trunk

lid turns up slightly? And how that adds emphasis to the horizontal line?

And balances against the sloping contours of the fenders? You do?

Our designers live for things like that.

We couldn’t leave well enough

alone. Again. Thanks to a new pump

injector system called Pumpe Düse

(pronounced pump-ah du-sah), the TDI® now boasts more horsepower and torque. Cleaner emissions and

quieter operation. And all without

compromising the diesel-sipping

goodness that makes it our most

Light in weight, compact in design,

this engine has 5 valves percylinder.

That means you get betterbreathing

for enhanced performance.

This engine benefits from a simple

and true design. (Some would say it’s a classic.) It’s compact, pretty

lightweight, and requires less space

under the hood – all of which

goes to providing smooth engine

performance. To top it all off, it offers

lowered emissions, too.

The engine’s special 15 degree “V” shape makes for minimal

vibration and there’re six cylinders

for added smoothness. (That’s 24

valves in total.) It’s designed to fit in compact cars and since it’s

particularly light in weight, you get

improved performance. Plenty of torque across the rpm band

sets you up for quick acceleration

and passing power.

Coupled with a Turbo, you get high

torque starting at low rpm so you’re

quicker off the line. And high

horsepower at high rpm provides

you with exceptional passing power.

Your fuel economy1 is improved,

and there are lowered emissions, too.

People of the Beetle Generation sit up and take notice when they hear it today. They are strangely touched, experience melancholy, as though remembering something long since lost. It is a sound as unmistakable as the Beetle's silhouette: it buzzes, it putters - all against a background of soothing fan noises – a feeling of euphoria which has underscored our mobility for decades and which was the accompaniment for our independence and for growing prosperity during those years. Beginning in the late 1940's and continuing into the early 1980's, the unmistakable noise of the Beetle left its mark on the sound backdrop of German streets. And in other places, as well, the air-cooled Beetle Boxer was the lead instrument in the noisy traffic concert. This is why Volkswagen advertising from the Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) agency at the end of the 1960's, advertising that is already legendary today, was titled „What the world loves about Germany"; it included a colorfully mixed collection of pictures: Heidelberg, a cuckoo clock, sauerkraut with dumplings, Goethe, a dachshund, the Lorelei – and a Beetle.

    Can You Guess the Volkswagen?

When you think of VWs, do you think of the Rometsch, Hebmuller or Tempo Truck? Or are you more likely to think of Beetles and Buses? The lesser-known VWs have made a mark on the automotive world just like their more popular siblings. And like any vehicle, they had certain characteristics that were solely their own, or sometimes revised as the years went on. Mid America Motorworks takes a look at the VWs that have been making a quiet mark on the hobby. Volkswagen Type 4 The Volkswagen Type 4 is a mid-sized car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen of Germany from 1968 to 1974 in two-door and four-door sedan as well as two-door station wagon body styles. The Type 4 evolved through two generations, the 411 (1968–72) and 412 series (1972–74). Over its six year production run, Volkswagen manufactured 367,728 Type 4 models, compared with 210,082 of the subsequent Volkswagen K70 with its four year model life. Volkswagen Emissions Scandal: the Perils of Installing Illegal Software

R M B www.irmbrjournal.com March 2017 R International Review of Management and Business Research Vol. 6 Issue.1 I Volkswagen Emissions Scandal: The Perils of Installing Illegal Software PETER STANWICK Auburn University, Department of Management Email: [email protected] SARAH STANWICK Auburn University, School of Accountancy Abstract This paper presents a case study related to the negative impacts of Volkswagen installing illegal software in its automobiles in order to manipulate the emissions level of its diesel vehicles. The case addresses reasons why Volkswagen decided in install the illegal software and highlights the negative consequences of its actions. These negative consequences include significant financial and reputational costs to Volkswagen. Key Words: Volkswagen; Emission Levels, Environmental Standards, Corporate Reputation. Introduction In a stunning announcement on September 18, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accused Volkswagen of illegally installing software in its diesel cars that manipulated the amount of emissions occurring during testing of the levels of emission. The EPA alleged that Volkswagen used the software to turn on the full emissions control systems for the vehicle only when the vehicle was being tested for emissions. During any other time the vehicle was operating, the full emissions control system was turned off. The software would turn on the control systems when the car was running in a stationary position since that would be the condition when the car was being tested for emissions. The EPA estimated that when the full emissions control system had been turned off, the vehicle could release up to 40 times as much of the pollutant nitrogen oxide than is allowed under the Clean Air Act.
