If your dog is found to be at risk, forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability for any damage caused. • JUDGES' PROFILES • Peter Armstrong (Atron) I first started showing dogs in 1975 with the purchase of my first show dog, an Irish . As I made my first steps into dog showing I was luckily introduced to and was subsequently mentored by Marie and Alec McCallum, whose Segedunum English many of the older exhibitors will remember. They were very generous in sharing their knowledge of the breed but also of their all-round knowledge of the dog showing world and hence my first involvement, although indirectly, with the English Setter began. Many years have now passed and I still love the Irish, a breed that I was fortunately quite successful in, however I have now become actively interested in the English Setter. Mainly, in consequence of meeting my wife Lesley, who was already heavily involved with the English Setter before we were married. We both now enjoy showing and owning both breeds and have recently added Border to our kennel. I currently serve on the Committee of the Northern English Setter Society. I first started judging in 1983, first judged English Setters in 1984, and awarded Challenge Certificates, in Irish Setters, for the first time in 1993. I look forward with great anticipation to my appointment to judge at the South Western Gundog Club Open Show. Nadine Barber (Swansreach) I have owned Golden for over 25 years and was brought up in a family that always owned dogs. I enjoy showing my dogs and judging. I have judged over a wide geographical area and am on the B list. I serve as a Committee member of ECGRC and as sub-committee on the working sub-committee of Eastern Counties too. I am looking forward to this appointment. David Bell (Balintyne) I bought my first in 1974 and have exhibited them continuously since that date, breeding the occasional litter to maintain a show line. Together with my wife, we have shown / bred 4 Champions and many CC, RCC and Stud Book winners. I first awarded Challenge Certificates in 1988 and now award CCs in 11 Gundog breeds and the Gundog Group. We have also exhibited Pointers and Labradors. Jackie Boyd-McNeil (Glennlokhen) I started showing 37 years ago, winning my first CC with a Belgian Shepherd in 1990. I bought myfirst Irish Setter 16 years ago, Glencarron Dailuane, who was the winner of 3 RCCs. My first Show Champion, Glencarron Shakatak, won his title in 2011, winning the RCC at in 2012. I have also owned several others who have gained their Stud Book Numbers. I have over nine years’ experience judging breeds within the Gundog Group and I am currently on the B List for Irish Setters. I am thoroughly looking forward to judging at this lovely show. Professor Terry Desombre (Braneath) Terry Desombre has been associated with dogs and other animals, all his life. His first venture into the exhibition arena was in the early 1970s being granted the affix BRANEATH in 1972. Since then, he has made up Champion Boston Terriers and a Miniature Schnauzer. He has also owned and shown Border Terriers and Pugs with success. Terry’s judging career goes back for some years. He continues to judge at Open Show and Championship Show level, judging Crufts in 2014. He was first approved to award Challenge Certificates by the Kennel Club in 1995. Over the past years he has been involved with German Shorthaired Pointers both in the show ring and as working Gundogs. Terry is a member of The Kennel Club and was the Chairman of The Boston Club a post that he held for seventeen years. He was a trustee for the charity Public Relation Organisation for Dogs (PRO Dogs). Marion McAngus (Greyfurs) I have owned since 1979, have made up 3 Sh Ch and had a Sh Ch transfered to me to show. I have won many CCs & RCCs and campaigned all over the UK. I am involved with my daughter & grandaughter with Hungarian and made up 1 Sh Ch and several CCs & RCCs in this breed, Redfurs is her Affix. I award CCs in Weimaraners, Hungarian Vizsla, Hungarian , German Wirehaired and have my 1st appointment in 2020 for German Shorthaired Pointers. I am also on the B List for Spanish Water Dogs and applying for A3 list soon. I am on 3 show committees and like to steward at many Championship Shows. I have judged all Gundogs at some time and really enjoy the privilege. Judges' Profiles cont. Tina Smith (Isfryn) In my late 20s I made the decision to stop working with horses, so needed another outdoor hobby and was encouraged to take up dog showing - but what sort of dog? I wanted a Gundog I could work as well as show and after sitting around many a ringside I decided the Welsh Springer was the breed for me. My first arrived in 1999, and within the next 12 months I had three. I bred my first litter in 2002 with my affix ISFRYN. I have never looked back and I have been breeding and promoting dual purpose Welsh Springer ever since. I am very proud that my dogs have been awarded KC Stud Book Numbers from both the field and bench. I am very much looking forward to judging at the South Western Gundog Club Open Show and I would like to thank the Club for the invitation.

USE OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AT SHOWS The Kennel Club is becoming increasingly concerned at the amount of electrical equipment being used by exhibitors at shows, including hair dryers and hair straighteners and other grooming devices. Electrical equipment should not be brought to shows unless absolutely necessary. In rare instances where it might be required, it should be PAT tested and permission sought from the secretary of the show before it is used. The Kennel Club has also been informed of recent instances of exhibitors commandeering certain areas of a venue in order to have access to power points so as to use electrical grooming equipment. This is totally unacceptable and particularly unfair on the breeds whose allocated areas have been cramped because of this selfish behaviour. SECURITY AT SHOWS In light of recent events the Kennel Club would like to issue a reminder to all Societies of the importance of security at dog shows. The Kennel Club understands that due to the nature of dog shows and the quantity of paraphernalia exhibitors bring it would be extremely difficult for show organisers to take on the issue of security alone, therefore we would reiterate the advice being given by the Police and security services, that everyone in the UK should remain vigilant and this applies to those organising and taking part in dog shows. The importance of exhibitors feeling that they and their dogs are safe when attending a show cannot be underestimated. We would therefore remind you of the importance of the need for show organisers and exhibitors to remain mindful of potential dangers and that all visitors generally need to be vigilant and alert. Judging will commence with the Veteran classes at 9.00 am prompt. 4. Exhibits may be removed from the Show after their judging has been completed. The Show will close half an hour after all judging has been completed. 5. ENTRY FEES: Members: First Class each dog £4.25; each subsequent Class with same dog £1.50. Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible for exhibition. 9. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden. 10. Best Puppy in Show: Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and has been declared Best Puppy in Breed, Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified Puppy or Best Any Variety Imported Breed Register Puppy. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Where the Reserve Best of Breed or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively. 11. Best in Show: Best in Show and subsequent placings must be selected from those dogs declared Best of Breed, Best from Any Variety Not Separately Classified and Best Any Variety Imported Breed Register. 12. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management. 13. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them nor handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 14. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 15. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 16. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. 17. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. The use of pinch collars, electronic shock collars, or prong collars, is not permitted at any show licensed by the Kennel Club. This shall apply at the venue or within the precincts of the show. 18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 19. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the Board of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 20. Should any judge be prevented from fulfilling their engagement, the Committee reserves to themselves the right of appointing other judges to fulfil their duties. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition but no entry fees can be refunded. 21. Any owner, competitor or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. Adequate receptacles for the disposal of such fouling will be provided. 22. The Committee will do its utmost to ensure the safety of the dogs brought for exhibition but it must be clearly understood by exhibitors and all other persons at the Show that the Committee will not be responsible for the loss or damage to any dogs or property, or personal injury whether arising from accident or any other cause whatsoever. 23. An announcement prior to the date of closing of entries in Our Dogs of any alteration of addition made by the Committee to the schedule or in these Regulation shall be sufficient notice thereof. 24. All children must be kept under control and parents will be held responsible for any damage caused and charges incurred. 25. Please do not obstruct gangways with cages, pens, grooming tables, trolleys and dogs. Storage space will be made available for trolleys/ cages. 26. If in the opinion of the Show Secretary, Show Manager or Judge any dog is considered not in a fit state for exhibition owing to a disease, savage disposition, or any other cause, the dog may be excluded or removed from the show the dog must not be brought into the Show at any time under any circumstances. 25. No animal other than an exhibit duly entered at the show will be allowed within the precincts of the show during its continuance. 26. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at a Kennel Club licensed event must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). 27. A dog may be disqualified by the Board from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled judge, this shall not apply to a judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of the appropriate entry fees. 28. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number. • DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES • In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members' classes or competing for Members' Specials each partner must at the time of entry be a member of the Society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing of postal entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. Friday, 15th March 2019. Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering for Variety classes, wins in both Breed and Variety classes must be counted. A First Prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value. If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options: (1) Withdrawal The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulation 20. (2) Transfer a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted, to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. b) If an exhibit is entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy class, Puppy class or Junior class, which is over age but under twelve calendar months of age, eighteen calendar months of age or twenty four calendar months of age respectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy class, Junior class or Yearling class respectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy, Junior or Yearling class to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog may not be transferred to any other class. MINOR PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. JUNIOR For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. YEARLING For dogs of twelve and not exceeding twenty-four calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. SPECIAL YEARLING For dogs of six and not exceeding twenty-four calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. NOVICE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate/CACIB/CAC/Green Star or three or more First Prizes at Open and Championship Shows (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy classes excepted, whether restricted or not). GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate/CACIB/CAC/Green Star or four or more First Prizes at Championship Shows in Graduate, Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, whether restricted or not where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed. POST GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate/CACIB/CAC/Green Star or five or more First Prizes at Championship Shows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, whether restricted or not where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed. OPEN For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at the Show. CHAMPION STAKES For dogs which have been confirmed a Champion or Show Champion under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. BRACE For two exhibits (either sex or mixed) of one breed belonging to the same exhibitor, each exhibit having been entered in some class other than Brace or Team. ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED For breeds dogs for which no separate breed classes are scheduled. IMPORTED BREED REGISTER For breeds confined to the Imported Breeds Register and only when an Interim Breed Standard has been published by the Kennel Club. Such breeds may be exhibited in this class only with the winning dog being eligible for Best in Group / Best Puppy in Group or Best in Show / Best Puppy in Show as relevant. GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME For dogs that have achieved their GCDS Bronze Award Certificate or above. A.V. WORKING GUNDOG Restricted to dogs who trained and work on local shoots. SPECIAL VETERAN (7 - 9 years) For dogs from seven to nine years of age on the first day of the Show. SPECIAL VETERAN (10+ years) For dogs of not less than ten years of age on the first day of the Show. THE BRENDA PHILLIPS MEMORIAL PUPPY STAKES For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. THE ALFRED FOWLE MEMORIAL OPEN STAKES For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at the Show. ADVISORY NOTICE NOT FOR COMPETITION Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies may accept such entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed.

EXERCISE AREA An Exercise Area will be provided. Exhibitors / Handlers are required to clear up any fouling by the dog(s) in their charge whether it be in the hall or outside.
