When we reach the point in the service for Antiphons and hymns, the ones for today's service are listed below and on the next page. Antiphons 1st Antiphon It is good to give praise unto the Lord, and to chant unto Thy name, O Most High. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. To proclaim in the morning Thy mercy, and Thy truth by night. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. Upright is the Lord our God, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us.

2nd Antiphon The Lord is King, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength and He hath girt Himself. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia! For He established the world which shall not be shaken. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia! Holiness becometh Thy house, O Lord, unto length of days. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia! Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. and “Only-begotten Son…” 3rd Antiphon– of the Resurrection (Tone 3)

The Daily Hymns Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 3) et the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad; for the Lord hath L done a mighty act with His own arm. He hath trampled down death by death and become the Firstborn from the dead. He hath delivered us from the depths of Hades, granting the world the Great Mercy.

Troparion of the Holy Fathers (Tone 8) ost glorified art thou, O Christ our God, who hast M established our holy Fathers as luminous stars upon the earth, and through them didst guide us all to the true Faith. O Most Merciful One, glory be to thee. Troparion of the Prophet Elias (Tone 4) he incarnate Angel and the Prophets summit and boast, the T forerunner of the second coming of Christ our God, Elias the glorious, from above sent down his grace upon Elisha; he doth cast out sickness and doth also cleanse lepers; and unto all that honour him, he poureth forth streams of cures. for Most Sundays (Tone 2) protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, O mediation unto the Creator most constant: O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned, but be thou quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee. Hasten to intercession, and speed thou to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Prokeimenon in Tone 8 (from Psalm 32): Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O ye righteous. Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. The Reading is from the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to Titus (3:8-15) itus, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, T so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

Alleluia Verses in Tone 4 (from Psalm 44) O God, we have heard with our ears. Thou hast saved us from those who afflict us.

The Holy Gospel — Matthew 5:14-19 he Lord said to his disciples, “You are the light of the world. A city set T on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. “Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

Sermon: Father David Barr Today’s Commemorations Prayers are requested for those on the St. Elias Prayer List: Rima Khoury, Ray Dufresne, Charles Lujan, Fr. Daniel Daly, Shamassy Laura Sanders, Ron Houston, Nader Jaber, Martha Dent, Adele Homsieh, Emily, Joseph Clint, Alexandra Wolf, Michael Shannon, and Pamela Ann Goins and her unborn child. Prayers are requested for our catechumens: Scott Batstone; ; Joshua Demerin; Matt, Lauren, Avery and Becket Jasinski; Evan Rees; Ruben Rodriguez; Raul, Ali, and Simon Scully; Cody Stack; and Joseph White. Departed remembered from the Parish Dyptichs: for the repose of Michael Mecey (†7/19/1998), and Aref Mike Droupy (†7/20/1973). These names come from the parish dyptichs—the record of those who have been buried from St. Elias. May their memory be eternal. At the Divine Liturgy during the Great Entrance, we normally commemorate only Orthodox Christians by name among the living and departed since this is the Church praying for the Church. Non-Orthodox are remembered liturgically in prayers at Vespers and other intercessory services of the Church.

On Receiving Holy in the Orthodox Church: Only Orthodox Christians who are prepared through prayer, fasting, and a recent sacramental confession should approach the Chalice for the Eucharist. The Orthodox Church does not practice “open communion” and has no intercommunion with other churches (non-Orthodox). If you have any questions concerning this, please talk to one of the priests before taking communion. And Remember… …to receive Holy Communion, one should be present at the Divine Liturgy no later than the time for the Epistle and Gospel readings. We feed both our minds and our hearts as part of the Orthodox Christian life. To feast on the Lord without listening to his words is disrespectful.

Did you know? Have you ever watched a movie or TV show and seen someone make the sign of the cross, and said, “Wow, that person is Orthodox!” How can you tell? When making the sign of the cross, an Orthodox Christian uses the right hand and touches the right, then left shoulder which is opposite from the Roman Catholics. We also hold our hand in a prescribed way: thumb and first two fingertips pressed together, last two fingers pressed down to the palm. Is this important and symbolic? Yes. The three fingers together indicate the Trinity; two fingers brought down to the palm indicate the two natures of Christ and his coming down to earth.

Pints and Insights Young adults are invited to join us this Monday (7/15/2019, 7pm) at Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches (3220 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723). These meetings are intended to give young professionals and students (21+) a space to foster genuine Christian camaraderie and conviviality, while learning how to navigate the increasingly complex contemporary world with the Church's perennial insights.
