I regret to announce that due to personal circumstances Nik Stanosheck is not able to continue in his roles as the Parish Council Treasurer and as a Parish Council member; he has submitted his formal res- ignation for both posts. However Nik remains as a member of the Parish and a great COUNCIL CAPSULE 2 friend. On behalf of the Parish Council I would like to thank Nik for his service this year! On a more cheerful note, I am happy to announce that Nancy Medvic accepted a nomina- NEW STEWARD- 4 tion to rejoin the Parish Council for the remainder of Nik’s term. Nancy also graciously accepted a nomination to the Office of Treasurer, and was also unanimously elected. He eventually made his way into Greece where he suffered martyrdom on a cross turned like an “X”. His cathedral and main relics are found in Patras. St James, son of Alphaeus, or St James the Less, we celebrate on October 9th. He is known as James the Less, not because he was unimportant, but to distinguish be- tween him and James the Greater, son of Zebedee and brother of St John who we will cover next week. He was likely the brother of St Matthew as he is also called the son of Alphaeus in the Gospel.

    SAINT LUKE THE EVANGELIST GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH july 6, 2014 fourth sunday of matthew aint Sisoes the Great (+ 429) was a solitary monk, pursuing asceticism in the Egyptian desert in a cave Ssanctified by the prayerful labors of his predecessor, St Anthony the Great (January 17). For his sixty years of labor in the desert, St Sisoes attained to sublime spiritual purity and he was granted the gift of won- derworking, so that by his prayers he once restored a dead child back to life. Extremely strict with himself, Abba Sisoes was very merciful and compassionate to others, and he re- ceived everyone with love. To those who visited him, the saint first of all always taught humility. When one of the monks asked how he might attain to a constant remembrance of God, St Sisoes remarked, “That is no great thing, my son, but it is a great thing to regard yourself as inferior to everyone else. This leads to the acquisition of humility.” Asked by the monks whether one year is sufficient for repentance if a brother sins, Abba Sisoes said, “I trust in the mercy of God that if such a man repents with all his heart, then God will accept his repentance in three days.” When St Sisoes lay upon his deathbed, the disciples surrounding the Elder saw that his face shone like the sun. They asked the dying man what he saw. Abba Sisoes replied that he saw St Anthony, the prophets, and the apostles. His face increased in brightness, and he spoke with someone.
