Player Center For the Arts will have its doors blown open by the guitar-heavy rock sound of Heart By Heart. The group features original members of Heart and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael Derosier, as well as vocalist Somar Macek, Lizzy Daymont on guitar and keyboards and legendary Seattle guitarist Randy Hansen. Fossen spoke with Gila Valley Central and made no bones about how they go about putting on a show. “We play the hits of Heart,” Fossen said. “We try to play as many hits as we can in the time allotted. We stick to the original arrangements – the original keys – and we try to play it as if you were attending a concert back in the 70s.” http://gilavalleycentral.net/heart-by-heart-ready-to-rock-cfa/ 2/5 11/13/2017 Heart By Heart ready to rock CFA | GilaValleyCentral.Net Contributed Photo: Original members of Heart, bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael Derosier, form the backbone for Heart By Heart. That means the place will be rockin’ with plenty of guitar-heavy hits, such as Barracuda, Crazy On You, Straight On, Magic Man and more. Fossen is a founding member of the group that eventually became Heart and has played professionally since the 1960s. “When you’re a young person and you just start off on your instrument, you just feel lucky to be able to make $5 when you play the sock hop at the high school,” Fossen said. “Life is a journey, and you just never know where it’s going to take you. I’m thrilled to be playing still in 2017. Your skills don’t really diminish, and my thrill for playing has not diminished at all. I have so much fun when I play that I can’t take the smile off my face.” Reserved pricing tickets are $15 and $25 and can be purchased online through the CFA here. “We’re just really happy to bring the hits of Heart back around as they were recorded back in the 70s,” Fossen said. “We love playing music and everybody in the band is enthusiastic about playing every night. So, yeah, we’re going to have a great time.” http://gilavalleycentral.net/heart-by-heart-ready-to-rock-cfa/ 3/5 11/13/2017 Heart By Heart ready to rock CFA | GilaValleyCentral.Net What: Heart By Heart Where: David M. Steve Fossen and Mike Derosier, the original bassist and drummer who were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Heart, have reformed as a new band, Heart by Heart, and they have recreated iconic hits such as Magic Man, Barracuda, Straight On, Even It Up, Crazy On You, Dog And Butterfly and Heartless. Heart By Heart will perform at Kean Stage's Wilkins Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. "Michael and I were heavily involved in the writing, recording and mixing process back then," said Fossen. "There's no other rhythm section out there that can play the music as faithfully to the recordings as we do. Seeing Mike play is a really big treat for anyone who appreciates good drummers." Heart by Heart also features vocalist Somar Macek as lead singer, along with guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Lizzy Daymont, and legendary Seattle guitarist Randy Hansen. They consider it their responsibility to bring the songs to the stage in their original form without updating or reworking them. "We're very lucky to have Somar and Lizzy," Fossen said. "They're very talented and they love the music.

  • Colocation Aware Content Sharing in Urban Transport
Colocation Aware Content Sharing in Urban Transport Liam James John McNamara A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of the University College London. Department of Computer Science January 2010 I, Liam James John McNamara confirm that the work presented in this thesis is my own. Where information has been derived from other sources, I confirm that this has been indicated in the thesis. i Abstract People living in urban areas spend a considerable amount of time on public transport. During these periods, opportunities for inter-personal networking present themselves, as many of us now carry electronic devices equipped with Bluetooth or other wireless capabilities. Using these devices, individuals can share content (e.g., music, news or video clips) with fellow travellers that happen to be on the same train or bus. Transferring media takes time; in order to maximise the chances of successfully completing interesting downloads, users should identify neighbours that possess desirable content and who will travel with them for long-enough periods. In this thesis, a peer-to-peer content distribution system for wireless devices is proposed, grounded on three main contributions: (1) a technique to predict colocation durations (2) a mechanism to exclude poorly performing peers and (3) a library advertisement protocol. The prediction scheme works on the observation that people have a high degree of regularity in their movements. Ensuring that content is accurately described and delivered is a challenge in open networks, requiring the use of a trust framework, to avoid devices that do not behave appro- priately.

  • Heart Provided an Example for Women Who Wanted to Rock Aggressively Without Sacrificing Their Femininity
PERFORMERS Heart provided an example for women who wanted to rock aggressively without sacrificing their femininity. _________________________________________ By Parke Paterbaugh -------------------------------------------------- ------------- he story of Heart would make a terrific film. Like many hugely successful rock groups, theirs is a classic tale of talent, struggle, perseverance, adversity, and tri- nmph. The twist that makes Heart’s biography unique is the fact that this band is frontedT by a pair of beautiful, determined sisters. A t their point of entry in the mid-seventies, Ann and Nancy Wilson found themselves swimming against the current of a male-dominated music business that was rife with bias and sexism. Through it all, the Wilson sisters never made an issue of their gender, or exploited it as some kind of novelty. Instead, they focused on Heart’s music, a beguiling play of light and shadows, power and delicacy, and acoustic and electric (or Dog Butterfly, to cite the title of a Heart album that explicitly played on that duality). A t its core are Ann’s soaring, power ful lead voice and Nancy’s unique, inventive guitar work, with the sisters also combining strengths as songwriters and harmony singers. The group’s remarkable success — twenty Top Forty hits, fourteen gold or platinum albums, and thirty-five million albums sold - helped kick down doors for female rock 6s? rollers. Heart provided an example for women who wanted to rock aggressively without sacrificing their femininity or being held back because of gender. It wasn’t an easy struggle: In the beginning, the sisters were condescendingly asked, “Are your guitars really plugged That was often the least o f it.
