John Lennon – Steel and Glass - Walls And Bridges ‘74 Much like “How Do You Sleep” three years earlier, this is another blistering Lennon track that sets its sights on Allen Klein (who had contributed lyrics to “How Do You Sleep” those few years before). The Beatles - Revolution 1 - The Beatles 2 The first song recorded during the sessions for the “White Album.” At the time of its recording, this slower version was the only version of John Lennon’s “Revolution,” and it carried that titled without a “1” or a “9” in the title. Recording began on May 30, 1968, and 18 takes were recorded. On the final take, the first with a lead vocal, the song continued past the 4 1/2 minute mark and went onto an extended jam. It would end at 10:17 with John shouting to the others and to the control room “OK, I’ve had enough!” The final six minutes were pure chaos with discordant instrumental jamming, plenty of feedback, percussive clicks (which are heard in the song’s introduction as well), and John repeatedly screaming “alright” and moaning along with his girlfriend, Yoko Ono. Ono also spoke random streams of consciousness on the track such as “if you become naked.” This bizarre six-minute section was clipped off the version of what would become “Revolution 1” to form the basis of “Revolution 9.” Yoko’s “naked” line appears in the released version of “Revolution 9” at 7:53. -

2018 Fall Olympics Events and Rules: Game 1: Flip Cup- 5 games • Teams of 4 line up across the table from each other. • Each player has approximately half a cup of beer. The amount should be the same for each player. • The goal is for each player to chug their drink and then flip their empty solo cup using the edge of the table so that it lands upside down. • Once a cup is successfully flipped, the next player will than need to drink their beer and then flip the cup. • This is a relay race so the first team to have all their beer finished and their cups flipped wins. • Winning of team receives 1 point for each of the 5 games. Winning team remains at their table, losing team rotates to next table over. Game 2: Dizzy Bat – 2 Games • 4 players on each team • There will be 2 players on each side of a 20 yard “field” • Side A: Person 1 will do 5 spins with bat, then chug their beer, then run to side B with bat in hand • Person 1 from side A will hand bat to person 2 on Side B who then does the same…. 5 spins w/ bat, chug, then run to Side A to person 3…. Individuals record videos of themselves while rapidly drinking excessive quantities of alcoholic drinks (necking) and then nominate friends to outdo them within 24 hours; the videos are then posted on social media such as Facebook or YouTube. The consequences of this drinking game have been very dangerous; at least 5 people under age 30 years have died after drinking deadly cocktails, and many others have suffered from alcohol intoxication. -

Hemingway's Mixed Drinks: an Examination of the Varied Representation of Alcohol Across the Author's Canon
OLIPHANT, ASHLEY YARBROUGH, Ph.D. Hemingway’s Mixed Drinks: An Examination of the Varied Representation of Alcohol Across the Author’s Canon. (2007) Directed by Dr. Scott Romine. 214 pp. The purpose of this research was to determine how alcohol functions in four main texts: The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea and In Our Time. Because of Ernest Hemingway’s self-perpetuated image as a literary celebrity, scholars have historically used his public persona (and their diagnoses of his perceived alcoholism and other medical conditions) to speculate about its impact on his work. This study establishes the importance of first addressing the textual evidence relating to Hemingway’s crafting of symbols, characters and plots before the biography of the author enters the critical conversation. The project defines and examines important terms relevant to Hemingway’s representation of alcohol, including “saturated” and “dry” fiction, “situational dryness,” “communal consumption” and “restorative drinking.” When applicable, Hemingway’s characters are viewed within the context of their Lost Generation existence to challenge the critical notion that the post-war experience for the author’s characters (particularly those who consume alcohol) is static from text to text. Hemingway’s drinkers are explored instead as individuals with varied impetuses for imbibing (whether in moderation or in excess), and his non- drinkers and occasional consumers are examined at length to provide a complete picture of the role of consumption across the four works. The data taken from these considerations leads to the conclusion that contrary to the critical consensus, Hemingway’s depiction of alcohol sometimes reverses the dichotomous relationships it has long been believed to support. -
