The awards were announced at the annual NAMMY Awards ceremony, held recently in Niagara Falls, NY. Levy and Spear wrote Out of Many We Are One with the hope of inspiring all Americans to find common ground. It was in that spirit that they were able to attract a group of notable musicians and producers to donate their talents to the project and help record and distribute the song worldwide. In addition to Levy and Spear, the team included Nammy and Grammy award winner Joseph FireCrow, Grammy winning cellist David Darling, engineer Tommy Skarupa, bass player Dave Anderson, and vocalists Bill Lauf, Rachel Rubin, Galen Brandt and Robert Brereton. The production and distribution of the song’s companion video and CD cover were donated by the teams at Movingpix.com, a Middletown based broadcast production company, DiBacco & Company Design studio in Avon, and In-House Marketing LLC, a Litchfield based marketing agency. The music and video for Out of Many We Are One are found at www.outofmanysong.com The Native American Music Awards, or NAMMYS, was founded and incorporated in 1998. It is a stirring event presenting music in genres ranging from blues to rock to pop to classical to traditional Native American songs and dances. USA Today says it is an event to “take seriously” and Indian Country Today has called it “awesome & incredible.” For more information about NAMA go to: www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com CSACSA SONGWRITINGSONGWRITING RETREATRETREAT RATES GO UP ON DECEMBER 1 What others have said: FAST-TRACKFAST-TRACKYOURYOUR "Life-Changing! " This key question from the Watergate era brought down a President. It can also bring down – or elevate – a song. Remember that the presentation of a song by a writer to a listener is a social interaction – a conversation of sorts. Like any communication, if the songwriter cares about his/her message, the goal of the interaction is to forge a connection between singer and listener, so that both are on the same wavelength with common understanding.

  • Narrative Representations of Gender and Genre Through Lyric, Music, Image, and Staging in Carrie Underwood’S Blown Away Tour
COUNTRY CULTURE AND CROSSOVER: Narrative Representations of Gender and Genre Through Lyric, Music, Image, and Staging in Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away Tour Krisandra Ivings A Thesis Presented In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the Degree Master of Arts in Music with Specialization in Women’s Studies University of Ottawa © Krisandra Ivings, Ottawa, Canada, 2016 Abstract This thesis examines the complex and multi-dimensional narratives presented in the work of mainstream female country artist Carrie Underwood, and how her blending of musical genres (pop, rock, and country) affects the narratives pertaining to gender and sexuality that are told through her musical texts. I interrogate the relationships between and among the domains of music, lyrics, images, and staging in Underwood’s live performances (Blown Away Tour: Live DVD) and related music videos in order to identify how these gendered narratives relate to genre, and more specifically, where these performances and videos adhere to, expand on, or break from country music tropes and traditions. Adopting an interlocking theoretical approach grounded in genre theory, gender theory, narrative theory in the context of popular music, and happiness theory, I examine how, as a female artist in the country music industry, Underwood uses genre-blending to construct complex gendered narratives in her musical texts. Ultimately, I find that in her Blown Away Tour: Live DVD, Underwood uses diverse narrative strategies, sometimes drawing on country tropes, to engage techniques and stylistic influences of several pop and rock styles, and in doing so explores the gender norms of those genres. ii Acknowledgements A great number of people have supported this thesis behind the scenes, whether financially, academically, or emotionally.

  • Issue 209 Music & Mornings Many Factors Determine the Amount of Music a Country Station Plays in Morning Drive
September 13, 2010 Issue 209 Music & Mornings Many factors determine the amount of music a Country station plays in morning drive. The competitive situation, spot load, caliber of air talent and even a change in morning shows are among them. Most recently, PPM ratings have led a number of programmers to increase the amount of music heard between 6-10am. For purposes of this week’s study, we looked at a variety of market situations to see how many songs were played in morning drive on a Wednesday for the last 12 months (excluding December 2009). As always, all airplay information comes from our friends at Mediabase 24/7. Stand Alone PPM Markets KKGO/Los Angeles has added a couple of songs per hour in the Medal Heads: “Not bad for an old radio guy!” says WGH-FM/AM/Norfolk last three months. It averaged about 12 songs between 6-9am up Dir. of Programming and Operations John Shomby.
