Hofmann, III ’61 ~ Big Red Awards Presented annually by the Alumni Association of the Lawrenceville School on behalf of the Lawrenceville School community, this award acknowledges and recognizes extraordinary volunteerism and/or service to the Lawrenceville Community. Candidates may be alumni, honorary class members, faculty and family, parents or school employees and family. This award may be recommended by the Nominating Committee of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association and voted upon by the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of The Lawrenceville School. Each year in the spring, the Alumni Selectors meet and choose a Lawrentian to join the Board of Trustees for a four-year term as Alumni Trustee. Two Selectors are elected each year by vote of all alumni to serve a three-year term. The ballot for this year was available online through the School’s website. The results of the election are announced at Alumni Weekend. Elected 2021, Term Expires 2024 Kevin Huang ’05 and Donna Rizzo ’04 Kevin Huang ’05 Donna Rizzo ’04 Kevin came to Lawrenceville as a Second Form Day Donna came to Lawrenceville from Jamaica, NY as student from Kendall Park, NJ. He lived in a Second Former. She lived in Cromwell and Kirby Davidson, Griswold and Upper. While at Houses, played volleyball and was active with the Lawrenceville, Kevin had many accomplishments: Alliance of Black Cultures and the Gospel Choir. he played four years of varsity tennis; was editor-in- Donna earned a B.A. in Communications Studies chief of the Olla Podrida; president of Model United from Vanderbilt University. She has worked for Nations; and business editor of The Lawrence. Donna now works in Customer Kevin is a former member of the Alumni Association Retention Marketing for Sirius XM + Pandora and Executive Committee and is a class agent and lives in New York City. She is a former president of reunion chair for his class. He lives in New York City The Lawrenceville Black Alumni Association and is with his wife, Ling. very active with her class. Harkness Award 2021 This award gratefully acknowledges the recipient’s distinguished classroom teaching and many contributions to The Lawrenceville School. The Harkness Award shall be presented to teachers who, upon retirement or leaving the School, have served for a substantial period of time and whose service to so many Lawrentians is worthy of special praise. Sahoko Okabayashi H’95 P’92 ’95 Term of service: 1995-2012 Sahoko joined The Lawrenceville School in 1995 to build the Japanese Language program. She taught four levels of Japanese language for 17 years. During this time, Sahoko founded a student exchange program with Doshisha International High School in Kyoto and the Keio High School in Tokyo; of the 150 students that participated in the program, more than 80 were Lawrentians. Sahoko also dedicated her summers to chaperoning School trips to Japan, and during the school year she advised the Japan Club, Anime Club, and served as head coach of senior golf. Sahoko also contributed to the Faculty Art Exhibit during her tenure. In 1967, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. Sahoko and her husband, Michio, live in Princeton, NJ. Their sons, Yusuke ’92 and Saisuke ’95, are Lawrentians. Sahoko retired in 2012. Harkness Award 2021 This award gratefully acknowledges the recipient’s distinguished classroom teaching and many contributions to The Lawrenceville School. Sandra Rabin H’01 ’08 P’00 Term of service: 1995-2012 Sandra came to Lawrenceville in 1995 and taught English and founded the Literary Journalism senior elective. She also chaperoned student trips to Saudi Arabia and to notable media outlets in New York, including Newsweek and the New York Times. Sandra also organized the annual Licht Lecture series during School Meeting and served as advisor to The Lawrence and Prize Papers, an annual publication of select English works by Fourth Formers. Students have described her passion for English as “incredibly contagious,” and her utilization of the Harkness teaching method helped her students listen to new ideas and opinions with open minds. Sandra earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and a master’s degree from Columbia University. Prior to Lawrenceville, she worked in the US Department of Agriculture’s press office, followed by a career as a producer and writer at the San Diego- based publishing firm Harcourt, Brace, and Jovanovich. Sandra is married to Michael and the couple’s daughter, Ashley ’00, is a Lawrentian. Sandra retired in 2012 to pursue her writing and to continue her education. Alumni Trustee 2021- 2025 A list of distinguished Alumni is nominated each year for review by the Selectors who pick one to be proposed as Alumni Trustee to serve a four-year term on The Lawrenceville School Board of Trustees. This individual demonstrates extensive service to the School through its various alumni programs. Porter Braswell ’07 Porter came to Lawrenceville from Scotch Plains NJ as a Third Former. He lived in Griswold and was a prefect there during his Fifth Form year. Porter was active with Harlem Renaissance and was a standout athlete, playing basketball and baseball. After Lawrenceville he went on to Yale, where he was a four- year starter on their basketball team and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government. Porter is co-founder and CEO of Jopwell, an HR tech platform that helps diverse students and professionals unlock opportunities for career advancement. Under Porter’s leadership, Jopwell has formed partnerships with more than 250 of America’s leading companies and has facilitated tens of thousands of connections between the Jopwell community and its clients. Porter's professional awards and recognitions include LinkedIn's 2015 “Next Wave, Top Professionals Under 35”, Inc. Magazine's 2016 “30 under 30”, Fast Company's 2017 Crain's 2018 “40 Under 40”, Vanity Fair's 2018 “Future Innovators Index”, Adweek's 2018 “Young Influentials”, and most recently Ernst & Young's “2020 Entrepreneur of the Year New York Winner." In early 2019, Porter released his book entitled “Let Them See You-The Guide for Leveraging Your Diversity at Work” published by Penguin Random House. He has recently launched a podcast for Harvard Business School – “Race at Work”, and serves on AARP’s Innovators Council.
