For the professionals Time is money; They charge fees by the minutes or hours Until they retire or expire or go crazy. To those sick, time is long suffering Wishing to be well soonest or die quickest; And when they got well, they forgot their previous pains Lapsing into sickness again due to poor discipline. Time cannot be purchased; Sooner or later, all must die And then, become memories Only memories. Time moves forward, not backwards; We have the choice in this short journey To enjoy or destroy To relish in grace or perish with disgrace. The beauty of time Is that we can reflect & retrospect From historical pasts of human successes with fragility; Avoiding their errors. Over time, all greedy & dishonest people Must pay their dues In jail, disgrace, poverty & sometimes insanity Sadly affecting many, especially their families. The data were collected from two groups of Jordanian EFL students, i.e. 30 tenth graders and 30 second year university students. Each group consists of 15 males and 15 females. The participants were given a questionnaire of 20 sentences which cover the regular rules for forming the comparative and the superlative forms using novel nonsense adjectives. According to the findings of the study, university students showed that they master the rules to some extent more than the tenth graders. The overall performance of both groups is better when it comes to monosyllabic adjectives; however, when adjectives are polysyllabic, students’ performance becomes worse. On the other hand, slight difference in favor of female was found in terms of students' gender. Key words: Jordanian EFL, comparative and superlative adjectives, female and male difference 1. Introduction English comparative and superlative adjectives formation are phonological processes that follow specific morphological rules which must be applied in order to form the correct adjective form. Comparatives are used to differentiate between two persons, objects, or places. In order to provide the correct comparative form, specific rules must be followed. First, if the adjective is monosyllabic, one adds (–er) at the end of the adjective, e.g. “small- smaller”. Second, if the monosyllabic adjective consists of a (consonant, vowel, and consonant) form, one must double the last consonant and add (-er), as in “fat-fatter”. Third, if the adjective ends with (-y), one needs to omit the (-y) and add (-ier), as in “funny-funnier”. Fourth, if the adjective is polysyllabic; consisting of more than two syllables; whether it ends with (-y) or not; one must add "more" before the adjective, as in “expensive- more expensive” and “satisfactory-more satisfactory”.

Mukundan, Anand, VaikomMuhammedBasheer, Sethu and PunathilKunhabdullah among many other eminent authors. The researcherhas selected the magnum opus fiction KhasakinteIthihasam (self-translated as The Legends of Khasak) written by O.V Vijayan to analyze the aspect of cultural representation in the post-independence Malayalam literature. Key Words: Colonialism, Post-colonial literature, Cultural representation, Modernism. Post-independence Malayalam literature became more realistic with the advent of modernism. But since Kerala culture is built through the legends of 'vadakkanpattukal' (ballads of the north), 'thekkanpattukal' (ballads of the south), 'pulluvarpattukal' (traditional songs of pulluvar community), 'Mappilapattukal' (traditional songs by the Islamic community) and such other 'pattu' school of poetry and the vast array of myths and legends that form the crux of Dravidian and Aryan ancestry, there could never be a total deviation. Colonialism left its deep imprint upon almost all wakes of Kerala history and literature was no exception.

    MODERNISM, POSTMODERNISM, CREATIVITY, AND COLONIALISM IN MALAYALAM LITERATURE M.G.S. Narayanan It has become fashionable among critics to indulge in the fireworks of modernist and post-modernist Jargon, obviously in a bid to perplex tile poor reader. The modernist and the post-modernist in the West invented then- new phraseology to convey something different from their existing tradition, some new experience related to social change in the twentieth century, following the two World Wars which shattered all values and banished all finer sentiments from life. They were the victims of then’ own enlightenment faith in progress, equality and peace. Then’ predicament was unenviable. This agony gave birth to cynicism about human nature and the future of civilization. Bookish Indian scholars who never went through the hell and horror of such European war-experience, but blindly aped their counterparts in the West, cut sorry figures in their comic roles as critics. Tile pretentious and hollow preaching shows the distance between them and the realities of life among the people. The artist, the poet, the fiction writer has to be an organic part of life in the society in which lie lives and moves, breaths and thinks, and shared the passion of human existence. Living in an ivory tower, or pretending to live there, is an act of snobbery in a fools’ paradise, - no, in a fools’ inferno, if there is one. In Kerala, fortunately for us, we had a bunch of writers who were steeped in tile passions, witch moved the people - poverty, betrayal in love, inequality, dishonesty, perversion, ambition, disillusionment and frustration.

    NATIONAL LITERATURE IN TRANSLATION Fragmented- Umashankar Joshi About the author: Umashankar joshi (1911-1988) is a Gujariti writer of prose fiction, poetry and drama, whose works display nationalist sentiments and social awareness as well as concern for the predicament of human life in society. His major works include Vasant Varsa, Gangotri and Pracina. Introduction : 'Fragmented' works with opposing ideas: of being fragmented and being whole, of love and hate, of memory and forgetfulness, of heat and coolness, and so on. The poet does not reach any definite conclusions, no solutions are provided for this state of affairs. Instead, the poem serves as a meditation on an individual's circumstances and in it can be read echoes of the fragmentary nature of the world itself. Summary :The poem has a circular structure: beginning and ending with the line 'I am fragmented'. The notion of being fragmented is one that is particular to the person as well as to the world of the poem. Throughout the poem, the fragmentation of the poet-persona is evoked through symbols, images and metaphors, each of which elaborates the idea and develops it further. For example, the first stanza has three images: of rhythm without metre; of a pattern upon a canvas and of breadcrumbs in a beggar's bowl. The image of the bread crumbs signifies that which is broken, redundant and of little use but which when added to that from several homes goes a little way towards assuaging someone's hunger. “I am fragmented-fallen apart- Like rhythm striving to throb in a poem without metre, Like a pattern trying to emerge upon man's life-canvas.

    CHAPTER 7 A Study of the Treaty of the First Tibet-Gorkha War of 1789 Yuri Komatsubara Introduction In 1788, the Gorkha kingdom of Nepal attacked the gTsang district of Tibet and the first Tibet-Gorkha war broke out. Although Tibet concluded a treaty with the Gorkha to end the war in 1789, it failed to pay the reparations to the Gorkhas stipulated in the treaty. Therefore, the Gorkha armies invaded Tibet again in 1791 and the second Tibet-Gorkha war commenced. On that occa- sion, the Qing court sent a large number of troops to attack the Gorkha armies and the war was over the next year. After these wars, the Qing established Article 29 of the imperial regulations for Tibet (欽定蔵内善後章程二十九条) in 1793. It is said that the Qing court became more influential in Tibetan poli- tics after these wars. That is, the first Tibet-Gorkha war provided an oppor- tunity for the Qing to change its political policies regarding Tibet. From the view point of the South Asian relationship, the Tibet-Gorkha war was the first confrontation between Tibet, Nepal and the Qing. In this way, the war was an important event between Tibet, Nepal and China. Nevertheless, the whole text of the treaty of the first Tibet-Gorkha war was unknown for a long time. Sato (1986: 584) noted that, at that time, the entire contents of the treaty of 1789 were completely unknown. Rose (1971: 42) pointed out that this treaty actually consisted of a number of a letters exchanged between the signatories, and that no single, authoritative text existed.

And Naya Nepal is moving towards a “federal, democratic, and republican” future. Concomitantly, a range of claims to local autonomy brings together local move- ments and global processes in novel ways. In fact, local place-making itself has been globalised. This dissertation asks what happens when the increasingly globalised production of places collides with a resilient national order of things in the Himalayan hills. It investigates movements for the establishment of a Limbuwan and Gorkhaland state on either side of the border between eastern Nepal and north-eastern India. Through the engagement with this area, the dissertation argues that we need to rethink the spatiality of government in order to understand the contemporary conditions for government as well as local autonomy. Across imperial landscapes, national territories and global place-making, the dis- sertation documents novel collisions between refashioned imperial differences and resilient national monopolies on political authority.
