Lake Shore Church is encouraging everyone to bring their own mask (we will have some available) and maintain social distance (6’-10’) from people outside your household. Make sure you bring a place to sit (chair, blanket, etc.) and maybe a way to keep the sun at bay— as natural shade on the Jefferson lawn is limited. We are so excited to be back to in person worship 18th Sunday after Pentecost—October 4, 2020 Order of Worship *Indicates standing for those who are able Gathering Music “We Are One In The Spirit” Welcome to Worship *Call to Worship Jesus has called us to this place to hear the word of the Lord. Jesus will send us from this place to bring good news to the world. Let us worship God. *Hymn “God of Grace and God of Glory” Hughes/Fosdick God of grace and God of glory, On Thy people pour Thy power; Crown Thine ancient church’s story; Bring its bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the facing of this hour, For the facing of this hour. Lo! The hosts of evil round us Scorn Thy Christ, assail Thy ways! From the fears that long have bound us Free our hearts to faith and praise. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the living of these days, For the living of these days. Cure Thy children’s waring madness, Bend our pride to Thy control; Sham our wanton, selfish gladness, Rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal, Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal. Se our feet on lofty places; Gird our lives that they may be Armored with all Christ like graces, Pledged to set all captives free. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, That we fail not them nor Thee! That we fail not them nor Thee! Save us from weak resignation To the evils we deplore; Let the gift of Thy salvation Be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, Serving Thee whom we adore, Serving Thee Whom we adore. Children’s Moment Pastor: We offer you a blessing. Adults: May the love of Jesus be with you. Kids: And also with you. Prayer of Confession Extravagant God, you invite us to your table in the kingdom of heaven. But we do not take our place at the feast. We say, “We have more important things to do,” and turn back to labors that threaten to consume us. Beckon us again, we pray, that we may respond with gratitude. In your mercy, gather us in that we might experience the joy of your kingdom and taste the abundance of your grace. Amen. Assurance of Forgiveness *Song of Assurance “This Is Amazing Grace” Verse 1 Who breaks the power of sin and darkness Whose love is mighty and so much stronger The King of Glory the King above all kings Verse 2 Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder The King of Glory the King above all kings Chorus (Yeah) (Oh) This is amazing grace This is unfailing love That You would take my place That You would bear my cross You laid down Your life That I would be set free Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me Verse 3 Who brings our chaos back into order Who makes the orphan a son and daughter The King of Glory the King of Glory Verse 4 Who rules the nations with truth and justice Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance The King of Glory the King above all kings (continued on the next page…..) A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and wel- comed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated any- body out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pen- etrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give ac- count. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then ap- proach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need Sermon “How Do We See Others?” Pastor Adam *Praise in Song “To The Table” Verse 1 Hear the voice of love that's calling There's a chair that waits for you And a friend who understands Everything you're going through Verse 2 But you keep standing at a distance In the shadows of your shame But there's a light of hope that's shining Won't you come and take your place Chorus 1 And bring it all to the table It's nothing He ain't seen before For all your sin all your sorrow And your sadness There's a Savior and He calls Bring it all to the table Verse 3 He can see the weight you carry The fears that hold your heart But through the cross you've been forgiven You're accepted as you are Chorus 2 So bring it all to the table It's nothing He ain't seen before For all your trials all your worries And your burdens There's a Savior and He calls Bring it all to the table Interlude Bring it all You can bring it all Bridge Come on in take your place There's no one who's turned away All you sinners all you saints Come right in and find your grace CCLI Song # 7055780 Jonathan Smith | Tony Wood | Zach Williams © 2015 Anthems of Hope (Admin. by Essential Music Publishing LLC) Be Essential Songs (Admin. by Essential Music Publishing LLC) Not Just Another Song Publishing (Admin. by Essential Music Publishing LLC) So Essential Tunes (Admin. by Essential Music Publishing LLC) Wisteria Drive (Admin. by Essential Music Publishing LLC) Curb Wordspring Music (Admin. by W.C.M.
