International Competition for LOGO of the Campaign
"Burgas - Candidate for European Capital of Culture 2019"
In 2008 Burgas Municipality announced its candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2019. In May 2012 the mayors of the thirteen municipalities of Burgas district signed a Memorandum of Partnership, with which they declared their willingness to support the candidacy of Burgas region with a leading role of the Municipality of Burgas. Currently a comprehensive cultural concept is to be developed and a campaign that will focus on the city and region of Burgas as a major European cultural center is to be launched.

The logo - subject of this competition, will be used for the purpose of the communication campaign, concerning the preparation of Burgas bid for European Capital of Culture in 2019, supported by the municipalities of Aytos, Kameno, Karnobat, Malko Tarnovo, Nessebar, Pomorie, Primorsko, Ruen, Sredets, Sozopol, Sungurlare, Tsarevo.
The logo should interpret the authentic meaning of the concept for European Capital of Culture, and at the same time it should reflect the specifics of the spirit and culture of Burgas and the region. The logo should reflect the overall vision for the development of Burgas as a modern European region, attractive cultural and tourist destination, a place of tradition and innovation, creativity and development.
The logo will be the symbol of the whole initiative and of any of the events, related to the European Capital of Culture.
Requirements to the logo
Ø The logo should be suitable for both static print and electronic interpretation, as well as have potential for kinetic interpretation.
Ø The logo should be suitable for use both in small and large size
Ø The logo should contain the following text: БУРГАС - КАНДИДАТ ЗА ЕВРОПЕЙСКА СТОЛИЦА НА КУЛТУРАТА 2019 and an English version: BURGAS - CANDIDATE FOR 2019 EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE
Ø The logo should be developed and presented in format JPG as well as in vector format (EPS, AI, CDR, PDF)
Requirements to the participants in the contest
Ø The participants can submit up to 3 projects of logo
Ø Every project has to be developed especially for the sake of the contest
Ø Together with their projects authors should also provide:

Signed declaration for the authorship of the project (free text)
The deadline for submitting the projects is: 31st of October 2012
Proposals should be submitted by e-mail to [email protected]
or on an electronic device at the Press center of Burgas Municipality on 26 Aleksandrovska Street, 1st floor
Evaluation and Ranking
Evaluation and ranking of the submitted projects will be done as follows:
First stage
Evaluation of the projects by an international expert jury, consisting of:
- a graphic designer
- an artist
- a designer/artist from the EU member-state, different from Bulgaria
- a representative of the NGO sector
- a representative of Culture, Marketing & PR Dept. at Burgas Municipality - a representative of municipalities of Burgas district
The jury will shortlist the best 3 to 5 logos /according to the number of projects submitted/
Second stage
The audience will vote and select one of the logos, shortlisted by the jury.
Third stage
Announcement of the winning logo
Opening of Exhibition with all proposed logos
Award
Burgas Municipality will invite the author, whose project was ranked first
a contract for the purchase of copyrights for the sum of BGN 2,000.
